#panamacanal #panama #sailing #amelyacht #sailingpanama #sailboatliving We finally transit the Panama canal. This is a big moment for us as we pass from the Atlantic , Caribbean side into the Pacific. It feels like a big step and there is no turning back now. We share the process of transiting the canal when you use an agent . From when they get on your boat to the directions you are given for pre departure and what it is like to have a pilot aboard as you actually transit the canal. You also need line handlers and we were lucky to have 4 of our lovely patrons to help and experience this with us. We finally got our new dinghy! We got to explore a little bit of life at anchor in Grenada and we sailed to Carriacou for the first time, but things didn't go as planned... Our new dinghy's anchor: Mantus Anchor M1 https://amzn.to/3IheoQn Check out highfieldnorthamerica.com if you are in search of a dinghy, they have a wide variety to choose from! We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Lost boys at crazy Patong beach - Sailing Thailand We sailed our live aboard sailing catamaran to Thailand's largest island Phuket, famous for it's beaches, vibrant nightlife, seafood and big budda. After checking in and a tasty Pad Thai lunch at the side of the road, we hired scooters, our favourite mode of transport while sailing South East Asia and drove across the island, following google maps to what we hoped would be an elephant sanctuary. Instead, however, google maps had directed us to the notorious Patong Beach, home to the bright lights and seedy bars of crazy Bangla Road. Even our sailing teenagers felt scarred by the whole affair. Maybe it was watching Rob eat a fried scorpion though!? We also remembered Rob's brother Kerry and his girlfriend Gail who visited Patong beach many years ago, before it became a tourist Mecca. Kerry may have sent us a little sign to let us know he's watching us. Many apologies for the bad audio in this episode. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #203 #Phuket #Bangla #TheCruisingKiwis
Episode 032 Well, I think the title says it all. If we were to wait for favourable downwind sailing conditions, we would never sail anywhere in New Zealand! We've been told that our sailboat Tāiko was designed for upwind (winward) sailing and she sure is good at it. However, not all of us enjoy upwind sailing, especially in strong winds but we'll get there! The important thing to to remember though is that there is always a beautiful anchorage waiting for us at the end. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel

Summer is here, and so is the unbearable heat. If you're lucky enough to have an air conditioning unit, now is the time to give it some love and attention. Your AC is your best friend during these scorching months, and you don't want it to let you down when you need it the most. So, let's shine up your AC and beat the heat! ## Got AC? Here's how to make it shine! First things first, let's start with the exterior. Your AC is exposed to dust, dirt, and all sorts of debris, so it's bound to get dirty. That's why it's important to clean it regularly. Start by wiping the outside of the unit with a damp cloth. If you see any rust, use a wire brush to scrub it off. Don't forget to remove any leaves or branches that might be stuck in the fins. Now, let's move onto the interior. The most critical part of your AC is the air filter. A dirty air filter not only affects the efficiency of your unit but also the quality of the air you breathe. It's recommended to replace or clean the filter every two to three months. If you have pets or allergies, you might want to do it more often. Check your owner's manual for instructions on how to access and replace the filter. Lastly, if you want to go the extra mile, you can give your AC a tune-up. Hire a professional technician to inspect your unit, clean the coils, check the refrigerant levels, and make sure everything is in working order. You'll save money in the long run by preventing costly repairs and prolonging the life of your AC. ## Don't let the heat get to you - clean your AC! If you neglect your AC, it will neglect you. A dirty unit will struggle to keep up with demand, resulting in higher energy bills and less comfort. Plus, a poorly maintained AC can lead to health problems such as allergies, respiratory issues, and even carbon monoxide poisoning. Cleaning your AC is not only about appearance but also about functionality and safety. So, don't wait until it's too late. Take care of your AC, and it will take care of you. In conclusion, your AC is your best friend during the hot summer months. Don't let it down by neglecting its maintenance. Follow these simple steps to shine up your AC and beat the heat. And don't forget to give it some love and attention throughout the year. Your AC will thank you, and so will your wallet and your health. 