The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. Boat building with plywood is a relatively easy and cost-effective way to produce a strong, monocoque-style boat hull. These videos aim to show the way in which I go about it. Thank you! Tony

The preserve consists of three tracts: Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park Serenova Tract Anclote River Ranch Tract The preserve is the culmination of foresight and cooperative spirit of individuals and governmental agencies working to carry forth “one man’s dream.” The park is named after Jay B. Starkey, Sr., who purchased the land in 1937 and then developed a cattle ranch and timber operation. In 1975, Mr. Starkey donated several hundred acres to the District, initiating the concept of permanently protecting the land and its resources for future generations. The Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park is a regional park managed by Pasco County that features a paved trail that connects to the 42-mile Suncoast Trail; picnic shelters; hiking, biking and equestrian trails; a primitive campground; and camping cabins. The Serenova Tract is managed by the District for passive nature-based outdoor recreation activities. This tract has limited amenities and provides visitors a more rustic outdoor experience. The tract is a favorite for horseback riding with trails that wind through all major natural communities on the preserve. Equestrian and primitive camping is also available at Serenova. The prominent natural communities within the preserve are pine woods, cypress domes, freshwater marshes, stream and lake swamps, sandhill and scrub. The 2,300 acres of wetland communities in Serenova combine with the wetlands in the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park to form a connected 6,000-acre wetland ecosystem spread throughout approximately 18,000 acres of conservation lands. Public acquisition of these lands has maintained this large wetland system as a functioning intact ecosystem. This vast network of scattered wetlands become interconnected during periods of high water levels and serves as a vital life cycle linkage for many wetland-dependent species. Like many District properties, the preserve serves as a natural buffer for one of the region’s main freshwater resources, the Pithlachascotee River. The lands protect water quality by acting as a natural filter of surface water as it flows across the landscape into the Pithlachascotee River and its main tributary, the Anclote River. The Preserve also serves as a recharge area for a regional well field operated by Tampa Bay Water that is an essential component of the multi-county water supply system that supplies drinking water to the greater Tampa Bay area. Another less visible benefit of these lands is the vital link they play in assuring that the Gulf of Mexico receives the clean fresh water that is needed to maintain the long-term health of the coastal estuaries. Without a source of clean fresh water, the estuaries could not serve as the vital link in the life cycle of numerous species of birds; aquatic plants, such as seagrass; and popular fish species, such as redfish, sea trout, and mullet.

