Every year, the Islands of Solta and Brac come together to settle an ancient feud, by fighting for the small island of Mrduja in a fierce tug-of-war battle. This centuries-long dispute between the Dalmatian Islands of Brač and Šolta is over the small island of Mrduja that sits in the middle of these two larger islands. Residents of each island have been arguing for hundreds of years about who Mrduja belongs to, which created the idea of a 'tug-of-war' to see who the island belongs to each year! Annually, fishermen, sailors and residents from each island gather to take part in the tugging of Mrduja. The event involves celebrations, food, drinks, and of course, bragging rights for the winner! Local Stories is a YouTube Series featuring local events, traditions, places, and people from all over Croatia!

This is where the Anambas sailing adventure relaxes into dreamy cruiser sailboat living... being alone in paradise... Tropical island paradise? ☑ Sharks? ☑ Turtles? ☑ Healthy coral? ☑ Operculum? ☑ Brilliant reef fish? ☑ Nothing but the sound of nature? ☑ A beach covered in clam shells, fossils and hermit crabs? ☑ When Liz drops a line over our sailboat to catch supper for Millie the sailing cat we discover that we are not alone, someone has been hitching a ride for the past few weeks all over the Anambas! So what is a remora? But even in the midst of this incredible place, liveaboard sailing can still go wrong: Jamie's down to his last slab of beer ...or two... Don't forget to follow the boat! We really like Colombia and didn’t want to go back to Santa Marta already so we headed inland to the city of eternal spring, Medellín. It's the second biggest city in Colombia and we explore the hills and neighborhoods of this cool city and learn more about its violent history. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. WANT MORE? In this episode we are trying to sail from Pisa Italy to Barcelona Spain but the storm catches up with us and we have to change course to Montpellier and end up 3 days at sea. Spending some time on the water and nothing around does something with the human brain. People get time to think and get emotional. Then we also catch some tuna and have an awesome diner :) And offcourse fully testing the potentials of the seahorse 2.0 and reaching speeds over 8 knots already!! Check out this long episode off Heading South and get to see what it is like to spend some time at sea :)

After a tense night anchored on a lee shore we up'd anchor and sailed to Gaios. There we found a quaint village, went for beautiful walks in the olive groves and even got the bikes out. We thought we'd found treasure on the sea bed (which would have paid for the extortionate mooring fees!) but it turned out to be just a bag of shells. TRANSCRIPT: The Beaufort scale tonight is a force 9. It's 55 miles per hour winds. Okay it's 4 o'clock in the morning. I think we're through the worst of it now. One of the buildings I was using as a transit switch its lights out at about half past three which completely confused me so I had a bit of a panic. The anchor chain seems to have held The wind's changed direction a bit so the swell's not so bad. So I think we're gonna be all right. So I think a cup of tea and get my sleeping bag. I'll stay on deck for now. Might as well see the rest of the night out on deck. Everybody sleep alright last night? No! It was really stormy and I could hear the wave.. really big waves splashing on my cabin. So the next day the weather calmed a bit so he could go around the corner and we went into a little inlet called Gaios on the same island of Paxos. It's really pretty. We went stern to. We had a few problems getting the anchor down and we had to sort of do it again because it wasn't holding again. We were really relieved we didn't go there the night before because it wouldn't have been good the night before; it was better to stay where we were. But it was a lovely town and we got the bikes out. My oldest daughter went cycling with dad. We've come to a new place and we're looking around to see if there are any good shops or cafes. And now we're going along the sea because over there is a dead end and a place where the ferries come in and out. And it's quite a nice path.. like a winding path. It was a really nice place to stay for a few days. We went for a walk in the olive groves right to the top of the hill and the kids loved that. We just talk as we do it; it was good to get our legs working and good to spend time with them. Yeah we even found a handbag at the bottom of the sea so my middle son dove down to try and retrieve it and we couldn't wait to see what was inside - we thought there might be some money and some treasure but when we opened it up it turned out that was just a whole bunch of shells. The other thing about that place in Gaios - it was a town quay so we we only really expected to pay about 10 euros but the authorities came around and we got charged about 35 euros. It was really expensive and it's not something we can afford to pay every night because we're on a budget. Yeah we're leaving Paxos and going to Parga again. Paxos was really quaint. There were lovely squares and little alleyways we are cycling down. We had a few traumas like the washing machine flooded the boat. Right just got the washing machine going and oh yeah and our anchor wouldn't bike as well - that was pretty bad - and we got charged loads of money it was like 35 euros for one night which we can't afford to pay that. So luckily she didn't come round the next night so we've got two nights for 35 euros which was a bit better. So we had a lovely walk up the hill and a lovely two days actually - two days of good home schooling as well kids have really enjoyed it haven't you kids? No! We're going to Parga which is over there somewhere. The kids are more confident on the boat - they want to move around the boat a bit more so we've kind of got the lifejackets out and the lifelines so they can clip on they can move about the boat quite comfortably. As we've been going along I've been trying to fix the kiddie netting on which just makes it extra safe really on the boat. We're still trying to work out what safety measures we're gonna use really. Yeah that's probably a whole blog in itself. When we anchor down we've got dinghy that gets us to shore and back and the dinghy has been repaired. There was quite a few things wrong with it. Some of those things repair but not everything could be repaired so it still leaks quite a bit; we have to keep pumping it out. It's not the most reliable dinghy at the moment - it'll be nice one day maybe to replace it. After cruising around 6 Canary Islands, it was time to stroll around Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Galopin was moored at Marina Santa Cruz which at the city's feet. It felt great to walk the streets, the parks of the city. Seb loved it but had to get back to Switzerland, back to making music. Hi Everyone, Some great 356 content today! While browsing the Porsche 356 Registry, I found out that our 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet should have clear Cad plated valve covers 😉 Eva’s were looking awful and had been painted black at some point in the past so I was talking with Joe Leoni over dinner and he graciously offered to add them to his latest batch of generator parts to get plated. That sounded like a great opportunity to introduce Joe to those who may not know of him or his literature and restoration services. Joe has been a leader in documenting all the ins and outs and all the quirks with the 356 electrical systems as well as complete concours restorations for all electrical parts (generators, voltage regulators, etc.). He also manufactures relay kits for the headlights and starter switch/solenoid. You can find Joe’s schematics and relay kits on Bill Block’s website: http://blocks-books.com/BLOCKS-BOOKS/356Electrics.html • Starter Relay • Headlamp Relay • 356 Pre-A ’53 Schematics • 356 Pre-A ’55 Schematics • 356 A Schematics • 356 T5-B Schematics • 356 T6-B/C Schematics • 356 – All Cars Schematics ONLY In addition to all this, Joe also does full restoration services for Generators and Voltage Regulators. If you need something done, just shoot me an email (the link is in our “About” page) and I will forward your email on to Joe! • 356/912 Generator Repair/Restoration • 356 Voltage Regulator Repair/ Restoration, and current limiting Oh, I apologize for the sound ☹ There was some very strong interference which I worked on quite a bit to reduce. Unfortunately it makes it sound a little as if it was recorded underwater… I hope you can still hear Joe well enough. We hope you enjoyed the video. If you did, please give it a “Thumbs up” and Subscribe to Heidi and Franny’s Garage for more videos to come.
