In this video, Ray takes you through his go-to tool bag. He discusses his favorite brands, what he thinks is worth splurging on, and what you can get away with having cheap versions of. As a liveaboard sailor with a background in engineering, these are the tools he thinks are must-haves for boat maintenance! If you would like to add any of the tools mentioned in this video to your tool bag, you can find them here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/hollyandray **As Amazon associates, we earn commission from qualifying purchases** ——————————————————————— Check out our Blog! https://www.svsabado.com Follow us on Instagram! @sv_sabado AltE Store (affiliate link) https://www.altestore.com/?afmc=3e Music provided by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/ov4tmg/ #sailing #tools #toolstour #boatlife #catamaran #liveaboard #toolbox

#sailboats #diysailboat #sailboatrestoration #sailboatrefit #morgan382 Our sailboat projects continue on our 43 year old Morgan 382 and while 29 days seems like a lot, we have about 29 things on our list to do before we launch our sailboat, we work full time, and the weather hasn't been cooperating. BUT, we're making headway. Check it out!
There’s always a boat project or maintenance and repairs to be done. In this episode I commissioned my Twin Crusader 350 motors and tightened the alternator belt. I then made a new sunbrella canvas. This was my first time working on a canvas enclosure aside from previously repairing some stitching. It is not a step by step how to video, just a blog of how I made my person effort at completing the job. The rest of the helm enclosure will hopefully be replaced as the season goes on. My sidekick is Baby Tati. She’s a mini yorkie @baby_tati_yorkie if you want to follow her on Instagram. Sunbrella fabric was purchased on Amazon. I do not have any sponsors on this video.
Handrails, also called grabrails, aren't just a convenient feature... they're one of the most important boat safety items aboard. They should be comfortable in the hand, easy to reach, and of course people also would like them to be aesthetically pleasing. They should be everywhere aboard, ready to grab in case of a sudden and unexpected motion, as happens from time to time in a quiet anchorage with passing boat traffic. These handrails are one of the most anticipated boat parts in this DIY wooden boat so far (it covers the joint between the grub aka house sill and the cabin house) and so we hope you enjoy the covered bronze bolts and the more finished look of the interior. Steve installs a large piece of custom bronze hardware to the boat, which covers almost the entirety of the stem. We also bung all the fastener holes, get a little more work done on the companionway hatch, check in with Akiva, and get a little further on the traveler, which is an important part for the running rigging and sail trim. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! We are on our way to the Florida Keys soon. Celebrated by cooking some delicious steaks. In preparation, we did some DIY and took out the dinghy. Steve did some chalking to fix a leak down below. Sometimes it is really hard to determine the source of a leak. Karen wore a tiny bikini to work on tan lines and we had some dinghy fun. Still waiting for some canvas work before departing and of course we did some dancing. Excess 14 Welcome back to Navel Gazing at Camp David. We are heading back to Bordeaux and the yards of Lagoon and their latest brand Excess. Today we will tour their latest launch with a brand-new mold that takes the brand to its intended place in the market, in between the large comfortable cruisers and the growing performance cruiser segment. The Excess 14! With its sporty aft outboard helms, low boom over a foldaway sky lounge, a new hull design and weight reduction of 2 tons the Excess 14 carves a relatively unique niche in a crowded market From the Famille Luc Schweitzer, Maison Ginestet Château De La Chapelle 2018 is a supple and velvety medium-bodied red wine blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. An impressive and amazing value Blaye under $22. Look for cassis, fresh blackberry, blueberry, plum and briny mineral notes on this unoaked red with soft tannins and fresh acidity for food. This Decanter Best in Show Winner is described as "…a saturated deep purple-black in colour, with ... aromas of warm blackcurrant and black cherry fruits and sweet, fresh plums. On the palate, it is ... a torrent of pure fruit, soft tannins and juicy acidity." This Bordeaux offers a deeply fruity wine thanks to its great portion of Merlot. With a deep purple colour, the nose offers generous notes of blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, mixed with a nice minty freshness. On the palate, it is just as generous: aromas of pure fruit, supple tannins and a juicy and very refreshing acidity. The fact of not having a center axis is limiting the chance of materials which get stuck in the propeller. o By designing our motors we have set the goal to minimize the installation- and service costs for our users. By having just one rotating part we have achieved limited maintenance costs. In addition, there are no wearing parts in our motors and the motors are fully water lubricated. o For operating the motor no oils are required which could potentially damage the environment. Due to its compact and lightweight design it is even possible to install it in the smallest compartments. o The possibility of individual programming allows motor to be tailor-made for the application. To make sure that every boat owner can install our products each product is salt water resistant. In addition to this all motors are classified by a IP68 rating. The other artists accompanying Charles Camoin were Henri Matisse, Maurice de Vlaminck, Manguin, André Derain, and Albert Marquet. Charles Camoin is an important French artist whose work and style is a witness to his time and place. His career evolved from the inspiration of Pierre Auguste Renoir, admiration of Cézanne, and respect for paintings of his peers, maybe most notably Albert Marquet. By 1921, Camoin was sharing time between a studio in Montmartre and one in Saint-Tropez, the latter where he was increasingly spending time while exhibiting in among Paris' finest art dealing galleries, including Charpentier and Bernheim-Jeune, as well as the major salons of his day. After WWll, Camoin rented a studio overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez where he painted this and the following Camoin painting. Sail away Excess 14 ~ $810,575 USD