Marinas in Ibiza are expensive so the only way to get water is to pay for a 30 minute slot and go like crazy to get everything plugged in, charged up, filled up and washed down! The shops are further away so that means a trip on the dinghy and a walk up the hill, and when you've got lot of guests arriving, that's a BIG task! And we had a lot of guests this summer, starting with the kids' uncle John, his partner Helga and cousin Jacob. Then typically, as we were leaving to go sailing around the Island of Ibiza the battery charger stopped charging. We spend several days trying to fix it finally, it had to be returned to the UK for repair. However, with very diligent battery management we decided to carry on. So, we eventually headed up the coast to Benirras, a lovely bay with the famous Queen Victoria Rock, where drumming and yoga on the beach is a daily routine. It’s also a great spot to watch the amazing sunsets. We also decided to have a belated birthday party here for the kids after a somewhat subdued celebration in Tunisia. It also happened to be Alex's birthday too so a triple celebration was called for. After probably too much beer, Woody decided to become clickbait to lift our YouTube viewing figures and manfully donned a fancy bra in a vain attempt to boost our subscriber base.. watch this space for results! Off to somewhere less crowded next so we headed for Tamalago, where we encountered jelly fish and naked paddle boarders. As no-one could remember the name of the island we christened it Jellyfish Bay before continuing down the east coast of Ibiza to Cala Llonga where jumping off rocks all day became the kids favourite sport! Cala Talamanca was our final stop on this leg where we went ashore to explore Ibiza old town and do a guest swap, because uncle John, Helga and Jacob were leaving and our friend Heidi was arriving with her two kids. at the top of Ibiza old town there's an amazing view of the bay with its busy port and many super yachts! As we'd explored North of the island it was time to go South and we found a beautiful anchorage in the National Park area. In the Balearic islands you have to pay special attention to where you anchor because of the protected poseidonia sea grass. But no matter how carefully you lay your anchor, when the wind changes and the boast swings around if your chain touches the poseidonia, you're asked to re-anchor by the 'plant police' - regular patrols checking up on you! So we dived on the anchor several times to check.. but only to spotted more problems like the chain wrapped around a rock and chipped anti-foul. With the adults pre-occupied, the kids had a taste of freedom and went exploring and diving themselves. However, with freedom comes an element of risk, and Rowan had a nasty sting from a jellyfish that afternoon, so they kids turned their attention to the BBQ, grill. Formentera is the fourth Balearic island and we passed a lot of super yachts on the way there. Whereas Ibiza is all mountains, rocks and greenery, Formentera is sandy beaches and turquoise water - absolutely beautiful. Luckily, we also found a shop to reprovision, because with only one small fridge and lots of guests, we had very little ingredients for our regular Friday pizza and movie night! We STILL haven't got our watermaker up and running so with nowhere to fill up in Formentera we had to be careful with our water, so the shower water goes in a bucket that is then used to rinse the costumes and snorkelling gear before finally utilised to rinse dinner plates! WE obviously wash up in clean water afterwards though! Our penultimate stop was Cala Tarida before finally heading back to San Antonio for Heidi and her kids' last night. Sadly it was time to say goodbye.. and wait for our next guests to arrive! At the end of our last episode, we left you thinking we ran aground. Yeah, we did. Though in all fairness, it was more of a “nudge the bottom” situation. The question was, how did we manage to run aground in 8 feet of water, when we only draft 4? Turns out we were drafting much more. Unbeknownst to us, the line we had strung under the hull between the midship cleats had slipped off turning our several mile journey from the yard to our first marina. Believing our board was still up (we draft 4’ 2” with it up), we thought we’d just squeak into a slip with 5 feet of depth. Nope. We hit bottom about ten feet before reaching the dock. Now what? This turned into quite the drama for our first days on the river. We started with staying overnight at a lock, which you generally aren’t supposed to do — especially without permission; fortunately the lock operator on duty was sympathetic to our situation, as the lock itself was the only area in this part of the river with enough depth for our boat in its current state. The next morning, we backtracked six miles, first to Crowley’s Yacht Yard to procure some hardware for a new mast plug. The plug needed to bear the weight of the 200 lb. centerboard (via the pennant running from the board up through the partners and to the rope clutch on deck). This was our other problem: The first version of the mast plug we had fabricated didn’t work; we needed to make a new one. The rigging master at Crowley’s was incredibly helpful, and even gave us a couple blocks for free. We headed back to Skyway where they had dock space for us to start building the new mast plug. We were hoping that with a new plug we’d be able to pull the board up. Alas, no dice… We had to haul out. Three hundred and seventy-five dollars later, our board was back in its trunk, and our boat was again drafting 4’ 2”. We found out the centerboard had swung forward of 90 degrees, and the pennant had become jammed between the board and the trunk. Once we had the boat out of the water, we were easily able to free the pennant, and winch the board back up. Onward downriver! Hope you enjoy, Lauren & Kirk P.S. I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

Carly and I have spent months searching high and low for a blue water sailing boat in our budget that will be a suitable vessel to sail around the world. We've gone to see a wide range of boats, from very small high end Swedish yachts to cheaper but larger production boats, and a fair few in between. Check out the boats that we've been to see and give us your feedback on which you think would make a great live aboard sailing yacht to take us around the world. s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) left the quiet overnight anchorage of Betterton in the northern end of the Chesapeake and had a wonderful sailing trip to Edgewater on South River, just south of Annapolis. At first light wind and current against us, but it soon turned into an exhilarating upwind sailing on flat water. We arrived at Westbrook’s (OCC port officer) dock late afternoon in the very sheltered Almshouse Creek. The following days were very busy socially as we attended an OCC dinner, a Hallberg-Rassy reception, visited Annapolis with Alex, and then flying to Canada for Thanksgiving with family. The Annapolis Sailing Boat show was a highlight, except for too many “show offer” temptations, and budget was exceeded! We returned before planned from Canada, due to Hurricane Michael arriving in the Chesapeake Bay. And as we secured s/v Cloudy Bay for the hurricane, we also took the head sails down to prepare her for the yard time in Herrington Harbor North (the yard works will be in the next video). 1-15 October 2018

