En plus, comme nous n'avions pas beaucoup d'expérience, nous ne savions même pas mettre correctement le tangon pour bien ouvrir le génois. Après 6 jours, nous sommes enfin arrivés au Cap Vert. After some knocks, I finally have some good news! Hopefully this is the start of getting back onto the water. Finally, on my third attempt for my Class 1 License, I made it! Now, I can legally leave Japan's shores as the Class-One License allows me to go beyond 5 nautical miles off shore. What I consider odd though, is that if I had a foreign registered boat, I would not need a boat license at all. Unlike a drivers licence for a car, where you need the license for the jurisdiction where you are to drive, with a boat, here in Japan, it is about whether it is a Japanese-registered boat or not. Olla gitana the name refers to gypsies because it was the dish that they prepared at the end of the day from the vegetables they collected from the local farmers. That is the explanation to such an ingredient variety, but always with pears. In the Murcia region, traditional cuisine is a popular dish prepared by families with what was available at the time or what their economy permitted. The main thing to remember about making “olla gitana” is the fact that it should be full of different vegetables. The dish was originally developed in Cartagena (Murcia region) and a southern Spain. You can find many different formulas, but today I want to share a recipe from 86-years Miguel. We are cooking in the port of Cartagena and we enjoyed cooking authentic Spanish dishes with him. Planking can be a long tedious process, especially when you are gluing up and fastening full length planks. We hit a bridge!. We have a 60ft tall mast (plus 1ft for instrumentation), and the bridges are 65ft. So normally we don't have to think twice. The tide was exceptionally high and the bridge was reading 62.5ft. So we shoulda been fine, close, but fine. But this bridge had some netting on it for construction and some of it must have been drooping low enough to grab our wind instruments and tear them off! Scared the crap out of all of us. We arrive at St. Augustine Florida and start to asses the damage. With all the negativity in the world, it is pretty easy to make someone smile! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we are still at the island of Simeulue off the west coast of Sumatra. this sleepy laid back island is as close to a free range farm as you can get! With limited protected anchorages along this coast line, we explore the island by land. We hire a scooter and dodge all the farm animals and their land mines, as we take the hog down some jungle tracks looking for waves. It is pretty easy to make a stranger smile. We have an old surfboard we wish to give away and we head down the beach in search of some grommets to pass it on to. It was actually harder to do then it sounds! But we perceiver and one lucky lad is the proud new owner of a surfboard!! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we are returning to Thailand in the coming months and then taking the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World!
