This video is about sailing Whale Cay Cut, and to a lesser extent, about Tambi's nude beach experience. Don't worry - strategically placed pixelation obscures her bareness during that brief scene. (It's just for fun - also be sure watch to the very end.) Whale Cay Cut is a place that we have been a little apprehensive about transiting because we've heard that it can be a very dangerous cut. It's a place where a "rage" can occur - which basically means huge, unpredictable waves can really beat you up, or even sink your boat. Yeah, it's serious business, but thankfully our sail through Whale Cay Passage was an uneventful one. After we successfully transit Whale Cay Cut, out intention was to sail to Manjack Cay. That plan had to change when the wind direction was unfavorable for the anchorage at Manjack, so we modify our plan and head to a small, unnamed beach a few miles South of Manjack. Turns out that particular beach was "nude friendly". Typically Tambi isn't the kinda gal that runs around buck naked on Bahamian beaches, but I guess she was feeling a bit wild. While Molly and I hung out on the boat, Tambi took the dinghy (and camera) over to the beach for a little time to herself. Enjoy! "I just docked a catamaran!" The team, Tom & Shayla, Calvin & Cole, put their skills to work and become the navigators plotting a course up to Petite St. Vincent (PSV). Then, they take turns docking the boat. What does it take to park a 45' catamaran? Remember: Slow is Smooth! The team is flawless, now, in their anchoring skills in the pristine waters of PSV for the night. A visit to Goaties for sundowners then back to the boat for cheeseburgers in paradise! Meidium rare with banana ketchup 'd be nice.

A DIY boat paint project! We finished repainting our catamaran's hulls with 2-part marine paint. We painted the transoms white and added a painted boot stripe to the sides. Then, all of the painted surfaces were sanded down and then finished off with a coat of clear. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We can't produce quality inspirational content indefinitely without the support of our fans. Patrick Childress talks about almost falling overboard while peeing off a boat when he was younger, and about what other professionals feel about peeing off a boat, and what they practice and teach in regards to peeing over the side of a sailboat, particularly when offshore sailing. Hank Schmitt from Offshore Passage Opportunities then gives a brief lesson on how to use a marine head or how to use a marine toilet on a boat so it doesn’t leave any smell or mess in the head, and why he calls the “head” the “gym”. He discusses when to dry pump, and then when to wet pump, and when flushing the marine toilet, how many pumps on a marine toilet, for when you pee or poop while underway, on an offshore passage. Learning how to properly use a marine head is Important to learn when you need to use a marine toilet for every day boat life! A quick sailing how to video, another in the series of The Sailing Tips from the Pros, so you can hear how the pros feel about peeing off the side of the sail boat, and if real men should sit down on a marine head or not. And how many times you should flush a marine toilet to keep it all clean and smelling like roses! When the call of duty on a sailboat happens next time, what will you do? Will you pee over the side...or will you practice what you learn in this video about how to use a marine head, or sailboat toilet? Hank Schmitt runs a company that matches crews to sailboats for offshore passages. He is actually the #1 crew networking service in North America for Offshore passages. He also runs the NARC rally...the North American Rally to the Caribbean. This is the sailing trip that Rebecca took in 2001, to learn more about offshore sailing after several years of owning her boat and dreaming of cruising, or possibly sailing around the world. Patrick was the Teacher/Captain on that boat, and 2 years later they got together, and have been sailing around the world on SV Brick House for more than 12 years, slowly circumnavigating. To learn more about SailOPO, and how to find crew, be crew or sign up for an offshore Passage to learn offshore sailing, enhance your sailing skills and get a sailing resume, go to https://www.sailopo. Here is our favorite Marine toilet: https://amzn.to/2p6wTS2 We have nothing to say about composting toilets/heads, fresh water toilets/heads, electric toilets/heads, or other modern developments. Jabsco marine heads have been around for a long time, are tried and true and easy to maintain and repair. This is just about how to flush the toilet on a sailboat. All videography/photography of Hank Schmitt, and Use Of Head is by Will Hogan with permission. Will is an accomplished Videographer and offshore sailor himself. MICROPLASTIC in our OCEANS. Collecting data to help fight plastic pollution - UNTIE THE LINES IV #50