During the autumn of 2018 I arrived in Amsterdam in a Qatar Airways B777 flying over the whole of Holland and especially Lelystad and Flevoland and Amsterdam-Zuid. It was such a beautiful day with amazing little cumulus clouds. I love views from above down to our world and this video gives you the experience without having to actually board a flight or spent 6 hours folded up in a seat with limited movement! Enjoy it in 4K as that will be the best experience. Subscribe and like my video if you enjoyed it! I also have a facebook page with the latest updates and of course some eye candy on instagram. mise à l'abri suite a arrivée d'une forte dépression et découverte des îles kerkennah en Tunisie par très mauvais temps cet archipel méconnu de Méditerranée aux eaux peu profondes je présente rapidement les 3 ports permettant aux voiliers d’accéder, sachant que l'on accède pour chaque port a son propre chenal, attention seul 2 ports sont accessibles pour des tirants d'eau supérieur a 1m50 et 1m80 max l'une des particularités de l'ile: les Kerkenians boivent tous de l'alcool, c'est autorisé et ils ont leur propre vignoble et bien sur ils sont très chaleureux, accueillants comme tous les Tunisiens

We decided to stay at anchor during winter in the Greek Islands rather than stay in a marina or haul the boat out which seems to be quite unusual, as we are usually the only boat around most of the time. We leave Rhodes for our next Greek Island, Symi where we start to slow down, enjoy the Greek culture and changing seasons. We get to experience two different and protected anchorages Panormitis and Pedi and enjoy our first full sail without the motor in between the two. We are new to the cruising lifestyle, but so far it is everything we were hoping for and more, great anchorages, amazing people, sunrises and sunsets and freedom. This week we prepare for and enroll SVDreamChaser into the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival. Each year in October, people bring boats from nearby states for a classic display of quality boats and workmanship. There is a cool history here for us in that our boat was in this show in 2001 with the previous owner. When we first bough her, we found a participation plaque on board from the show. So with all the work we have done, we took a shot and brought her into the show We placed 3rd in the Sailboat category, which sounds really impressive until you realize there were only 4 of them there :) Either way, we had a blast and would definitely do this again, it was so cool to meet so many people that have been fans of the youtube show and brought it up to us upon meeting them. Our last leg down the Spanish coast was not just to meet with our dolphin friends but we found some last special spots to finish our Med tour. It's sad to close this chapter of the Mediterranean but we are all pumped about visiting Gibraltar, hanging with the monkeys and then setting sail down the African coast to the Canary Islands. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy. S1E7 - This episode we sail from Sweden to Norway. Doing that, we have to cross the feared sea-areas Kattegat and Skagerrag, where the baltic sea meets the north sea. High waves expect us, winds in gale force and coldness that is going through every part of the Body. Unfortunatelly, that causes some interruptions for Markus... We are finally ready to leave Marina Chiapas only to be thwarted at the final gate. The port it closed due to a cyclone threat just off the coast. So, yet again, we wait. In the meantime we fill our tanks with fuel via a quick outing and Wendy does a little acrylic painting as a gift for a neighbouring boat. We are also invited to a birthday party in the nearby Playa Linda and spend the afternoon drinking marguerites, Mexican style, and sampling some local Mexican cooking, which is lovely. And, of course, the boat jobs continue. This week is all about varnishing. Thanks for watching and following along with our adventure. (Ep.53) We started by putting in our cabinetry doors as we finally had our hinges, unfortunately about 2-3 of our doors had warped so we have to get them re cut. Ricky & Moses cut our foamalite to make the side panels for our cabins to hide away the bolts that show through. We do a supply run. We make the panel for our diesel tank cupboard and get her primed and ready to take vinyl. Our patreon Simon came to visit us and Ricky put him to work! They started making the plugs for our hatch frames. Thanks again for the help Simon. We gave the plugs a good sand and a wax the next day and got to making our awesome hatch frames! If you'd like to support the creative process please take a look at our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis Sailing to UNINHABITED tropical Island. We are only in Fiji for a short time, so even though Rob is away in NZ, we don’t want to waste any opportunity to explore the isolated tropical islands nearby. Convincing the boys that this would be a great idea is easier said then done. They have friends they want to hang out with at Vuda marina and anyway exploring is boring….or is it? As always, a big thank you to the talented artists who have allowed us to use their music. If you enjoy the music, please check out the artists spotify, websites and YouTube pages. In this episode Cricket Farm – Bending spoons David Mumford – Lover. Creative commons music The Nukes – Island Queen Malia J and Sy Rhys J - Vatulele Anthem Thank you to Aunty Paula from Te Pahu Sound Lounge for making the music happen, & Gary Reid for being a legend.
