We were looking forward to sail on The Bosphorus, the 30 km long strait connecting the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara, surrounded by the city of Istanbul (15 mln inhabitants!). More than 100,000 vessels pass through each year, so very busy area, we planned our trip with care and checked all the rules about sailing on this water and the strong currents. In this video you will see the Asian side and the European side, filmed from our catamaran, with hightlights like: - the Blue Mosque - Maiden’s Tower - Yalıs: Ottoman wooden waterfront villas - 15 July Martyrs Bridge - Rumeli Hisarı Fortress - Ortaköy Mosque - Galata Tower and Galata Bridge - Hagia Sophia

⛵ Bermagui → Eden → Merimbula: The Weather Window That Never Came In this episode 252 we sail from Bermagui down to Eden on the east coast of Australia, hoping to catch a weather window to cross Bass Strait and finally make it to Tasmania. After a week of waiting in Eden with nothing promising on the horizon, we head 10 miles north to Merimbula to explore a new town and wait things out. Three more weeks pass… and still no safe weather window. We explore, we hope, we check forecasts obsessively — but the opportunity never arrives. After four long weeks of waiting, we make the tough call to abandon our plan to sail to Tasmania and turn north instead. It’s a gutting decision, but safety comes first. In this video, Mark from Nomad Boat Building walks through the wood lamination process for wooden boat construction, focusing on laminating a stem and transom knee using West System Epoxies. Laminating is a critical technique in traditional and modern boatbuilding, especially when creating strong, stable parts with tight curves that would otherwise require steam bending. Mark explains when and why to laminate, how to design effective lamination molds, how to choose veneer thickness, and how to calculate the correct amount of epoxy for a successful glue-up. You’ll see step-by-step demonstrations of: * Building lamination molds (solid and truss-style) * Cutting consistent veneers safely * Using backing bands and clamps correctly * Performing dry clamp runs * Applying epoxy for optimal penetration * Managing spring-back and final cleanup This is a practical, real-world guide aimed at wooden boat builders, DIY boat projects, and woodworkers looking to master structural laminations for marine use. If you’re building a strip-planked boat, restoring a wooden hull, or learning traditional boatbuilding techniques, this video will give you the confidence to laminate parts that are strong, fair, and long-lasting. 🛠️ Sponsored by West System EpoxiesChosen for their strength, reliability, and long open working time—ideal for complex laminations. Boat Fires Part 2: Galley Fires, Pan Fires & Gas vs Induction Cooking Galley fires are one of the most common and most dangerous fires on board — and many start with simple mistakes that are completely preventable. In Part 2 of this series, we focus on galley and cooking fires, including pan fires, gas systems, and whether induction cooking is a safer alternative for boats. In this video, you’ll learn: What pan fires are, how they start, and why they escalate so fast Why you should NEVER use water on a pan fire The correct response to a galley fire using lids, fire blankets, and extinguishers Why fire blankets are essential equipment on every boat Common galley fire risks most boat owners overlook The real risks of LPG / propane gas on boats Why gas leaks are especially dangerous in marine environments Gas safety essentials: lockers, solenoids, detectors, and hose inspections The pros and cons of induction cooking on boats Why induction reduces fire risk — but only if the electrical system is designed correctly Cooking fires don’t give second chances. Knowing how to react in the first few seconds can mean the difference between a minor incident and abandoning ship. ⚠️ Disclaimer This video is for educational purposes only. Always follow manufacturer instructions, marine standards, and professional guidance when working on electrical systems. After a few days in Olbia on Sardinia we sail north in shifty wind towards the Maddalena archipelago. Gitte finds her happy place and Anders do some tricky navigation. Litza do what she does best:) We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Epic Navigator This video documents a real single-handing sailing operation, from preparation to execution. The boat was prepared the day before in Athens. Before sunrise the following morning, I departed alone, raised anchor single-handed, and documented the process using a drone and a 360 camera (Insta360 x5). You can get the camera here: https://store.insta360.com/product/x5?utm_term=INRJD9E USE CODE : INRJD9E to get a discount at the checkout Along the passage, the video also captures the destinations and coastline we pass, offering a real sense of route, environment, and conditions. The journey continued to Almyra Shipyard in Agioi Theodoroi, where the boat was hauled out for winter maintenance. This is real-world single-handing — focused on routine, risk management, and decision-making when sailing alone. No demonstrations, no shortcuts, just practical seamanship in real conditions. A trip taken in vain. We went to Dallas for a special event except while in flight the event was canceled. Landed and immediately rearranged our return flight for the next day. At least we had time to drive by a few of our old dancing clubs in Deep Ellum and enjoy some great jambalaya at the Free Man Cajun Cafe & Lounge. Brought back some great memories. Our first episode, Refitting a Catalina 42 sailboat, dancing and messing around Ep 1, was videoed at a few of those clubs. Steve’s been soaking the bolts on Isabella’s engine riser’s flange for several weeks. He was able to remove them and take off the flange. Next step, remove the protective insulation on the riser to expose the metal portion and have a welder weld the flange onto the riser. We’re making progress on fixing the exhaust leak, yea! More to come on that...but that’s another episode. It had been a while since the Vitrifrigo refrigerator had been defrosted, so that was next on our to do list. The ice had built up quite a bit and it was definitely time to melt that away. Once defrosted, it was time to celebrate aka dance time. Leben passiert jetzt. @SailingNavita #sailing #sailingfamily #travel #boatlife #bordercollie #cats

We deep dive into the hidden substructure of the Hallberg-Rassy 370 to reveal the construction details owners will hopefully never see. Chris Beeson gains exclusive factory access to Hallberg-Rassy, guided by owner and CEO Magnus Rassy, to explore the all-new Hallberg-Rassy 370 in build. We show you what’s behind the advanced insulation, rigorously designed ventilation systems and structural strength that define this storied marque’s bluewater cruisers. Magnus Rassy also addresses one of the most talked-about design choices on modern Hallberg-Rassy yachts: twin rudders. Often viewed as controversial by traditional cruising sailors, this configuration is explained and defended, with a clear look at the real-world handling, control and performance benefits. Finally, the video reveals the all-new keel attachment method, showcasing how Hallberg-Rassy continues to evolve its yacht construction. - We love reviewing yachts for you, but it costs money and pays very little. We thought we were ready. After clearing out of Malaysia in Labuan, we finally set sail west toward the Anambas Islands — with nine onboard: our family of four, five crew, and the dog. But before we could even leave, we discovered we’d picked up rats onboard. What started as a few nibbled food packets quickly became something we had to deal with before heading offshore. Rats on a boat aren’t just unpleasant — they’re a real safety and health concern, especially with kids onboard. Once the problem was dealt with, we set sail… and almost immediately ran into our first squall of the passage. In light but unsettled December conditions, the mainsail tore — and what followed were slow days at sea, stitching repairs underway, light winds, and the quiet rhythm of life onboard continuing regardless. This episode captures the in-between moments of a long passage — repairs underway, everyday life onboard with kids and crew, and all the small moments in between. The Anambas Islands are still ahead — and what’s coming next will test us more than we expected. Thanks for sailing with us. ⛵ We are Sailing NV We’re a sailing family refitting an ex-Vendée Globe Open 66 into our home on the ocean. Can you go barefoot on a boat? You can—but on most boats it’s a fast way to stub a toe on cleats, winches, blocks, tracks, and other deck hardware. In this video, we walk through how to choose safe boat footwear and how to tell if a shoe you already own will work. You’ll learn the boat-shoe essentials: siping (grooves for traction and water drainage), how to do a quick rubber softness test for grip, why boat shoes have a lifespan as rubber hardens, and how to avoid the classic mistake of tracking grit into your soles (especially on teak decks). We also cover offshore boots—including gaiter + bib setups designed to keep water out. MISTRAL ravaged west coast SARDINIA is challenging first mate and military force us to move on - twice! Stuck on a rock, near gale downwind sail, amazing beach, sheltered marina, anchoring puzzlements, pains and tribulations. Tea and biscuits make everything better. We visit a ten thousand (10,000) year old settlement and ancient city, exploring the south west coast. Sheenagh is still suffering much pain from the broken rib sustained in the shower at the Cagliari apartment during boatworks in the yard. Pain killers essential in bouncy seas and mooring up in high winds. The anchor chain gets stuck around a submerged rock and we change a furling sail while underway. Hi guys, at Fakarava we really enjoyed the people, friends and water with lots of diving and beach combing. We almost crashed the boat and we are still on pins and needles about it. We got another load of supplies and finally after 8 days left for Rangiroa which will be our last atoll in the Tuamotus. If you can ever get to this place we highly recommend it. Hint: you don't have to sail here from Panama. You can get here from Tahiti on a small plane and many people were doing just that. www.svhappytoghether.com Music: Sailing by Leisure Cruise Beautiful day by U2 All I need is you by Borns Little Pastry by stock music