📢 Our Website: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/ 📢 See Our Recipes: https://www.dininginwithdanielle.com Tools In The Garage: 🛠 Milwaukee 18-Volt Drill and Impact Driver Kit https://amzn.to/366BwxM 🛠 Husky Mechanics Tool Set https://amzn.to/3kuGUzD 🛠 Angle Grinder https://amzn.to/36FaC09 🛠 Forney Easy Weld Welder https://amzn.to/3romDR1 🛠 Welding Helmet https://amzn.to/3wOq58z What We Us In The Kitchen: 🍽 KitchenAid https://amzn.to/3x0T8JY 🍽 Roasting Pans https://amzn.to/3jahTLq 🍽 Cooking Sheet https://amzn.to/3JcEa5O 🍽 Kitchen Utensils Set https://amzn.to/3Kg9xOg 🍽Cutting Boards https://amzn.to/3KhzdKw 🍽 Kitchen Knives https://amzn.to/36USV0d 🍽 Kitchen Oven Safe Pans https://amzn.to/3DGkfuY 💎 Have a Website? Every sailboat needs new standing rigging at some stage. Mine was over 20 years old so I decided to do most of the work myself. In this video I go through the whole job and show you how I went about this very important job. You shouldn't be scared of this as its not rocket science, anyone who isn't afraid to go up their mast can do this. I also go over what the whole job ended up costing me. Hope you enjoy this one. ⚓️Join our CREW⚓️ If you enjoy our videos and appreciate the effort that goes into making them then perhaps you would be interested in supporting their production. For those of you really paying attention, there are actually 6 Ryobi Hand Tools featured in this video, not 5. One of the Tools no longer exists on Ryobi's lineup, and 2 others, the Ryobi Glue gun, and the Ryobi 18v Soldering Iron, have very few moving parts, and so I've left the count at 5. It makes the thumbnail more attractive too. All of this is not an ad for Ryobi. I've received no money and no free tools from them, which is a real shame, because they probably should be giving me free stuff! If you order from any of these links I will receive a small commission! Which would be swell. Welcome back to our channel as we kick off Season 2 of our sailing adventure! After a long and productive winter at Largs Yacht Haven, where we undertook boat upgrades and comprehensive maintenance works, we are thrilled to slip the lines and set sail once again. In this episode, join us on our shakedown trip from Largs to Campbeltown as we embark on an exciting journey to the north. As we venture out, we encounter a mix of weather conditions that test our skills and adaptability. From light and strong winds to confused waves and rain, we navigate through the elements, always ready for whatever the sea throws at us. Anchoring brings an unexpected wind shift, challenging us to make quick adjustments and ensuring our safety and comfort. Amidst the voyage, we take the opportunity to explore Davaar Island and its magnificent seven caves, a true hidden gem awaiting our discovery. The shakedown trip allows us to fine-tune our sailing techniques, check the performance of our boat upgrades, and reacquaint ourselves with the rhythm of life at sea. Join us as we embrace the joy of sailing, share our encounters with the elements, and explore the wonders of Davaar Island's caves. Don't forget to leave your comments and questions below, and if you haven't already, subscribe to our channel and hit the notification bell to stay updated with our Season 2 adventures. We are Kathrin and Daniel. We sail, cruise and live aboard our sailing yacht SV Polaris Helvetica, a Bavaria Cruiser 46 since spriung 2021. We left our native Switzerland and moved to the UK almost two decades ago. In 2021, in our mid 50-ies, after our three boys left the nest we made a big decision. We left the rat race in London behind and made our beloved Polaris our primary floating home. Over the years we have added many upgrades to Polaris. We got rid of the standard propane gas cooker and replaced it with an electric cooker and oven. We fitted a generator and changed to a lithium (LiFePo) house battery bank. We added a 1'200W solar arch and a water maker. We added an inner forestay for a working jib and a storm sail. With all these upgrades Polaris is now a comfortable live aboard yacht. We sail her along Scotland's beautiful coastline and we live on her summer and winter. Kathrin loves cooking and baking on board. You will see some of her cookery wonders across our episodes. We completely fell in love with our new lifestyle although we had to make some tough decisions. We vacated our rented house in London and sold or gave away all our belongings that had no space on Polaris. What a very liberating feeling to be able to say that all we own is with us on our small sailing boat. There's nothing else to care about. We enjoy our new freedom. We explore new places, discover their history and we love making new friends along our way.
