A truly special overnight sail 🌌⛵ In this episode of Sailing Mirage, I sail solo from Matthew Town, Great Inagua to Acklins Island, Bahamas - a 96 nautical mile passage. I departed around 4pm, timing the sail for a full overnight run. The conditions couldn’t have been better: steady downwind sailing, winds around 15–20 knots, warm air, and a calm sea. To slow the boat and arrive safely at first light, I reefed both the main and genoa, keeping the speed around 6 knots for a planned 7am arrival. Night sailing always feels different - quieter, deeper, more personal. Under a sky full of stars, I talk about Orion and Betelgeuse, a massive red supergiant that may one day become a supernova. With a neutrino burst already detected, the thought that we might actually witness Betelgeuse explode in our lifetime is simply incredible. Near Castle Island, about 7 nautical miles from Acklins, I dropped anchor for a quick 3-hour rest, then continued on under engine - making water, charging batteries, and watching the morning light return. There’s something truly unforgettable about being alone on a small sailboat at night, surrounded by the wide open ocean and the universe above. I tried to capture that feeling - the calm, the focus, and the quiet joy of it all. If you love real passages, night sailing, and the spirit of life at sea - welcome aboard. ⚓ Fair winds, Vlad Sailing Mirage

From 19–23 January, 18 young people joined us for a five-day school holiday voyage through the Hauraki Gulf — and the weather made sure it was a real adventure. ⛵🌧️🌬️ With challenging Auckland conditions throughout the week, life onboard quickly became a lesson in resilience, teamwork, and adaptability. Living and learning at sea, the crew took part in hands-on sailing, navigation, and watch systems, discovering what it truly means to work together when conditions are tough. While time ashore was limited, the experience delivered an authentic outdoor education journey. Students were pushed outside their comfort zones, built confidence, supported one another, and proved that growth often comes from challenge. Sit back and enjoy the highlights from a voyage defined not by perfect weather, but by determination, learning, and teamwork. 🌊✨ #NZSailingTrust #YouthSailing #SchoolHolidayVoyage #HaurakiGulf #OutdoorEducation #ResilienceAtSea #Leadership #Teamwork #YouthDevelopment #SailingAdventure

Sailing offshore in the winter months looking for Northern Gannets and North Atlantic Right Whales. The females and calves use the shallow and warm continental shelf to have their young after an 18 month gestation period. The calves grow at an amazing 50 lbs per, HOUR! Yep, they have to put on a thick layer of blubber to survive the colder northeastern coast during the summer months when their food source is rich and plentiful. What an amazing ocean creature experience. We stayed super far away to give them room to do what Whales do. Have you ever heard a 🐋 whale? Sounds like a lion roar, a grizzly bear, or an alligator rumble! Super to be able to see and hear this awesome creature of the Ocean! #sailing @sundog_sailing #whales #doscapitanas #offshore #rare #northatlanticrightwhale

Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. Fiji has over 330 islands scattered across 750,000 square miles of the South Pacific—about half the size of the continental United States, but the actual land? Just over 7,000 square miles. The rest is all water, so having a boat is a plus in these parts. We won't see them all, but we're damn well going to try. In this episode, we start our journey island-hopping through Fiji with our friends on a motor trawler, navigate narrow passes, discover vibrant reefs teeming with life, and find our own private island (okay, it's a sandbar... but it's ours for a few hours). From Yellow Banded Sweetlips to Pacific Regal Blue Tangs, the underwater world here is like watching a movie in real life. This is what seven years of full-time sailing has been building toward—exploring some of the most remote and beautiful anchorages in the South Pacific, one island at a time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ⚓ Thanks for watching! Comfort sells boats. But does it actually make them better? When I started seriously looking at boats, I noticed something that didn’t sit right with me: Almost every modern boat is marketed around comfort first. Wide decks. Cushions everywhere. Spacious saloons. But very little talk about performance, capability, or what actually matters when you’re underway. In this video, I break down: - Why the boat industry pushes comfort so hard - The real tradeoff between comfort and performance - How most people evaluate boats at the dock, not at sea - Why “comfortable” doesn’t always mean “safe.” - And the one question every future liveaboard needs to ask themselves This isn’t a catamaran vs monohull debate. It’s a comfort vs capability conversation—and I’m not convinced comfort deserves to win by default. 👇 I want your take: Would you rather travel faster with less comfort… or slower with more comfort? Let me know in the comments. If you’re planning to buy a boat, live aboard, or sail farther than the nearest marina, consider subscribing. Every video on this channel is about making better decisions before you ever leave the dock. Duncan and Larissa Copeland have been professionally involved in ocean ecology for many years. When they decided to take their young family sailing, they set up a citizens science directory to help other boats link with projects. The whole family have been fully engaged with many research projects all the way across the Pacific. Along the way they have encouraged many fellow cruising boats to connect with Citizens Science Projects. In this interview Duncan describes how engaging with scientists has enhanced their family adventure and contributed useful data to a range of different projects. https://www.freerangeocean.org/aboutfreerangeocean

