The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. The festive season is upon us, and to get in the mood, we’re presenting a traditional dish. Shuba, or Russian herring salad, is a traditional Slavic dish that has a spot in most Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian and other households over major holidays like Christmas. Colloquially known as “herring under a fur coat”, the layered salad is made with pickled herring that’s then covered by potatoes, onions, carrots, beetroots and eggs, with a final layer of mayonnaise and grated beetroot topping it all off for its characteristic purple hue.

Season 5 Episode 99: Running from a Blow to Fort Bragg On this weeks episode we motor through the day and night and come into Fort Bragg ahead of an approaching blow. No marinas were able to accommodate a boat our size so we found the only dock space we could in the channel and tied up. The Captain made the right call as soon the winds were blowing a gale with gusts over 40 knots. Camille and myself went to explore the harbor village and the shoreline in the blow which made us very happy that we were on land for the event. Once we returned to the boat Camille took advantage of the black marble shower onboard MV DRAGON LADY, a feature our 30' sailboat is lacking. We’ve been finding the Swastika on tombstones and gates all over Bali. At first we were shocked. Turns out the swastika existed long before the Nazi’s. To this day it is a sacred symbol for many religions including Buddhism, Hinduism and many others. And the best part it represents the opposite of evil. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. First, we set sail and head into Lake Bras’dor by navigating the famous St. Peter's Lock. Once anchored, we do some provisioning in the nearby town. And then its finally time to begin exploring a new anchorage a little further off the beaten path. Once there, we make our first bonfire and have dinner by it's light along with our friend Brian, our buddy boat for the season.