Welcome back to our channel! In this episode, we take you behind the scenes as Polaris, our beloved sailing yacht, undergoes her winter lift out at Largs Yacht Haven for some essential annual maintenance. Join us as we embark on a week of spa-like treatment for our floating home. As we prepare for the lift out, we encounter a surprising discovery with Polaris' propeller anodes. We address this issue promptly, ensuring the smooth operation and longevity of our propulsion system. Alongside the anode replacement, we perform an oil change to keep our engine in top condition. Maintenance goes beyond the mechanical aspects, and we tackle another challenge—condensation. We share our approach to combatting this persistent issue by insulating the hull under the forward berth and the deck. Using Armaflex self-adhesive closed-cell foam for the hull and YBS SuperQuilt for the deck, we take steps to minimize condensation and enhance onboard comfort. Witness the meticulous hull clean, as we give Polaris a thorough spa treatment, ensuring she is in pristine condition for the upcoming sailing season. We also discuss the importance of regular maintenance and the peace of mind it brings to sailors. Join us as we share our experiences, tips, and tricks for winter maintenance and condensation solutions. Leave your comments and questions below, and don't forget to subscribe to our channel and hit the notification bell to stay updated with our sailing adventures and maintenance insights. We are Kathrin and Daniel. We sail, cruise and live aboard our sailing yacht SV Polaris Helvetica, a Bavaria Cruiser 46 since spriung 2021. We left our native Switzerland and moved to the UK almost two decades ago. In 2021, in our mid 50-ies, after our three boys left the nest we made a big decision. We left the rat race in London behind and made our beloved sailboat our primary floating home. Over the years we have added a few things to Polaris. We got rid of the standard propane gas cooker and replaced it with an electric cooker and oven. We fitted a generator and changed to a lithium (LiFePo) house battery bank. We added a 1'200W solar arch and a water maker. With all these upgrades Polaris is now a comfortable live aboard yacht. We sail her along Britain's beautiful coastline and we live on her summer and winter. Kathrin loves cooking and baking on board. You will see some of her cookery wonders across our episodes. We completely fell in love with our new lifestyle although we had to make some tough decisions. We vacated our rented house in London and sold or gave away all our belongings that had no space on Polaris. What a very liberating feeling to be able to say that all we own is with us on our small sailing boat. There's nothing else to care about. We enjoy our new freedom. We explore new places, discover their history and we love making new friends along our way.

Come on board and join me on my first fail attempt sailing to the island of Sa Dragonera. It all started with a stolen dinghy and continued with more troubles once I set sail. The bilge pump started to operate even though the bilge was quite empty, the wind dropped just to come back stronger a few minutes later and so it made it quite impossible to keep heading. Once in a while one has to admit that a day like this cannot be saved. I headed into a nice secure bay and spent the night there. #bluewatersailing #boatlife #sailingaroundtheworld #sailing #weltumsegelung #blauwassersegeln #dinghy #diysailboat

#sailing #sailinglife #boatlife #voyage #sailingfamily #nightwatch As we leave the islands of Bocas Del Toro, we find 6 dead birds on deck and wonder if it is a bad omen for this passage. But the weather looks good so we go anyway. The first part of this passage is not at all nice , it was a lumpy and confused sea so no one felt that good. We did however, arrive safely in Shelter Bay and started our prep for transiting the panama canal. Music in this video deserves a Thanks to : " Tick Tock" by Josh Woodward. It's finally time to... Well, after sailing the Brazilian cost for over a year we arrived in the Caribbean. This week we sailed from Grenada to Union Island in Saint Vincent and Grenadines and... you need to watch the video to find out, hehe. We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Private Tropical Island haul out | Sailing Malaysia Is this the best Marina in the world? Sailing is presently on hold as we are hauled out at Rebak Island marina in Malaysia, just off the coast of Langkawi. This place has got to be a contender for best Marina in the world. There is a haul out yard with all the usual boat work facilities, complete with jungle backdrop and acrobatic monkeys. A marina with 360 degree protection from the wind but the piece de resistance is that it is all based on a private tropical island alongside the beautiful Rebak Island Resort. As patrons of the marina we are granted full access to the resorts facilities which include a large shoreside swimming pool, a gym, white sand beaches and a complimentary ferry that shuttles you to and from Langkawi throughout the day. We love it here so much that when Rachel got home from England, to celebrate her birthday, we downed tools, suspended boat work and checked into The Rebak Island Resort for a sumptous two nights stay. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #sailing #200 #island paradise #TheCruisingKiwis

