In this video I review our trusty and do-everything tender. We purchased this from Sirocco Marine in Ft Lauderdale. Then, we sailed to the Abacos and purchased a 15HP Yamaha Enduro 2 Stroke. In late February we visited the island of Fuvahmulah in the south-area of the Maldives. We experienced probably one of the best Tiger Shark diving in the world alongside the Bahamas. But not only Tiger Sharks call the area around the island their home. Silver Tip, Grey Reef, Thresher and Whale Sharks also show up in huge numbers. And also the coral reef, especially around the north corner of the island, looks extremely healthy compared to other parts of the Maldives. TIme to spent some time on the Pearl Islands. We meet with our friends from Sailing YUM YUM and make a nice BBQ on the beach. The boys caught fresh fish for us - after that we find out that you should not eat Parrotfish - lesson learned. Later in the night we start to make stupid games, which end with a bloody lip for me and a lost bet, Mario has to make breakfast for all of us on the next morning. But it's a sad morning, as we have to bring our friend Jenna to shore. After more than 3 weeks she is leaving us again to go windsurfing for another week before she has to work again back in Canada. Paul Brown was one of TMGs most recent handovers in France in 2019. Rowan sat down for a chat with Paul to find out why he decided to buy a Lagoon and specifically the 42. They go on to chat about his first few months aboard, his highlights and why he decided to pickup in France. The main focus of the get together was for those members who could not make the Lagoon Escapade in the Whitsundays have a second chance to meet fellow Lagoon owners on a spectacular and highly underrated sailing venue. An impressive 10 boats were in attendance over the weekend including a L500, L420 from QLD and two owners that drove from QLD. Two more were from Sydney and a total of 40 people joined.

It is day 2 of our sailing passage across the Atlantic, and we try to settle into offshore rythm. The sea state is a little wild, and it feels like everything in the boat is falling. In the afternoon, Sophie decides that the conditions are good enough to start fishing, and we drop a line in the water. An hour later, we get a bite! But that’s also the time that the wind and the sea state start to pick up again and we have a helluva time bringing our (enormous?) catch onboard. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** JOIN THE CREW! ** Join our virtual crew of Patrons at: https://www.patreon.com/ryanandsophiesailing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** MUSIC ** 🎶 In this video: Vic Sage - Grind (Artlist) Biba Dupont - Volga (Artlist) Evolv - Where were you (Artlist) Anthony Lazzaro - Strangers in Disguise (Artlist) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). As promised, we are starting our planking party today and to celebrate that we are putting out our favorite limited edition tshirt to date! If you enjoy the videos and would like to support in a way where you also get a great gift for yourself or someone you know would enjoy it, this is a great way to do so. Orders for the t-shirts will be taken for the next two weeks via Bonfire. So that means starting today, March 16th until the 30th. Once the orders are all taken, Bonfire will send that to the printers and the shirts will ship straight to the address you give them shortly after that! (Somewhere around April 8th and 17th) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can order your shirt here: https://www.bonfire.com/acorn-to-arabella-planking-party-2020 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The design was drawn by our friend Scott Ouderkirk at the channel Glass Goat. He came by a while ago and took a picture of Arabella and reimagined her with planking on and Akiva sitting by her side. A perfect design for this time! Not only does Scott have a knack for the artistic, he is also working on a new YouTube series called the Wooden Boat Experience where he is going to be restoring a couple of old wooden boats, messing around in some beautiful old wooden boats and exploring the thousand islands region of the Saint Lawrence in New York. You can check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGYcRPQKqUg&t=109s and his website here: https://www.glassgoat.com/ And as always thank you so much for all your support! We are so excited to share videos of the next three weeks with you! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- Acorn to Arabella wishlist: http://www.acorntoarabella.com/acorn-to-arabella-wishlist Jamestown Distributors Referral: If you are going to shop at Jamestown Distributors, please consider using our Total Boat referral code: http://totalboat.refr.cc/steveandalixa?t=tg FOLLOW US: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acorntoarabella/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acorntoarabella Website: http://www.acorntoarabella.com

In this episode, we finally made it back home to our boat and opened her front hatch after 2 months being shut up. Although she smelled a bit musty, she was actually not in bad condition and a few hours of unpacking and putting her back together got her looking normal again. The next day we woke up early… jet lag had kicked in and we found ourselves hungry, in the middle of the night, with a not-so-tempting can of lentils to feed us. So as soon as the sun rose, we were up and out of the boat and to the nearest shop we could find for a small provision… enough for coffee and pancakes! Shortly after, we started our move to the next bay (Prickly Bay) to stock up on actual food and boat parts. Before we could move however, Adam had to go in for a swim to chisel away some unwelcome growth that had been calling our propeller it’s home for the last 2 months. Once in Prickly Bay, we found an Hardware shop and well… that was where we became aware that we were long overdue for a good old boat job!! SEASON 6 / The Haul Out : Episode #118 : Hauling Out Triteia ! This New Season follows us through our trials and triumphs as well haul the boat out for the first time! On this Episode we move Triteia into position and the Yard Hands put her in the sling and fly her out of the water! Once she was on her sticks on the hard we discovered our prop had suffered electrolyses and needs to be replaced. We also discovered that our rudder was made out of wood, which really shocked me. Racing the daylight I ground off all of the "mushroom caps" of the thru-hulls so we could tap them all into the boat. After spending an entire weekend