Four weeks before the Tall Volcano Erupts in the Philippines, we managed to visit the beautiful city of Tagaytay. The Taal Volcano erupted last January 12, 2020. A view of Taal Volcano from Tagaytay City as it spewed thick clouds of ash on the next day. A lot of people need to be evacuated at alert level 4. So there is a risk of a bigger eruption later on. And a 14km no-man zone has been established due to the risk of ashfall. Let us pray for the people in Batangas. We visited Perfect Day at CocoCay in December 2019. Here's a review of the Thrill Water Park. As a family with 4 kids, visiting a water park (or anywhere) can be challenging, but the Thrill Water Park was perfect for us. At the time, our kids ages ranged from 12 to 7 and they all had a blast. We were a bit worried about them getting lost, but the Thrill Water Park is fenced in and you have to have your sea-pass card to get in or out. There were plenty of available seats so it wasn't hard to find a chair to make it "home base" for the kids when they needed us. The lockers are complementary and you can set a passcode on the lockers, so no key necessary. Just get them early, first come, first serve. They were big enough for a backpack and a few more items. The wave pool was really nice and had a concrete pad that goes down into the water so you don't end up too sandy. There was plenty of shade too everywhere on the island so we didn't have to worry much about getting too hot. Daredevil's tower is really tall. I counted 14 flights of stairs to the top. The ride is amazing though - definitely worth the climb and the views from the top are incredible. Our kids enjoyed the rest of the slides on the tower too and rode them over and over. We loved Splash Summit that contains the Slingshot, Twister and Speedway slides. We did the Slingshot first. The tubes are carried to the top by an automatic conveyer belt so we didn't have to carry anything to the top. Depending on how much your group weighs, you may have to take two tubes instead of one. For our family of 6, we had to to 3 at a time. (probably all of that MDR weight!!) The speedway ride has the shortest lines. Just grab a mat from the bottom and head up the stairs. There are different sized mats so pick one that fits you. The Twister slide uses tubes and single or double tubes are available. We had lunch at the Snack Shack in Thrill Water Park. We had heard of a secret menu item: the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich... basically, order a chicken sandwich and a side order of cheese sticks with marinara sauce and put the cheese sticks and sauce on the chicken sandwich. Mmmm so good! The kids loved the burgers, fries and enormous cookies. All free. The Adventure Pool was a favorite of our kids and is in between the Splash Summit and the Wave Pool. We liked it because the kids were able to play there while we got a bite to eat and we could keep an eye on them. The Adventure Pool has a rock climbing wall, lilli-pad stepping stones to cross the water, rope swings and more. We did get to see a bit of the Chill Island, but we've already booked two more cruises WITHOUT KIDS so we can go relax there and really check it out. Happy Cruising! With the whole engine vibrating we debate crossing Lake Oneida or not. The biggest lake along the Erie Canal it can be challenging in bad weather or with engine troubles especially when your mast is down and you can't use your sails as a backup. After looking around for quite some time we finally find a tinny at the right price and go ahead and purchase it. We need an aluminium boat for The Kimberley. Unfortunately Peanut 2 won't survive a crocodile attack! Magnus takes the new tinny for a test and discovers that it is riddled with holes! So, it gets a great deal of TLC over the next few days. Then it’s time to re-launch it to test that everything is OK. What happens next is very unexpected and quite scary! We are still pushing to get work done while we deal with figuring out what needs to be done to revamp the boathouse. We got another set of boards milled up for the last oak plank on the port side. As we are getting down to the last of the oak planking stock, we are getting to pieces with a couple more defects. Nothing that is concerning on unmanageable but nevertheless things that need to be dealt with properly. That means we fill in some bung holes in this plank. While working on this, we also get a huge addition to the boat yard. When we visited Ganon and Benjamin, they offered us their old 26 inch thicknesser. They had just received a larger newer one and this unit was pulled out of the way and waiting for a decision on where it should go. We gladly made the trip to go get it and brought them a couple of the knees we just freed as well as some oak boards as a thank you! And we have to say, we VERY much appreciate their generosity! Thank you! Now, we just need to figure out a power unit for this bad boy! We are sailing back to Lanzarote and firstly visit Marina Puerto Calero. Then we carry on to Arrecife and are having a look at the island's capital. Furtheron we are sailing to Caleto del Sebo on La Graciosa. Time has stood still on this island and we can enjoy a little of the original primeval nature of the Canary Islands. After sailinmg back to Marina Rubicon we take a rental car and are having a look at the inner part of the island. Amazingly, very good wine thrives on Lanazarote. Of course, we also pay a visit to the Timanfaya National Park and the house of César Manrique. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
