This week we get a few more small projects done on the boat and at the boat yard. we are getting very close to sailing her home and I am heading to the boat every morning to knock some things off the list. We paint another part of the bilge as well and get floor boards back down in the sole. We can finally walk down in the boat without needing the poise and balance of an acrobat. We also raise the inner stays'l and do a little slip sailing. This is the first time since we have owned this boat that this sail has even had the cover off. Slip Sailing, Painting the bilge, how to paint a bilge, what paint to use in bilge, self tacking jib, inner stay sail, inner stays'l, new floor, sole, small jobs, how to fix a boat, how to refit, how to sail Don't forget to like and share this video Please check out our other videos as well and click on the playlist below for a couple we think you may enjoy. Full article is available in Multihulls World #163: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/catana-53-is-this-range-setting-new-standards The Catana 53 marked the great comeback of this iconic brand into the world of high-performance cruising; so much so that all the other models have now disappeared from the catalog, with the exception of the all-new Ocean Class, of course... The nacelle of the 53 extends a little longer than the “traditional” models, offering a more floor area and a modular saloon/cockpit connection. The hulls remain fairly narrow; the anti-leeway plan comprises curved appendages. Ultimately, excellent performance for such a comfortable and versatile boat. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Catana Length: 16.15 m (53’) Beam: 8.65 m (28’5”) Light displacement: 14,500 kg (31,965 lbs) Draft: 1.48 / 3 m (4’10” / 9’10”) Mainsail area: 100 m² (1,076 sq ft) Genoa: 65 m² (700 sq ft) Engines: 2 x 60 HP Fuel: 227 US gal (860 l) Water: 211 US gal (800 l) Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! Les coques restent assez fines ; le plan anti-dérive est quant à lui confié à des appendices courbes. Au final, des performances excellentes pour une unité aussi confortable et polyvalente. One of the steering cables snapped! On a Gemini catamaran, this is a big problem! So, Duke spent the morning at anchor in Cape May Harbor putting together a temporary solution using random materials found on the boat. Macgyver would have been proud! It did break again out in the ocean, but the second fix done at anchor in Atlantic City was way better, and lasted ALL SUMMER! This is extended footage and details about the emergency steering fix Duke put together spanning Episodes 12 and 13. Its a Friday, lovely weather for the time of year and Izzy has finshed school. So along with her best freind we all jump into the Wayfarer and go adventuring up river, to see what we can find. We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. A big thank you to everyone that has already done this, its a great help. https://www.paypal.me/TheFoxwellFamily And a big thank you to everyone that has supported us so far, its very much appreciated. Fiona Circumnavigates Eastabout (Chapter 5). This circumnavigation was carried out in 2002 to 2003, taking about 67 weeks, much of it in the tumultuous Southern Ocean. We rounded the major capes following the classic square-rigger route. We were one of the few yachts ever to touch Kerguelen Island. As usual. I had visa problems with the Brazilian authorities. A leaky fuel tank is not stopping my sailboat Karl and me from exploring our surroundings. I lift up the anchor and sail away by myself, leaving Boca Chica behind and heading east, topping along the coast and at some pretty little remote islands on the way. The first stop is Isla Secas. The island is super pretty and it's time to try out my new kayak for real and circumnavigate Isla Secas with my kayak. And look who made it to the anchorage as well: Gypsea Jim! The sail from Trinidad to Grenada is supposed to be eazy-peazy right? Just a leisurely 80NM sail to another island. NOPE!!! It turns out to be one of the roughest overnight passages we’ve had this season with squalls gusting into the 40 knot range that knocked us around all night long with big seas and current against us. Not to mention we had two fresh greenhorns onboard, Eric and Maureen, who were our Patron Crew Contest winners for this leg. There’s no better way to break in a new sailor than with a good overnight passage in some hectic conditions :) If you’d like to learn more about our Delos Crew contests, and how you could meet up with the Delos crew for some sailing and SCUBA diving checkout out https://svdelos.com/delos-tribe/rewards/ Much Love ~ Kazza and the Crew PS. Winter is coming and we need to get ready for it! We are planning on working through the winter, therefore it is important for us to be prepared with all the necessities we will need to get through it. We heat primarily with wood, so that is a priority and then we also need to make sure that everything is properly taken care of (covered, stowed, raked, etc...). Finally, this is a good opportunity to shift the video schedule to allow for time to get these chores done but also to keep November to a two video month on Patreon. Due to our video release every other week we at some point end up with three in one month, which can be more than some patrons are expecting. Thanks for your understanding and support! We're excited for the next videos to come! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Proceeds from this video will go to the Coral Reef Alliance, but you can also support me directly (and specifically the production of these videos) by becoming a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/theadventuresoftarka Why the delay in posting? Unfortunately, I had to return home because of a tragedy in my family, and haven't had the emotional or physical energy to get a new video produced on-time. But, it's finally done, and I hope you enjoy! Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific. I am sailing Tarka around the world in part to raise money and awareness for coral conservation by supporting the Coral Reef Alliance. You can learn more here: http://www.theadventuresoftarka.com/fundraiser or visit their website directly: http://www.coral.org If you make a donation to their website directly in Tarka's honor, please send me an e-mail copy of your receipt so I can keep track of Tarka's fundraising. You can forward to: theadventuresoftarka@gmail.com Additional support for Tarka’s sail for CORAL (The Coral Reef Alliance) comes from donations by: Soylent - Healthy provisioning for the long offshore passages Sta Lok - Swage-less terminals for portions of Tarka’s rigging, making it an easy DIY job and allowing for easy inspection === Music credits: Plastic or Paper - Wes Hutchinson Wishful Thinking - Dan Lebowitz Mint Chocolate 2a - Vibe Mountain Eighty Miles - VYEN Sleepy Jake - Silent Partner Dance With Me - Ehrling: https://soundcloud.com/ehrling
As we’re cruising down the Inside Passage in Southeast Alaska we get to witness the extraordinary event of Humpback whales bubble net feeding. Truly amazing! We arrive in Warm Springs Bay and hike to the natural hot springs where we soak for a looong time. This place is just fantastic! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter, January 2016, and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. Ahoy, What's the best thing about sailing around the world? It's definitely meeting so many different awesome people in so many different awesome spots. And their stories are breathtaking, jaw dropping and inspiring and I think there is nothing better. Having that said, I met Tyler Bradt. Who the heck is Tyler Bradt?, would you say. He's a guy who sailed around the world already but did it completely different than the most would do. He is an adrenaline hunter, a freak, an extreme sports athlete and world record holder. He jumps down pretty much everything, wearing parachutes, wingsuits, boardshorts or a kayak. Can you imagine how someone jumps down a waterfall - a very high waterfall - in a kayak? Watch this episode and you will. I sat down with Tyler and he told me his story. And I'm super happy that we can share this with you. Enjoy the (wild) ride and if you feel like wearing a helmet or life jacket, that's OK! We welcome our Dear friend Duane onboard and venture out beyond Belize's barrier reef and visit some of their outer atolls. On our first night we stay at Turneffe atoll where we are attacked by mosquitos and seek refuge in the incredibly clear water of Lighthouse Reef. At the lower southeast corner of the reef there is Halfmoon Cay an idyllic tropical island that is home to a bird sanctuary full of frigate and redfooted booby birds. Paradise again, we are finally back in our environment. Give it thumbs a up if you liked this episode! Want more? We decided to stay in the water this year. Marina dei Cala del Sole in Licata on Sicily is one of the marinas who have a one-hull-for-free offer for Club Lagoon members. But first we have to get there, as the weather is getting less stable and there is 300 miles to go from Preveza to Syracusa.