preparing for our passage to the Bahamas by taking the dogs to the vet and provisioning for three months worth of supplies, we’re finally ready to sail out! Luckily we find a buddy boat, Nova Satus, that has the same plans as we do. We wake up early in the morning and prepare our boats for the trip and head out to Bimini, although we’re not able to sail as much as we were planning because the wind shifted later than we had anticipated, we mange to make it to the most beautiful island by motor. Upon arriving, we meet the crew from Sailing Alma and they have all the documents for customs and immigration prepared for us. ☺ Support our production by giving this video a THUMBS UP & SUBSCRIBING ☺ Join Our Crew On Patreon: ☞ https://www.patreon.com/livinghakuna ⇩ SUBSCRIBE ⇩ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrlbNFmD2FNK9srrkjTnIPA?sub_confirmation=1 Find our gear here: ☞ https://livinghakuna.com/our-gear/ Stay up to day with us on: ☞ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/livinghakuna ☞ Website: https://www.livinghakuna.com ☞ Instagram: https://instagram.com/LivingHakuna/ ☞ Facebook: https://facebook.com/LivingHakuna Music: ☞ Ehrling - No Worries (ft. Jupiter² was built in the Philippines by an Australian designer for Jamie. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. But his life dream is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China, where they were both working. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie loved about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. When locked down in Cape Town South Africa we had the spare time to start putting together some videos that we wanted to share with our family and friends. Cruising the world and life onboard, is pretty difficult to describe to people verbally. Making videos about this lifestyle help them understand why we love it. This was the beginning of our sailing channel. The early footage was never intended to entertain, or enlighten, so the early vids are a bit of a patchwork. From South Africa onwards, we actually started filming with intent. Although with only the bare equipment, namely an iPhone and a go pro. We would love to get some better gear to improve our production quality, but due to planet Earth still being in lockdown and our cruising in remote locations, we’ve been unable to even buy a tripod! Soon, we hope. Jamie has spent decades working towards this dream of cruising around the world on a sailboat. However, it was not his only dream. Whilst being raised by a single mum on a single parents pension he would dream of becoming an astronaut! After finishing high school, and realising there is very limited opportunities for space travel growing up in country Australia (whom have no space program!), he got his first job in a factory, and focused his energy on the next best thing….. Flying. After a chance joy flight with a friend, Jamie found a new passion and with his factory job, managed to pay for one flying lesson per week. After 6 years he had all the qualifications to fly professionally. However, finding that first job is the real challenge. That came in the outback Australian township of Mt Isa, starting out on a four seater, Cessna 172 flying teachers, doctors, politicians and local aboriginals to wherever they needed to go. His career now spans nearly 30 years and having flown and commanded both Boeing and Airbus heavy jets around the world he now had the chance to fulfil his sailing dreams. He found the right design vessel, had it built and saved up a kitty. He also found the right girl! Finally it was time. UNTIE THE LINES I hope that our videos inspire other dreamers to reach out, focus and obtain your dreams. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing". Life is not supposed to be about just getting by. I find it ridiculous to spend your life paying off a mortgage just so that at the end of if, you have somewhere to live. You’ve only got one shot at it, as far as I can tell…. so make it special. Dream big. Live in the “now”. Make every moment count…. towards your dreams. #lovefishing #fish We sail the coast of Cuba where we find these very small fishing villages. They are beautiful but still very behind in time. Every time you arrive somewhere in Cuba you need to have your documents checked by the coast guard. You either have to go and see them or they will board the boat. But everyone is very pleasant. We arrive in Santiago de Cuba, a beautiful city to visit. Hey guys Patreon has a new STRUCTURE, come along and have a look! We are giving you an extra video every week, yes that’s right!!!! We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon
In this video we connect our deck shower with great difficulty and very simple solution to our Island Spirit 38’ yacht. We drill the breather holes, attach the waste pipes and seem to drill what would seem logically - way too many holes in our yacht. We have hiccups along the way (with almost everything we do) and try and find the best solutions we can. We are in the little town of Langebaan on the western coast of South Africa that doesn’t seem to ever stock what we need, making sourcing materials for this yacht refit very difficult and expensive. BUT we are powering on. With 60% of the work done and the last 40% still to do we put our heads down and all get on with our jobs on a daily basis. With Valentines Day approaching at the end of the week Colben and Teagan make it a Valentines Week and take the afternoons off for a few picnics and exploring around the marina but carry on with day to day jobs during the day. No rest for the wicked.
The Sheet Bend is a great knot for joining two ropes of different diameter together. Learn how to tie a sheet bend in minutes by watching our video, one loop and one turn is all it takes. The Sheet Bend is simple to tie and tightens on itself once it comes under load. The Sheet Bend can come undo prior to load getting applied, for these low load use cases you may want to tie the Double Sheet bend or Fishermans knot. See the links below for video on how to tie these knots :- Fishermans Knot https://youtu.be/AvFgCYWvqyg Double Sheet Bend "Coming Soon" The Sheet bend It can become hard to undo if it has been placed under large load or left untied for extended periods of time. If you are going to leave the sheet bend tied up for long periods of time it is wise to loosen the knot occasionally to avoid it becoming frozen. The Sheet Bend can be used if ropes are the same diameter, it works better than other options if they are different diameters. Thanks for stopping by to watch our Know Knots video.
