Watch this spectacular footage of the 130ft maxi trimaran Spindrift 2 as she sails from France on her fourth attempt to break the non-stop round the world record. The pace the 11 crew have to better is an incredible average speed around the world of 22.8 knots!

Unlike other sailing yachts the superstructure of the Vindö we sail on is made of finest mahagoni which needs a lot of care. It's not a rocket science to keep the wood which we totally revarnished 3 years ago in good shape. It's all about the right techniques and diligence. Here we have made an episode for you showing how to get a smooth finish.

Waking up on our sailboat early in the morning, to get out on the canals, is often a hassle. It is however necessary evil if you want to put in a lot of nautical miles AND you have to deal with a lot of locks. Chilly mornings but often sunny afternoons while passing through nice countryside in France has been a regular thing last 2 weeks. After the Champagne et Bourgogne canal we were very glad glad to go on to the Soane, finally we could speed our boat up! No internet connection and small countryside towns are no irregularity. Beautiful tunnels and lock houses aren't either though. We are 300 kilometers away from actually hoisting the sails again and obviously are very happy to go towards this goal again. Hopefully Betsy will stay smooth and keeps running like she's done for the last 2 weeks! We are almost boat engine specialists at the moment. Always good while we're heading on to the Mediterranean. iFLY15 full foiling while being towed by rib. Even being towed, iFLY15 keeps stable foiling while staying under control, thanks to FlySafe® technology. Some people believe foiling behind a towing motorboat is easy. It is not, with many dynamic factors influencing (e.g. sail trim, direction of the light remaining breeze, waves, pulling angle...). Don't try this without a state of the art active flight control system. And be sure to have a quick release towing rope! Seeing in this video also some crazy stuff we did to have fun in very little breeze: The towed iFLY15 is overtaking the towing motorboat. Actually, it was quite a hot ride and got a bit scary when the foiling cat was speeding up so radically. Some discussions ongoing how this is possible. Is it only the pulling angle of the rope or is it also the effect of the apparent wind, powering the flat trimmed wingsail? I think it is a combination of both. Being on the boat, actively driving the mainsheet, I could feel the force and advancing by the mainsail and also for horizontal flight attitude had to support the active foil control system by mainsheet work . The light breeze mixing up with the headwind is creating a usable apparent wind. I think also the wingsail helped a lot. And for sure, an important factor is also minimum drag by the advanced iFLY foils. Those are having an extremely slim section thickness. To have such a slim profiles for the daggerboards is a big advantage performance wise, but also a huge challenge from the point of view of static engineering. To have sufficient structural strength, the iFLY foils are full carbone, no sandwich, with a highly engineered layup plan and a combination of different carbon fibers, plus a titanium core structure. And they are manufactured by compression molding at 40t. With this advanced engineering, they are very stiff and still endure the loads of a crew of 180kg. Or a sturdy single handed sailor stepping on the tip of the foil to easily righten the boat after a capsize. // Another crazy thing in this video: foiling gybing while being towed. Not easy to do, and I would not dare without a really good flight stability. And make sure you can always quickly release the towing rope, when doing such tricks....

After a week in Bequia we took our family, who were visiting Millennial Falcon, around the corner to Petite Nevis to explore the island. We noticed what we thought was a dead sea turtle under a piece of corrugated iron sheet and went in to have a closer look. We soon discovered that it was in fact alive, bound and had been hidden there to possibly die. We then went into rescue mode, trying to save the turtle and get it back into the water. It’s day one of racing for the Hyundai NZ 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships being hosted by Royal Akarana Yacht Club and the place is humming with activity as the sailors prepare to hit the water. The Royal Akarana Yacht Club has achieved a lot in its 124 year history and just a handful of months ago they opened their new facility at the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre. Located on the waterfront of Okahu Bay with views of Rangitoto and the city skyline, RAYC has propelled itself forward as a leading yacht club in New Zealand, and the world. Its taken 30 plus years to get the new facility to go from a dream to reality, and today marks an important date in the club’s history. Want to watch the racing? We were meant to head out to live stream and commentate the Stewart 34 Championship Series on Monday night the 2nd December, but the good ol’ wind Gods had other plans. 28 knots was consistently pumping over the course area, and with the northerly wind direction, and tight racing area, it wasn’t deemed safe for Stewart 34 short course racing. So instead of covering the racing, co-commentator for the evening, Bradley McLaughlin and I decided to have a few yarns at the local watering hole, Swashbucklers and chatted about the Stewarts and provided an update as to what’s been happening in Auckland over the weekend, and what’s about to unfold on the Waitemata Harbour – the Hyundai NZ 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 Worlds. Amélie et Alexis sont partis des îles de la Madeleine en septembre 2018 sur un Chrysler 26 avec un moteur Johnson hors-bord des années 70. Leur but était de rejoindre les îles bahamiennes en passant par la Nouvelle-Écosse et la côte Est américaine. Pour plusieurs raisons très valables, ils ont dû sortir le bateau de l'eau à Halifax et descendre jusqu'en Floride sur un ''trailer''. Ils ont ensuite pu profiter des Bahamas pendant quelques mois et remonter l'intracoastal tranquillement avant l'été 2019. À leur demande, je vous précise que l'aventure est aujourd'hui terminée.. Ils ne forment plus un couple, et font désormais ce qui leur plaisent chacun de leur côté.