As a sailor, I live on and of the ocean. This vast body of water has always fascinated me, I have always felt magically drawn to it since early childhood. During the last years, I have seen the drastic effects that plastic pollution has on our oceans. Shorelines covered in pastic trash, animals getting stuck in trash or dying from digesting it. One way to help fight this problem as an individual is to change the way I consume. I stopped using single use plastic like plastic shopping bags, plastic cups, plastic straws, plastic cuttlery, plastic bottles and I try to keep my bathroom plastic free by using soap bars and bamboo toothbrushes. It may not be the world, but a good step in the right direction IMO. Another way, more effective way, to tackle the problem is to adress governments and companies to reduce the amount of plastic that is being produced. One way to do this is to help to provide data about the extends of the plastic pollution of our word which can be used to show why it is so important to change something. That's why I decided to build a microplastic trawler to takes samples in the ocean during my onward journey. As sailors, we are out there doing our thing anyway. So why not take the time to occasionally launch the microplastic trawler and take a sample. I am sure that if we all did a little bit, we could gather quite the impressive data base. If you also care about our precious oceans and want to help taking samles, you can DOWNLOAD THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL here https://www.5gyres.org/diy-trawl. ORDER THE 335 MICRON NET here https://www.halltechaquatic.com/ The rest of the supplies can be found in any DIY market. Good luck and I hope to see you IN MOCEAN soon :). Sometimes, boatbuilding is all about big showy pieces coming together. But much of the time it is also working with small details. This week, we focus on some of these details that we are going to have to figure out before we move on from the prop shaft assembly that is still coming together. Joe returns to bore out the Delrin on the lathe for out prop shaft liner. While he is working on that, we test out our homemade rivets and the backing iron that Joe made for us. We also talk about another very important aspect of wooden boat building. Plugging knots. We are going to have to work with the cedar that we have and this means finding and plugging dead knots before the planks go on Arabella. Figuring out all these seemingly small details, will save us a lot of time in the long run! Special Youtube thanks this week to Stu from Dangar Marine who came out to interview us for his channel and to Kaitlin McCall from Ouroboros Armory for making our rove set and a small backing iron. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Hosted by Gary Jobson, this video takes us back to cruising in Europe during the late 1980s. From Sailing Quarterly Video Magazine. (D1Z) **************************************************************** Also available with a subscription to SailFlix.com https://www.sailflix.com/cruising-european-waters **************************************************************** Norway: Skagerrak Sea The first cruise takes you to Norway where the midnight sun and Norwegian fjords provide a striking backdrop for a charter vacation. Romania: Black Sea & Danube R. Delta Next your stop is Romania with legendary skipper, Tristan Jones exploring the Black Sea and the Danube River Delta. You arrive shortly after the 1989 revolution that deposed Romania's communist dictator, Nicolae Ceaușescu, foreshadowing the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. Ireland: Celtic Sea Next up is Ireland with another legendary skipper, Don Street. Don sails to the Fastnet Rock at the tip of the Celtic Sea and turning mark for the famound race. We then join Don on a cruise the beautiful southwest coast of the Emerald Isle with local stops and pub crawls. Greek Islands: Aegean Sea For our next cruise, we join a Cruising World Magazine flotilla charter through the Greek Islands and the beautiful waters of the Aegean Sea. Yugoslavia: Dalmatian Coast There was a time when the Baltic States were a model of multiculturalism with Orthodox Christians and Muslims living side-by-side. Communist but with a high degree of independence, Yugoslavia enjoyed peace and stability. Bordering the beautiful Adriatic Sea, Sunsail established a charter destination offering gentle cruising and island hopping in the calm, clear waters off Croatia's Dalmatian Coast. Turkey's Western Coast Our final European cruise takes us back to the Aegean along Turkey's western coast. A crewed charter explores this ancient coastline and its numerous Greek and Roman ruins. ABOUT SAILING QUARTERLY Produced in the late 1980's, Sailing Quarterly Video Magazine's 24 one-hour programs set the standard for sailing television. It's content represents over 200 years of sailing knowledge from its hosts and presenters such as Gary Jobson, Don Street, Tristan Jones and John Rousmaniere. We've taken individual stories, and grouped them under instructional categories and cruising destinations. The complete series includes nine instructional volumes, eight destination volumes, and the 24 original SQ one-hour programs. This is timeless content that will benefit every sailor, racer or cruiser.
