I start the full size boat build of model I designed. This is a step by step video documentation of the build after 11 days of work. It is a unique home build I have been wanting to try and decided to finally give it a go. It is a reasonable project for the DIY home builder with moderate wood working experience and a low overall cost. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

When flying foxes attack the instruments on your sailboat mast how would you discourage them? Every night on Pulau Tioman these Large Flying-foxes (Pteropus vampyrus), with wingspans of up to 1.5m, leave the trees in their thousands on the hunt for fruit. On the way they like to stop off on the masts of any hapless sailboat which happens to be at anchor. They're big, strong and break important bits of sailing equipment, like Windex wind direction indicators, just by sitting on them. Near-threatened on the IUCN Red List, the crew has to find ways of discouraging them without causing any damage. Underwater at Tioman, the coral is vibrant and healthy. Jamie filmed shoals of reef fish while black tip reef sharks patrolled between the coral heads. We talked to the Juara Turtle Project, an NGO trying to save turtles by protecting their nests. Of the 27 beaches around Tioman used for nesting by hawksbill and green turtles in the past, only 5 remain. But the project is doing a great job of protection and at the same time giving employment to the local community. On this episode of WE|Sail, we finally check in to Belize. Our much anticipated arrival into the beautiful Central American Caribbean country nearly took us all day to check in, running around the entire island of Ambergris Caye of San Pedro into order to be sorted and legal! Once checked in we were again on the run heading south to spend a couple of weeks exploring the second largest barrier reef in the world before settling down in the Rio Dulce for the following three months. We sailed in shallow waters, around 1 foot below our keel for the majority of our time in Belize to a popular laid back Caribbean island called Caye Caulker where we ended up taking some backpackers along with us to Guatemala. Our new friends and crew, Rosalie and Sylvio joined us for the weeks ahead island hoping down the chain of islands, teaching them how to sail, sling lobster and give them a taste of the live aboard lifestyle. In turn, they showed us a few things when it came to diving in Turneff Atoll and were great crew! In November 2018 we sold our house and belongings to begin our journey of becoming work travelers by sea one day.