Living true boat life, we’re forced to depart in less-than-ideal conditions, carefully timing our approach to the infamous Knysna Heads. Known as one of the world’s most dangerous harbor entrances, a single mistake here could be catastrophic. With the powerful Agulhas Current pushing hard beneath us and heavy seas building, this final leg of our circumnavigation tests everything we’ve learned along the way. As conditions worsen, Shannon and Davis battle relentless seasickness, pushing through exhaustion while the pressure mounts. Every wave brings us closer to either safe refuge—or serious danger. Will our sailing family make it safely into the Knysna Lagoon, or will the ocean decide our fate? ⛵ Subscribe and join us for real-world sailing, boat life, and circumnavigation as we chase horizons and take on the toughest waters yet. We are a suburban blended family that has raised our 3 older children and now want to travel the world. After planning and saving for the past 6 years, we are now embracing our dream of sailing around the world on our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. Follow our journey as we Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,800/month (food, communication, fuel, insurance, transportation, mooring/marina & fun). After more than a year with our mast down, we’re finally pushing hard toward re-stepping — or so we thought. In this episode, we dive back into the final stages of our complete mast rebuild, a project that has included stripping the old paint, full rewiring, new clutches, new lights, and cleaning and servicing every single piece of hardware. This week was all about getting the mast as close to ready as possible for crane day. We wire the masthead VHF antenna, anchor light, and weather instrument, then tackle one of the most challenging parts of mast work: running lines internally. To get past the obstacles inside the mast, we break out an RC car to help pull messenger lines through — an unconventional solution that actually works. From there, we reassemble the furler, reinstall the spreaders, wire in the spreader lights, and hang the standing rigging back in place. Everything is coming together — except the final step. We can’t secure the lower ends of the standing rigging yet because we’re still waiting on our new turnbuckles. Then comes the gut punch. Two days before our scheduled crane appointment, the turnbuckles finally arrive… and they’re wrong. The threads are too large, they won’t fit, and there’s no workaround. The crane is canceled. The re-step is postponed. And after a year of work, we’re absolutely crushed. This is the reality of long refits — progress, momentum, and sometimes heartbreaking setbacks right at the finish line. If you’ve rebuilt a mast, dealt with rigging delays, or lived through parts arriving almost right, you’ll understand this one. Thanks for following along as we keep pushing forward. We’ll get there — even if it takes a little longer than planned. ☝More about us, our adventures, and how we do all this on our website. Episode 300 | Sailing to Ilhabela to take the next step in our seamanship. In this episode, Ben takes on the challenge of becoming a *Master of Yachts* training through *International Yacht Training (IYT)* at Azimuth Náutica here in Brazil, while MP joins the course pursuing a *Yachtmaster Offshore* certification. What started as a professional goal quickly became something much bigger: a deep dive into responsibility, decision-making and what it really means to command a boat and care for the people on board. ⛵️ A huge thank you to *International Yacht Training (IYT)* for giving us this opportunity. Whether you’re dreaming of going professional or simply want a solid, internationally recognized foundation for your sailing journey, this training can make a real difference. 👉 https://www.iytworld.com ⚓ Training completed at *Azimuth Náutica* (Brazil) 👉 https://azimuthnautica.com.br 0:00 What is a Master of Yachts? 2:56 Meeting the school & first lesson 5:00 MP's big announcement 5:40 Master of Yachts vs Yachtmaster Offshore 6:38 Back to the classroom 7:05 Why international certifications matter 7:45 Studying, pressure & responsibility 11:25 Chart plotting 13:03 Ben's birthday 17:21 Practical training on the water (sailing) 26:17 Practical training on the water (motor) 33:22 Meet the crew 42:59 Final exam day! 45:40 Did we pass? ⛵ *Hop aboard & follow our journey* → SUBSCRIBE https://bit.ly/3dI3hBn 💙 *Support the adventure:* 🌊 *Join our crew on Patreon* → Exclusive content here: https://www.patreon.com/sailingyaba ☕ *Send us a drink* → via PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=JEA5R5RUDJDLY 🧢 *Shop our gear* → Coolest T-shirts and hats here: https://shopsailingyaba.com/ 💌 *Receive letters from the sea* → Sign up (for free) for MP's newsletter: http://sailingyaba.substack.com ✨ *Want to sail with us?