Our home stapled on one pallet! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. Sailing in October, for us, usually means piling on the layers. Not this year! It's still 35 degrees on the Costa Blanca and we're really enjoying sailing, swimming and exploring in the sunshine. We go in search of good anchorages, buy a paddleboard, and enjoy working on the boat without the customary wind and rain that we usually injure at the end of the season. With the children leaving home we decided to sell our house in the UK and buy a boat in Holland. After two years refitting our Hans Christian 48T we have now set off a world voyage. We are retiring early because we want to attempt this voyage in good health and while we're fit and strong enough to really enjoy it. We will have to work a bit as we go until we can draw our pensions and we honestly don't know how well that will work. In our real lives we are journalists and filmmakers so it was only natural for use to document our travels by filming the journey. We aim to produce a professional standard vlog of the whole trip and try to give the viewer a real insight into what it's like to live and travel on a 48 foot sailboat. Our first aim is to sail South. After a winter getting iced in on the Markermeer in the Netherlands Judy insisted on warmer weather! So if you start from Episode 1 you will see us setting off from Eastbourne in the UK and travelling along the South Coast to Plymouth to enter a rally called ARC Portugal. Our first goal is to reach the Mediterranean and that means sailing across the infamous Bay of Biscay. This was a very good test for our boat as the bay lived up to it's fearsome reputation and split the whole fleet with a force 10 storm. Storm Miguel cut through our path and meant we had to run to mainland Spain to escape the massive seas and fearsome winds. Six boats couldn't make it in time and spent several very uncomfortable days at sea. The fleet had several broken boats, but thankfully no injured people. And this was just Episode 2! The excitement continued for the rest of our trip to the Med. Dolphins played in our bow wave, we sampled fantastic local foods and wines, great port in Porto! We found some beautiful anchorages and visit some wonderful historic places like Lisbon in Portugal, Cadiz in Spain and the fascinating port of Gibraltar. We will show you what it's like to winter in the Mediterranean, how much it all costs and give hints and tips on where to go how to save money with your boat and the places you stay. We are also talking to other sailors. After years of broadcasting journalism we know how to get peoples stories and we regularly film other sailors to show their boats and lifestyle as well as ours. We can always learn from others. Our long term plan is to spend a few years in the Mediterranean, on our list of place we want to visit are; Mallorca, Malta, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, Tunisia, to name but a few! When we feel we've seen the best of what the Med has to offer we will cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean, we are hoping we can fit in a trip to the Azores on the way. We have no idea how long we might want to stay in the Caribbean but we do intend to have at least one excursion up the Eastern seaboard of the United States to visit the wonderful sailing areas of Florida, Virginia, sailing Meccas such as Chesapeake bay and hopefully get all the way up to New York. Of course the South Pacific is somewhere every sailor wants to go and will be a real draw for us. So going through the Panama canal will be a real milestone and we really look forward to having the big doors shut behind us and sailing into the biggest sailing playground of all! #sailingfairisle

Hello Friends, On this episode we show you how to install a "Rope Clutch" on your mast. If you are not familiar with what a rope clutch does it is basically a one way channel / brake that allows you to pull the line through one side but it doesn't allow the line to travel in the opposite direction when engaged. We installed a used Spinlock clutch we bought for $18 at Minney's Yacht Surplus for our mainsail halyard and to use when hoisting someone aloft as an added safety measure along with tying off to the cleat. Thanks for watching ! Fair Winds, James & Camille SV Triteia

Sailing PIRATES or FISHERMEN in remote tropical paradise - If you'd like to support the creative process please take a look at our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis Sailing, PIRATES or FISHERMAN We were sailing and this boat pulled up beside us, claiming they had broken down, we had no idea of their intentions. Were they Pirates or fishermen? Friend or foe? It’s unusual for cruising boats to attract unwanted attention while sailing in Fiji but it’s not unheard of. The only way to find out what these guys wanted was to go outside, face them, trust them and bathe in the serendipity that followed. Music Cricket Farm – Bending Spoons David Mumford – The Path David Mumford – Walking in the Country Looking for Alaska – In the end Who are we? In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before setting sail with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. ***** Never stop wandering, never stop wondering. #TheCruisingKiwis
Vanuatu is the start of WWII Relic heaven in the South Pacific. It has some of the friendliest people and it's also the best place to find and swim with Seacows! The second yacht in the SW96 miniseries - SW96#02 SEATIUS - is the answer to the dream of an owner who wants to sail around the world in speed and safety. SW96#02 has been optimized for a very high performance worldwide cruising program. The owner is planning on sailing with a relatively shorthanded crew most of the time. SW96#02 features generously wide aft sections and an open transom. These ensure an ample deck area and abundant interior volumes, elements that are a real plus for any performance cruiser. The uncluttered sightlines of this Raised Saloon blend a sleek coachroof with high ceilings and light which floods into the interior through panoramic windows and hull portlights. SW96#02 interior features Southern Wind Shipyard’s most popular owner’s cabin forward layout with two comfortable guest cabins amidships and crew quarters and galley aft. The crew area is an efficient working environment for four and includes a double en-suite Capitan’s cabin. SW96#02 SEATIUS has won the Best Interior Design Sailing Yachts award at the prestigious 2019 Boat International Design and Innovation Awards. The yacht interiors were masterfully drawn by long-time Southern Wind collaborators Nauta Design perfectly translating the owners’ taste with the help of the interior designer Jeroen Machielsen from Studio Hermanides for the decoaration. The success of the outcome has been widely appreciated by all.
