Part 1: Finding where I am using only the sun ☀️ No GPS, no screens, just timing and angles. The goal here is simple: catch the sun at its highest point. First, I check the Nautical Almanac for the meridian passage… but that’s for Greenwich. I’m not there, so I adjust. The sun moves 15° per hour. I’m roughly 30° west → that’s about 2 hours difference. So now I know when to start paying attention. As that time gets closer, I grab the sextant and start measuring the sun’s height. Over and over again. At some point, it stops climbing. That’s the moment. It hangs there for a few minutes, just long enough to get a clean reading… and that’s where the real calculations begin. That’s how I start figuring out where I am, in the middle of the ocean, using nothing but the sun.