* We’d love to share an adventure with you! But this wasn’t always our life. In 2020, we found Yabá abandoned, sinking, and on the verge of being lost forever. We had no experience in boatbuilding, only a wild dream and the determination to make it happen. We worked relentlessly, learning from the best local shipwrights and pouring everything we had into this rebuild. It took four years of sweat, setbacks, and unwavering commitment, but today, Yabá is more than just a boat, she’s our home, our biggest adventure, and the proof that crazy dreams *can* come true. Now, we’re sailing into the unknown, exploring remote islands, embracing the unpredictable and sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Day 47, Solo NonStop Circumnavigation: I switch out the storm sail for a stay sail Captain Jay gave me back in Grenada. While doing so I also chose to exchange some reefs and lose it in the boom. Big mistake! It’s September 10th. In the North Atlantic. Heading towards the equator. Over 2,300 miles from the start (Grenada). 0 engine hours have been used since setting sail. WILL ANSWER ALL COMMENTS WHEN I HAVE SERVICE! ❤️ ABOUT: My name is Captain Kimmer. After tri-outs: sailing across the Atlantic without any navigation equipment, just my eyes and the stars, we’re on mission 1 of 3. A Solo NonStop Circumnavigation with a twist! I hope you enjoy the show. PATREON: Captain Kimmer For those who want to support financially, this is the best moral boost! NON PROFIT 🐶 ♋️ The Bravest Dog in the World Is About to Change It. Help Us Get There. I’m Captain Kimmer, Kimmer O’Reilly — sailor, survivor, and founder of a mission that shouldn’t be possible. Two-time blood cancer nearly took my life. When I survived, I expected joy. What came instead was an identity crisis. I didn’t know who I was anymore — just that the old me was gone. Then came Casper — my service dog, my best friend, my reason to fight forward. Now, Casper and I are doing something no one believes can be done: a nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe… starting from the wrong side. We’re sailing east, into the wind and current, through the Southern Ocean and past the Cape of Good Hope — proving that after cancer, life isn’t over. It can be better than it ever was. But we’re not just breaking records. We’re launching a nonprofit to help cancer survivors rediscover purpose, identity, and joy. This GoFundMe isn’t just to keep our sails full. It’s to build something that lasts long after we return. Donate today — not just to help Casper and me sail around the world, but to help thousands of survivors believe they can start again. Let’s show the world what’s possible. 👉 https://bit.ly/BravestDogInTheWorld 🎼 🎵 MUSIC: 🎵 🎼 INTRO: Song: Chime & Nytrix - RunawayMusic provided by NoCopyrightSoundsFree Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/CN_Runaway OUTRO: Song: Coopex, KHEMIS - If Looks Can Kill [NCS Release] Music provided by NoCopyrightSounds Free Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/IfLooksCanKill Watch: http://NCS.lnk.to/IfLooksCanKillAT/youtube
A smooth sail across the Turks and Caicos Bank quickly turns sporty as a squall hits while exiting the bank, we drop anchor at remote Big Sand Cay 🌊⛵️ The next day, we sail up to Cockburn Town on Grand Turk to officially check out of the country. From colorful island houses and wandering donkeys to quiet streets and beautiful coastal views, Grand Turk delivers classic Caribbean charm. We also snorkel the third largest barrier reef in the world—with mixed expectations and honest impressions 🐠🤿 After checking out, we sail back to Big Sand Cay where the adventure continues: spotting iguanas, playing in powerful waves, and enjoying a steep, wild beach that reminds us why we love life off the beaten path. From calm seas to squalls, quiet towns to empty cays—this is sailing life in Turks & Caicos. Our solar setup have always been different then the typical cruising sailboat. Most cruisers have fixed panels rigidly attached to an arch or bimini structure. Although this provides a secure support, it limits the amount of solar that can be harvested from the sun. With our setup we can tilt the panels to optimize our solar input. It has served us well over the past 8 years, but now it's time to make some improvements to the whole setup. 4K VIDEO: Our journey has brought us to #belitung Island — a gem of #indonesia , surrounded by dozens of small #tropical islands. https://www.youtube.com/@UCnFwi3w2FDFK7Vzag5Dn-3A In this journey, we explore them by #yacht and tender, landing on beaches with snow-white sand, tasting local food in small family restaurants, and sharing the flavors of authentic Indonesia. But the main challenge lies ahead: we are heading to an uninhabited island where, according to rumors, a unique treasure is hidden. To get there, we must navigate through strong currents and coastal reefs, which turns our trip into a real quest.
