In this video, Deep Winter Prep, I get the Exterior Bat Ready for Winter Liveaboard, It's Finally time to start preparing Sailing Vessel Balachandra for my first cold Canadian winter in the North Atlantic. In this episode I remove the sails, build a framework and apply shrink wrap. I even show you how to put up Christmas Lights! If you like my videos, please SUBSCRIBE to see more, and be sure to give this video a like, Thanks! In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is my YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and the occasional crewmembers(s) as we navigate the east coast of North America and beyond. I also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard in a cold climate. PART 1 of a 2 part series - Sailing With A Heart ! In this series, Guy Kane the flying vet lands his sea plane and we tie it off behind Impi before setting off to evaluate Moose the abandoned island dog. You may have heard of the ABANDONED ISLAND DOG called MOOSE! Impi is sailing around the world and New Caledonia has become our most 'returned to country', not only for its beauty and amazing friendships forged, but also largely because of one abandoned island dog called Moose (Mouss). We did a video of our discovery of Moose after friends Carolin and Rob from New Zealand told us about him - you can see that video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzBDS... He hunts for food - he survives - see him in the sequel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4dYi... We sailed from New Zealand back to New Caledonia - that passage can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KW_O... we then sailed back for a 2nd season to find Moose really struggling for survival after getting 'heart worm'. We appealed to our YouTube community to help and this partly financed a Flying Vet called Guy Kane to fly in treat him. That video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9hk7... Our 3rd season is what this video is all about - and as with all living things we eventually become old and Moose is no exception to the rule. The dilemma we now face is to discover when the appropriate time would be to remove Moose from his island and persuade the authorities to allow him to be moved to a land based home. We have debated this issue with some authorities here in New Caledonia and were advised that after numerous attempts to remove Moose from his island - they eventually decided to leave him there because he displayed such an unwillingness to go! Now we have engaged Guy Kane, the flying vet who regularly treats Moose against pain to ask for his opinion. We hope this movie will mean something to you all - Moose certainly is a very unique and special dog and considering his future really is one that tugs on our heartstrings. Folks - Impi is engaged in as many 'care projects' as possible. We therefore kindly ask for you to subscribe to our channel so we are taken more seriously when it comes to our care projects. We are not a couple who search for numbers for 'a pat on the back' - we do not earn one cent from our social media platform - every cent goes into welfare. DOWN UNDER RALLY GROUP: Speaking of welfare, we would ask all sailors sailing between New Caledonia and Australia to please consider joining the Down Under Rally Group (John and Leanne Hembrow) - for every yacht that sails in their rally, they make a small donation to our animal welfare program and every cent helps.

We started the voyage back home from Uki and we were choosing next stop between already familiar cottage in Kustavi or Laura Peterzens harbor in Parattula, also in Kustavi. On the way we suddenly found S/Y Diana from the middle of the Mist that made our voyage little bit exciting.
I make my way to Las Palmas to link up with A Sailing Adventure as we prep the yacht for her transatlantic voyage..
Bem vindos a bordo !!! Bandeira branca no mar !!! 🏳️🏳️🏳️ Boa semana e aproveitem a vida do jeito que lhe convém !!!! bons ventos 🌬⛵️🛥 Apoie nosso canal: https://www.patreon.com/sailingaroundtheworld https://apoia.se/sailingaroundtheworld ********** Pagina no Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/sailingaw/ ********** Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thaiscanado/ https://www.instagram.com/google_golden/ https://www.instagram.com/SailingAW/ Abraços e Bons Ventos! Whether you are short handed and trying to get a man back on board your boat in local waters or fully crewed trying to get a man back on board an ocean racer in the Southern ocean it will be easier if he has a MOB Lifesaver fitted to his lifejacket. With a Lifesaver he has the means of retrieval back on board stowed within his own lifejacket. We don't go down to him, he comes up to us. The video gives the Full Story on Lifesavers and includes the MOB retrieval rig that we use on our Hallberg Rassy 352. Plus information on retrieving MOBs to motorboats.
This week the painting of the hull continues. The second color gets added and you get a sneak peek of it (although the boat is still masked off for painting) We see some progress on the mast being set up to accept our hardware and we make a trip to the sail loft to get new slugs put on the sail for the inbound sail track on the mizzen. We also get a quote for re-fiberglassing the decks. We have removed the old teak decks, we have repaired a lot of core that needed it and now it is a matter of giving it a few new layers of skin to reduce possible leaks in the 7000 screw holes from the teak decks. Join us on our journey as we continue to rebuild, refit and prepare our Formosa 51 Sailboat for our continued cruising journey. We have always loved the Formosa, bought one (on a bit of a whim) late in 2014, moved aboard this one right away and started to do our refit while living board. We are avid fans of Cruising Outpost and Good Ole Boat (Good Old Boat) magazines and love the ideas we get from them.