In this episode of our ongoing sailor vlog series, we spend time with Vilma Bobeck and Ebba Berntsson from Sweden in the days leading up to the 2026 49erFX World Championships in Cagliari, Italy. Rather than a full “day in the life,” this video follows the pair during a key training block just before the championship began — capturing how a brand-new partnership builds rhythm, communication, and confidence on and off the water. Vilma came into this season fresh from an impressive campaign in Paris, where she won Olympic silver alongside Rebecca Netzler. Now teaming up with the younger and less experienced Ebba, this new pairing had little time to gel before stepping onto the world stage together. Through focused training, open communication, and strong leadership from Vilma as helm, the duo quickly found their dynamic. Their preparation paid off. Competing against a deep and highly competitive 49erFX fleet, Vilma and Ebba went on to claim the silver medal at the 2026 World Championships in Cagliari, securing the title of Vice World Champions in their very first major championship together. In this vlog, you’ll see snippets of their on-water training, their teamwork in the boat park, and hear a few words from both sailors as they reflect on their partnership, the learning curve, and what it takes to perform at the top level in the 49erFX. A raw and honest look at elite sailing, new-team dynamics, and what it takes to compete with the best in the world. If you enjoy behind-the-scenes sailing content, make sure to like, subscribe, and follow along as we continue this series with more athletes across the 49er and 49erFX fleet.

In this lofting video, I walk you through on how to calculating a new table of offsets with reduction for planking. Ultimate Guide: https://youtu.be/lZ3mOuXdB5Q If you are building a boat from a set of plans, understanding how to adjust your offsets for the thickness of your planking is essential for a fair hull.Learn how to calculate your table of offsets and apply the necessary reduction for planking! Lofting can be intimidating, but breaking down the math makes it simple. I will show you exactly how to take your line drawings and adjust them so your station molds are the perfect size for your planking thickness. We are the only boat builder with this method, and you are welcome to copy our method. This video explains a unique method for calculating a new table of offsets with deductions for hull planking, as demonstrated by JungleRanch. It shows how to use polynomial regressions, including 2nd and 3rd-degree equations, to achieve this, using numerical methods and data analysis to improve accuracy. This approach streamlines boat building and showcases practical machine learning applications in design. The calculation is performed in four steps, with a summary after each step. You can take screen copy and paste in a word document! 00:00 Introduction 00:24 The standard Bud McIntosh method 00:40 Step 1: Regression of the table of offsets 01:58 Step 2: Perform derivation and calculate the tangent angle 03:49 Step 3: Calculating the reduction for planking 05:21 Step 4: Check of the new table of offset #boatbuilding #BoatLofting #WoodenBoat #DIYBoat #MarineConstruction #NavalArchitecture #BoatDesign #Woodworking #HowTo #HullLines #BoatPlans #Molds #Shipwright #PlywoodBoatBuilding #BoatConstruction #Lofting

🌊 Join me, Jacqueline Evers, on my epic journey around the world aboard my 27-foot Grinde, Loveworkx. In this video, I look back at Episode 28, a very early moment in the preparations for my solo circumnavigation in The Netherlands. It is April and still very cold in The Netherlands, but I cannot wait to make my miles on my new boat. The day starts at 5:30 AM, with plans and preparations for a solo tour around North Holland which means that I solosail at sea for the first time. As the wind builds beyond force 5, I choose backup and set sail together with my husband Mark. Fresh bread, strong winds, and an early departure set the tone. What follows is an 11-hour upwind sail toward Enkhuizen—locks, freighters, reefs in the mainsail, and winds up to 27 knots. A powerful reminder that at sea, plans are always written in sand. 💙 Love my videos?