Dreams are boundless when they exist only in our minds, that’s what makes them so beautiful. But when they collide with real life, they must conform to the laws of the universe. The reality of keeping a dream alive can be daunting. The litany of details to organize and track, the monotony of boring tasks, the sheer amount of effort involved to accomplish what was a simple thought can dull the luster of even the most vivid dreams. After years of dreaming, scheming and working to get our new boat in the water, one month of sailing went by in a flash. Folding up the trimaran and pulling her back out of the water felt like folding up a dream. Now, with a massive project list in hand, we must put in the effort to keep the dream alive. Join us for a day living on our sailing catamaran, cruising the Caribbean! ⛵️ We wake up in a peaceful anchorage, go snorkeling, and take care of some general boat maintenance. Suddenly, a storm hits, but we weather it out despite being unprepared... We experimented with a new cocktail recipe to use up the last of some produce we had, then made water and did our laundry before having a fun happy hour with friends off the back of the boat. We capped off the day by watching a breathtaking sunset!☀️ ——————————————————————— Check out our Blog! https://www.svsabado.com Follow us on Instagram! @sv_sabado Shop our gear! https://www.amazon.com/shop/hollyandray **As Amazon associates, we earn commission from qualifying purchases** AltE Store (affiliate link) https://www.altestore.com/?afmc=3e Music provided by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/ov4tmg/ #sailing #catamaran #boatlife #liveaboard #lagoon42

You've been waiting, and now it's here. Caulking the hull of this wooden boat. It's not mysterious, but it does take practice, and Arabella's dynamic oak planking edge-set on its inboard edge makes it so we have to be very careful with the amount. If you're able to come this weekend for the hull-fairing (tortureboarding) cookout and work party, RSVP HERE: https://forms.gle/YTrzGRiYR7dmrcCx7 Overcaulked, a wooden boat can break frames or pop planks. It's an extreme result, and not likely to happen, but we're proceeding with caution and good advice from Larry Pardey and Bud McIntosh, as usual. "Details of Boat Construction" and "How to Build a Wooden Boat" came off the book shelf frequently at the start of this build, and still come out from time to time. After caulking, seams are painted with regular topside paint above the waterline in order to protect the cotton, and also to hold it in place. It's driven in there pretty well, but the paint really does help to hold it in place for all our other steps. Thanks to all the volunteers who made bungs and came to bung the boat over a few days. A few thousand went in, and it was quick and efficient. Thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Join us on the adventure of a lifetime as we conquer Cape Horn - one of the world's most treacherous waters! IN this epic sailing journey we navigate through breathtaking scenery and unpredictable elements. From the towering waves to the stunning landscape, our plan to leave Cape Horn to starboard will be an experience like no other. #sailing #reallife #adventure About Us: We are two young racing sailors that decided to leave life on land and accomplish our goals of sailing around the world and learning about and experiencing different cultures. Originally from the Great Lakes, we left Newport Rhode Island in July of 2019 after refitting our boat DIY style. We then sailed to Maine, and from there down the East Coast of the USA, around Cape Hatteras, to the Bahamas, Back to Miami, and then to the Virgin Islands. From there we headed south to Grenada to escape hurricane season, then back up to St. Maarten where we launched our first Atlantic Crossing to Horta, Azores. We made a quick trip back to the USA in July of '21 to defend our Chicago - Mackinac Race overall title, then it was back to cruising the Canaries, where we launched for our second Transatlantic voyage, sailing to Brazil in South America and on to Uruguay. Now we are rounding the tip of South America in the dangerous waters of the Le Maire Straights, where boats are known to be rolled and sunk in the huge waves and dangerous currents flowing up from Antarctica, the Southern Ocean, and around the infamous Cabo de Hornos! Our goal is to sail around the world via Cape Horn, and that is where we are headed now. Capturing footage to share this epic adventure with you as we round the horn and venture into the canals and fjords of Patagonia, Chile. About Our Boat: We have classic sailing yacht, a J Boats J/46. Like the newer J/45, she is a performance cruiser that can get up and go but is also very comfortable offshore in bluewater. She is faster than most similar sized sailing catamarans and lots of fun to sail, you will surely spill your tea at sea though! She is made of fiberglass and sports a nice wood interior and her interior design is a little less like Ikea than a similar sized Beneteau or Lagoon. She sports a high tech sailing electronics package, the best navigation software, and is set up for off the grid living with a watermaker, lithium batteries, and solar panels and a wind generator. We decided to put new gelcoat on the hulls, because the yellowness was really ugly after the white reparations. Never done it, but you got to start somewhere, right? :-) And then we did the antifouling, after which our little boat looked so much better! A glimpse of daily life aboard this 75ft Fishing Boat in the remote coastal waterways of the Pacific Northwest.. 