Hi Everyone! This is our oil change video for a 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera 4S!. It is the “complete” process including Pulling the fuel pump fuse, pre-filling the filter cup, cutting open the filter element for inspection and also a bit about using Blackstone Laboratories for oil analysis. I'll post the results as soon as I get them from Blackstone. That makes for a lot of steps! It is pretty straight forward and should take less than an hour depending on the steps you preform. I believe this also applies to the 996, 997, and 987 1998 through 2008. Not sure of the 987.2 2009 cars. The 986 and 987 Boxster and Cayman are similar, just the engine is in a different spot 😉. *** UPDATE: I got a message from a very knowledgeable viewer who mentioned the oil level is best checked warm as the oil will expand and it reduces the risk of over-filling. In addition to that, it is best to shoot for one notch from the top and not the top mark on the E-Gauge. I also did some research and for the 997.1, the oil check system tries to take into account the temperature and will control when it will display the oil level. For the 997.2, the oil is checked hot. If you have a question or comment (or if I left anything out), please leave it below. Always consult your Owner’s Manual/Shop Manual to verify all steps and values. The following steps are optional: • Prefilling the oil filter housing half way with oil. • Blackstone Laboratories oil test. • Pulling the fuel pump fuse. We hit a Brown Booby fishing streak sailing in the Northern Sea of Cortez, which requires lots of booby rescues, creative deterrent methods and rehabilitation for these cute sea birds. We sail into our first port on mainland Mexico and anchor with the shrimp fleet at Kino, do some awesome sailing, and get our last taste of the islands for a while as we make our way down to Guaymas to haul out and begin some routine maintenance. In this episode we attempt to set off from Menorca with the aim to catch the front of the Mistral that was due to blow that day. However, we epically fail and end up motoring the entire way to Mallorca. Even seasoned helmsmen can't get it right sometimes!! Sorry Addy... Once there however, all is forgotten as we stop in at Port de Pollenca to watch the mighty All Blacks game and then head up and around the northern tip, known as Cap Formentor. The weather is starting to turn as we see clouds roll in, which adds to the mysterious, dinosaur-park-like landscape that is the NW coast of Mallorca. More of an adventure coast than a cruising coast, this rugged coastline has only a few anchorages, many of which provide protection from sweet nothing. But you put up with the rolling because your backdrop is just out of this world incredible. Getting on land is an absolute MUST! Although it may seem like we took the robbery in stride, it definitely felt awful losing so many things that we still need in our lives. Luckily, we had our camera gear (outside of the brand new drone) insured so we didn't lose the most important items in our lives. At the end of the day, all of these things are just stuff and replaceable. We refuse to let the person who stole our things steal beyond that, like our peace of mind and have us be frustrated by something we had zero control over. We've both spent a lot of time finding other ways to make side income without taking up too much of our time and will hopefully be adding some more $ to our depleted cruising kitty in the coming months to buy back some of the things we lost. We go home, we stay 3 weeks, then we go back to Sandflea. That's the jist. Let's see, what else? Oh, Tambi drives a car for the first time in over a year. It was terrifying. She did alright though. Once the gravel stopped flying, and we tightened our seat belts to the point of maximum tension, things settled down. It was funny because we felt like we were FLYING, even though we were doing 35 in a 55mph zone. This was a tough period of time to be away from the boat. Prior to this trip, we've not been away from the Sandflea for more than a few hours at a time. It's stressful, and there are so many bad things that can happen while your away. It's just part of the life though, and something we'll have to get used to. So after our 3 weeks back home, we return to the boat to see how she faired after being all by her lonesome. Hopefully there aren't cockroaches, spiders, mold, and who knows what else on the inside. Thanks for watching!!
