Tina Plattner, Ed Baird and the crew of 2018 52 SUPER SERIES debutants Phoenix have given themselves a fighting chance of winning the second circuit regatta of the season after delivering another consistent, low scoring day at the Zadar Royal Cup in Croatia. If she could steer the new generation Botin design to overall victory and leave closest rivals Platoon and Luna Rossa in the shade, she would mark a hatful of ‘firsts’, including being the first female helm ever to win a TP52 circuit regatta and the first helm to triumph at their first ever 52 SUPER SERIES regatta as well as being the first ever South African team to win on the world’s leading grand prix circuit. Building a cruising sailboat Well, the planking is finished and now it's all about preparing the hull for the glass and epoxy sheathing. In this video, I describe how I've gone about that - radiusing the chine, cladding the stem to cover the end grain of the ply sheets, Putting bronze screws in the stem and stern post, and routing grooves in the board joints to ensure a smooth transition from board to board. There's a kind of tool tip towards the end - perhaps the most essential of all tools!! Music tracks "Sit and Wonder" and "The Great Divide" available on iTunes, Amazon etc. EP "Shake a Leg" and album "Out of the Moloch" All music from these videos is available from: https://ynotb.bandcamp.com/album/the-sv-tapatya-tracks If you like what you see, leave a tip in the Tips Jar ;http://www.svtapatya.com/the-tips-jar.html Follow the build, along with the story of my first cruising adventure (The Miss Molly I Adventures) on my website; http://www.svtapatya.com Support the build, the vlog, the blog and the writing on; https://www.patreon.com/sv_tapatya Or follow me on Instagram for various shots of my boating life; https://www.instagram.com/sv.tapatya This is the story of my building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk-rigged, schooner dory. The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. Boat building with plywood is a relatively easy and cost-effective way to produce a strong, monocoque-style boat hull. These videos aim to show the way in which I go about it. Thank you! Tony

Exploring inland Turkey and its many world heritage sights is an incredible experience. We know a lot of people who have avoided Turkey because of its current political situation but we have found it to be a completely safe and hospitable place, in fact we really feel for the many, many family run businesses that are suffering from the lack of visitors now. Turkey is not only stunning it is also amazingly affordable - come see what our road trip was like and maybe you will want to visit too! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.

In this episode, Breaking Her In: Our First Sail of the Season, We rock the swimwear, put up the sails then leave on a 2 day 60 Nautical Mile journey from Halifax to Sambro rounding Chebucto Head reaching 10 to 15 foot ocean swells, becoming sea sick, and putting into a mooring for the night. The next day we retrace our steps with an amazing and beautiful downwind sail in calm waters and a safe return. The diver who paid us a visit was the Sambro Port Authority doing routine checks of all the moorings in the area. In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is my YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and the occasional crewmembers(s) as we navigate the east coast of North America and beyond. We have had a blast exploring Thunderball Grotto and Staniel Cay for the past couple of days, but it is time to move on further south in the Exumas. Today we are pulling up anchor and sailing south along Great Guana Cay and are going to anchor at White Point. From looking at the charts it looks like it will be a good anchorage with long beaches to explore. The sailing today was fantastic! There were lots of other boats coming and going and Randall even tried to playfully race one of them. Once we got to White Point and got anchored, we went ashore to walk around a bit. Randall loves to swim from the boat to the beach as often as he can, and this anchorage was a perfect place to it. The beach there were absolutely beautiful to see and walk on. We climbed up a little hill and found that we could easily get to the long white beach on the other side. The view from the top was incredible to see! The next day we woke up to beautiful weather with a nice gentle breeze, perfect for flying the drone. Kenzie took the dinghy to the beach with the drone so we could get some epic shots of Turtle sailing at this incredible anchorage! We are so happy with the footage we got and are so glad that we get to share it with so many people! Later that same day we moved to another spot along Great Guana Cay and hiked to the other side of the island, but that will be in the next video, so stay tuned! *********************************************************************** THANK YOU for watching our videos and for SUBSCRIBING to our YouTube channel! In the last blog we left Woody to look after the boat in the Aegina and get on with maintenance work while we returned to England for a few weeks. It's great the kids are curious and want to learn about maintenance work on the boat, but obviously it slows things down a bit. So with the family out of the way Woody was able to work his way through the jobs list (we had a massive list to get through before we continued on from Aegina!) Before we left the UK he bought a load of cordless tools from Powertoolworld - a grinder, jigsaw, and drill so he's able to save so much money making and repairing things on the boat. We got the generator sorted out when we arrived but there was still the engine to paint, bilge pipes and strum boxes to sort out and the pre-filter of the water maker to rebuild. The grey water tank in the Amel is quite unique in that it's housed in the keel and all waste water drains into this bilge 'tank' so it's an important part of the boat to keep clean and maintain properly, so both automatic and manual bilge pipes were replaced. The pre filter for the watermaker was quite corroded and although we'd ordered most parts from the UK we still had to source bits locally on Aegina (which was easier said than done with strikes and strange opening hours!). Woody used to make industrial style furniture in the UK: https://www.ratandpallet.com/ so luckily he was used to