48 hours ago we travelled across the Queen Charlotte Strait on our 30ft floating home navigating thru thick fog and some pretty narrow passages with intense tidal rapids. A two day journey that landed us here in this remote inlet on the Northern coast of British Columbia Canada. Our pals, were heading out on this large commercial fishing vessel and they invited us to come along with them.. we couldn't pass up a unique opportunity to buddy boat with a 75ft fishing vessel in the middle of nowhere. Captain Richard, welcomed us aboard like one of his own crew, and we were about to learn all about the experience of daily life aboard a fishin' boat. We acknowledge the Kwakwaka'wakw people, the original caretakers and stewards of the lands and waterways on which this film was created, on the unceded territory of the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw First Nations. DIY Sway Bar Link Repair: Smooth Driving Ahead! If you're tired of feeling like you're on a rollercoaster every time you hit a bump in the road, it may be time to take matters into your own hands. Sway bar links are an essential component of your vehicle's suspension system, and if they become loose or damaged, it can seriously affect your ride quality. But fear not, intrepid DIY-er, because with a bit of elbow grease and some basic tools, you can easily repair your sway bar links for a smoother driving experience. Get Your Sway Bar Here To Help Support Our Content: https://amzn.to/3Najbq1 Don't Let a Wobbly Link Ruin Your Ride So, what exactly is a sway bar link, and why is it so important? Essentially, the sway bar (also known as a stabilizer bar) is a metal rod that connects the suspension on either side of your vehicle. The sway bar link is a small piece that connects the sway bar to the suspension itself. This is what keeps your car from swaying too much in turns or over bumps, and helps to distribute weight evenly across all four wheels. If a sway bar link is loose or damaged, you may notice clunking or rattling noises when you go over bumps, and your car may feel wobbly or unstable when turning. Get Your Hands Dirty with this Sway Bar Fix! First things first, you'll need to locate your sway bar links. These are usually located near the bottom of your vehicle, just behind the front wheels. You'll need to jack up the front of your car and remove the wheels to access them. Once you've located the sway bar links, you'll need to inspect them for damage or wear. If they're just loose, you may be able to tighten them up with a socket wrench. If they're damaged, you'll need to replace them. To replace a sway bar link, you'll need to remove the old one by loosening the nuts on either end with a socket wrench. Then, simply slide the old link out and insert the new one in its place. Tighten the nuts on either end and you're good to go! Make sure to repeat the process on both sides of your vehicle for optimal stability. With this simple DIY repair, you can ensure that your car stays stable and comfortable on the road. Just remember to always use caution when working on your vehicle, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Happy wrenching! Welcome back to our channel, where we continue our quest to enhance the functionality and efficiency of our beloved sailing yacht, Polaris. In this episode, we tackle a common challenge faced by sailors - cleaning the anchor chain and washing down the deck after anchoring in muddy grounds. We found a solution that has revolutionised our cleaning process: installing a powerful electric wash-down pump, fed by seawater. Join us as we share the step-by-step process of installing the washdown pump on Polaris, our reliable Bavaria Cruiser 46 (2017). We provide detailed explanations, tips, and insights to help fellow sailors who may be facing the same issue or looking to upgrade their deck cleaning system. After careful planning and consideration, we selected the Jabsco Hotshot HD6 Washdown Pump as our go-to choice for its power and reliability. Alongside the pump, we utilised a range of essential parts, including the Osculati Washdown Deck Connector, Hep2o high-pressure tube and fittings, 19mm sanitation hose, Truedesign y-piece, and various clips and connectors to ensure a secure and efficient installation. We walk you through the installation process, from mounting the pump in a convenient location to connecting the necessary hoses and fittings. Our experience and expertise make the installation relatively straightforward, and the end result is both pleasing and highly effective. With the new electric washdown pump in place, we demonstrate how effortlessly and efficiently we can now clean the anchor chain and wash down the deck, saving valuable time and effort. No more struggling with buckets and brushes – just a powerful stream of seawater to handle even the toughest cleaning tasks. As always, we strive to provide valuable information and inspiration to fellow sailors and boat enthusiasts. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or a novice looking to improve your onboard systems, this video offers practical insights and guidance to help you upgrade your own deck cleaning setup. Don't forget to leave a comment and share your thoughts or any questions you may have about the installation process. If you find this video helpful, please give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing to our channel for more informative content. Thank you for joining us on this journey of boat improvements and practical solutions. We are Kathrin and Daniel. We sail, cruise and live aboard our sailing yacht SV Polaris Helvetica, a 14m Bavaria Cruiser 46 from 2017.
