In the last episode before we leave the European mainland we sail to Ferragudo and Alvor in the Portuguese Algarve. From here we will make a first 500 miles crossing to Madeira somewhere next week.

With only 1.5 days in Kaohsiung, it was an action packed itinerary to see as much as I could. My favorites were the Formosa Train Station, Pier 2 Art Center, Lotus Pond with the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, Gashun Temple, Confucius Temple, and Autumn and Spring Pagodas. This city is overlooked because of Taipei, but it's well worth a visit and gives easy access to the southern tip and the Kenting National Park. An entertaining video of a family sail (2001) across the South Atlantic in a new Atlantic 42 catamaran built in Cape Town. The owner, Sib Reppert, was an experienced offshore sailor, competition rower, ex US Navy and a IP lawyer. Sadly Sib passed away after a brief illness in 2013. You will notice that when the boat starts sailing fast there is a very loud humming noise reverberating through the boat. This was due to a small, 4" wide, swim step on the trailing edge of the rudder that did not have the edge beveled as directed in the construction plans. A square trailing edge starts a resonant vibration that can get very loud. Simply beveling the trailing edge with a file stops it completely. An easily corrected "new boat" bug. Three parts, enjoy.

I fell in love with Meti Island and its people during my visit, so much so that I extended my stay by a week. Such an innocent way of life there, smiling kids, laughing adults. Working hard each day but always together. This is the reason I brought my boat and started on this adventure, to see that there are still communities out there like this. Each day I spent walking around the island I was more accepted. The fact that I was taking pictures and then bringing back prints the next day showed them that I happy to give something back and the opened up a lot, to the point where a very old man stepped out into my path and asked me to take his and his wife picture. They had such big smiles and it just made my day. It was a very sad day when I had to leave and I will go back sometime. Me and Peixe visit a tiny little town called Carrical on the island of Sao Nicolau. Peixe has family in many parts of this island. It's why we're being so remote yet so familiar. I get a real taste of rural Cape Verde. This little town once was thriving with a tuna cannery which is now abandoned.We of course go and explore. Then we make our way to another town further along the coast called Preguica, which means "lazy". It's another town with charm and a little less remote and quite an ambiance for such a small place. Discovering Cape Verde with Peixe is priceless.

After a hike and a night anchored on the sandbar, I sail the east side of Oahu from Kaneohe to Honolulu. Tacking through the reefs in Kaneohe at night in 20kts of wind adds some excitement to the beginning of the passage. Once Im away from the protection of the reefs, the waves get big and I have a wet and wild ride for a few more miles upwind before I can finally bear off. I finally get a couple hours of sleep but I’m sailing so fast that I almost miss Ala Wai harbor. The wind off Waikiki is gusting to 35kts and big breaking waves are crashing on either side of the channel. Once I’m safe in Ala Wai I sell my boat and meet some new sailing friends and explore Honolulu. Although my voyaging on the Swedish Fish has come to an end, the sailing adventures are only just beginning. We had that pesky little problem that we sailed into Norway without being able to visit a customs agent, so in this week's episode we make another day passage up to the town of Florø. Here we make a visit to the police station to clear in, which means we're finally legal in the country and can get off the boat to go exploring. Even though we're in an industrial harbor, the town is incredibly cute, and just outside of it we find nice hiking trails which lead us to a lake full of ducks, WWII barracks, and amazing overlooks of the surrounding fjords. That is...when the fog isn't rolling through. It feels great to finally be sharing our Norweigan adventures with you...we hope you enjoy them!

On this episode of WE | Sail... We arrived to Cuba after a 3 day sail from Florida across the Gulf Stream. We were very much looking forward to visiting the largest island in the Caribbean, that is virtually untouched since the 1950's. We were ready to uncover the magic that Cuba had to offer. For a few days, we tried to escape the heat by touring around in almost every 1950's classic car you could find on the island. We explored the streets of old Havana, visiting the legendary hot spots of Ernest Hemingway's favorite watering holes. Sipped on Cuban rum and cooling daiquiris in charming old bodegas and listened to the sounds and soul of Cubano music. Havana belongs in another era, with its vintage American cars, art deco architecture and lack of violent crime. Come with us as we discover Cuba by foot, by car, and even by small yellow cuban tuk-tuks.