working with pipes and fittings. We still haven't got around to fully servicing in the watermaker yet but that'll be on the next job list. We'd noticed that the kids really enjoy watching the dolphins and other wildlife from the bow of the boat and occasionally enjoy the personal space there. But at the moment we've just got a pulpit framework to sit on, so Woody set too and designed and made a cool bow seat for the front of the boat too. Mooring in the Mediterranean - particularly Greece - is mainly stern to parking, which means dropping an anchor three to five boat lengths out, reversing into the quayside and attaching stern lines to the dock. It sounds easy enough but crosswinds, prop walk and crossed anchors (and lack of experience) can turn it into an entertaining spectacle. When Woody and I were flotilla skippers in Greece we used to raft up all the time, which is fine as long as you've got everybody's consent and someone to coordinate it. But when boats just turn up and decide they're going to raft up without anybody's consent and no coordination, then it leads to a whole new level of chaos, as Woody experienced when Ukrainian business flotilla turned up and literally gave him sleepless nights! Two weeks went by quickly and Woody headed to Athens to meet us off the plane. Fortunately we have friends in Athens - Aurie and Mariela - who let us crash in their Athens apartment which meant we had time to visit the Parthenon! The Acropolis Museum is build on top the ruins of ancient Athens and is a great place to visit. However, the Acropolis and especially the Parthenon was very busy, like a lot of honey pot tourist attractions in Greece. We took pictures of #legoericka - a lego toy we were given by our author friend Ericka Waller to take around the world and visit all the places she can't because of her auto-immune disorder. Our daughter gave us a Greek mythology lesson about the foundation of Athens and Athena while our youngest regretted it wasn't named after his favourite Greek god - Poseidon. After visiting the Parthenon we headed back to Aegina but there's always drama in our life and on this occasion a woman was rescued by our ferry in the middle of the sea! You can see the full footage from this incident on the link: https://youtu.be/PTOZrIogdhs Back in Aegina the kids earned money for their ice-cream budget by busking which was a win-win, as it meant they put in lots of music practice too! After reinstalling our VHF and AIS transceiver following an MMSI update we paid our fees and did a final shop. Our youngest was particularly keen to stock up on strawberries and cherries so we bought some from a local fruit and veg boat, cleaned the bugs off them and raised our new British ensign. Finally it was ready to throw off the lines and leave the dock once again - heading for Poros and the Cyclades Islands. I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners. Built by an experienced long-range cruiser as a platform to explore rarely visited locations for SCUBA diving adventures, KOKOMO provides an outstanding opportunity for a cruising couple to set sail in any direction to see our world by water. The seller is a SCUBA pioneer who previously owned a Nordhavn 55 (Starfish) and after selling her a few years ago contacted Jeff Merrill (who was then working with PAE/Nordhavn) to inquire about building the new aft pilothouse design created using the most popular hull Nordhavn has ever developed. They spent several weeks working through the details to create the particulars for this exceptional yacht. KOKOMO's aft pilothouse profile is a tribute to her genealogic predecessor, the iconic Nordhavn 62. Benefiting from the knowledge of millions of offshore miles the time tested Nordhavn philosophy has once again proven exceptional with the Nordhavn 63 model incredibly popular. More than twenty hulls have been delivered or on order as of this video publishing date in June 2018. This JMYS TrawlerVision walk-through video shows KOKOMO displayed on the hard filmed in Stuart, FL and includes both a tour of the interior and deck areas aboard, as well as a rare review of the underwater hull features. KOKOMO is a 2015 model year with 15,000 miles under her keel. Well maintained with extensive records detailing her service history. KOKOMO is proven, beautifully outfitted and ready to head back out to sea. There is much, much more. #JMYS, #Nordhavn63, #TalkThroughTour, #Trawlers Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jeffmerrillyachtsales/?fref=nf Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/merrillyachts Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jmystrawlers/ Offered by Jeff Merrill Yacht Sales, Inc. In questo terzo video vi mostriamo come abbiamo installato il nostro caricabatterie e come lo abbiamo collegato all'impianto 12 v della barca. Have you ever wondered how to make your brightwork shine, like you see on those showboat magazines? Do you want to know how to varnish like the pros, or better yet, make it look 95% with 65% of that effort? This weeks episode is about 2 things we are doing on the boat that leads to a lesson of how to varnish. We are sanding down the walls of the Salon and the coach house is getting new paint. With that, it is getting close to time to install all the trim, handrails, hatch frames and other teak accessories that will keep our classic sailboat looking classic. So sit back and enjoy this how-to video on varnishing tips and tricks. How to varnish a boat, how to restore your teak or other hardwoods, how to make wood look like glass and a little discovery about a GREAT stainless steel polish. We also cover a great product that we tested on polishing the stainless steel handrail mounts from an old cruise ship in Indonesia. My words of guidance for folks are don't always look for new materials for your boat. Sometimes you can find great things that are recycled from other ships or boats and help to make yours even more nautical. That is what we thought when we found these stairwell handrails that came off of a cruise ship that had been decommissioned and sold for scrap in Indonesia. We saw them and thought that with a very slight bit of work, protection, and creativity, they would become the handrails that you can use when walking down the side decks of the boat from the cockpit to the deck. They will mount on the roof of the coach house just below waist high.
