In this episode we install the Fashion Pieces, which will form the connection between the hull planking and the transom. We have to cut the heels, drill and chisel the notches in the centreline, and bed them with Red Lead paint and bedding compound (Dolfinite & pine tar). Rowan also works on fairing the bottom of the frames in preparation for the cast bronze floor templates. We sail across from Italy to Sardinia and manage to avoid lightening storms and then fill up with water in the busy port of Olbia. Finding water is never an easy thing so we are very careful with how much water we use but this is quite tricky while keeping on top of the clothes washing with a family of five. We hang out with another boat family who we have made good friends with even celebrate an early Christmas with them as now that planse have changed, we cannot be with them in the Canaries this year. We cannot find a weather window to get through the Bonifacio Strait so we decide to head South and cross to the Balearics from there. We ride out a storm gusting up to 50 knots and get 3 visits from the coastguard to check our documents before finally heading in the direction of Spain. We are a family of 5 and make our own electricity and water, homeschool the kids and do our own boat maintenance. Our dream of cruising and exploring the world's oceans is matched with a desire to live a more off-grid and sustainable lifestyle. A background as RYA instructors, flotilla skippers and RNLI crew only partly prepared us for the challenges of this live-aboard lifestyle! Wie fühlt es sich an auf nur 28Fuss als Familie im Mittelmeer unterwegs zu sein? Wir zeigen es. Mit Frau Annette und Sohn Tim bin ich seit 2008 auf einer Etap 28i im Tyrrhenischen Meer unterwegs. Allerdings ganz anders, als man es erwarten würde. In dem Film "8 Jahre Mittelmeer" ist der Zuschauer immer hautnah mit dabei. Das Segeln steht dabei nicht so sehr im Vordergrund, sondern mehr das gemeinsame Abenteuer als Familie. Hier gibt es nun den Ausschnitt aus dem Film "liparische Inseln" Der Törn führte von Rom/Fiumicino über Palmarola, Ventotene zu den "liparischen". Dabei erkundeten wir diesmal Stromboli, Besaluzzo, Lipari, Salina und Filicudi. Bemerkenswert ist, wie naturverbunden man heutzutage noch im Mittelmeer unterwegs sein kann – auch in der Hochsaison! Begleitet uns auf unserer ersten Fahrt nach dem Refit mit unsere Benko. Der Motor wurde repariert und wir fahren aus dem Kanalsystem von der Aprilla Marittima aufs offene Mittelmeer um den Autopiloten zu konfigurieren und alles mal ein bisschen zu testen. Danach geht es zum ersten mal anlegen mit Dalben in der Capo Nord. Dort werden dann noch ein paar kleinere Arbeiten im Wasser erledigt und wir sind sehr froh, dass wir es bis jetzt soweit geschafft haben.