So... This time we launch Sedna and put the masts on deck. We head for the river, but we hit the rocks and get spooked by a transport strike. This is the ninth episode of the third season of "She rules the waves", a series about the adventures, the upgrades, the maintenance of the perfect live aboard sailboat for a sailing musician. So we had this crazy idea. We are on the move again, ready for our next adventure aboard our sailing catamaran. Join us as we escape to one of South East Asia's most celebrated cruising destinations and a perfect place for island hopping in the Andaman Sea - Thailand. Cliiffs, caves, wind for kite boarding, white sand beaches and and abundance of coral and marine life. First stop is Thailand's southern most island Koh Lipe a mere hop, skip and a jump across the boarder from Langkawi, where we have the dilemma of keeping our boys away from the cannabis cafe's that are legal and plentiful here. I prey the only high's the boys get while in Thailand come from kite surfing. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #202 #sailing #Thailand

STEAM. Yup, we steam this whole wooden boat for about a week, stoking the fire each day in preparation for the torture boarding. Satchel makes progress on the 12-volt marine electrical system. We test the fresh water tanks that are fed by the watermaker, and Kyle, who is doing all things fluid-related, explains a few things about the boat plumbing. Steve talks more about the base for the main sheet traveler, which when rigged, will be where the main sail is controlled from. Scott's beautiful cherry wood grab rails give a finished look to the saloon. More holes are sawn into the deck, this time for dorade vents and anchor chain inlets from the anchor windlass. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. I have had to replace the heating element a couple of times on my boat. It is an easy job and you should schedule this into your maintenance plan. The video is unfortunately not comprehensive but I thought I would post it to help anyone who is going through the process. It is an easy job so crack on and just do it. If you are removing the whole tank to clean it out, you will also need to disconnect the coolant pipes. This is a bit more challenging and you will need to refer to your engine owners manual too. When you have coolant loss in the system, you can end up with air-pockets in the pipework and these can be difficult to remove. Make sure you buy the right element for either 110V or 220V. When replacing the element, take care to not over tighten it as you can damage the rubber seal. I suggest ordering a couple of spare seals / o-rings as backup.

A truly exceptional example of this well-regarded, capable and sought-after Briand-designed fast cruiser. In ownership of the same family since new and lovingly maintained by a shore-based Captain who is an expert in the Bordeaux 60. Recommended without hesitation. NOTABLE FEATURES • Unusually low usage for such a capable yacht, she has not left the Med since delivery, her log shows less than 12,000 nautical miles, 1500 engine hours run and just over 1000 generator hours usage all of which is documented • Tremendous attention to detail throughout by a truly fastidious owner • Truly remarkable condition, outstanding maintenance • Electric all-furling rig – no need to leave the cockpit • Centre-line owners’ berth is spacious and has access from both sides • A unique and custom-built interior based on the 100 foot CNB “CHRISCO” • Full air conditioning and majority of factory options were chosen • Detailed log showing history from delivery in 2011 • Upgraded 2,45 metre lead keel • High spec and inventory including teak on the coachroof and grey caulking • Excellent sail wardrobe • Extensive general inventory included • Good RIB with well-arranged stowage and handling To see all our listings: www.aberyyachts.com

This means Irenka needs to get the kids off on a 3 day schooling field trip with Carlos to learn about the previous military base that was situated here as well to learn about the natural history of the area and the building of the Panama canal. For years we have dreamed of arriving the Caribbean with our own sailboat, just like we've read in many books. The problem is that many times in life when we dream of something for so long we create our own reality and when the dream comes through it's often a lot less exciting than we'd have imagined. Well, this was not the case. I think all the books underestimated the beautiful color of the Caribbean water. I don't think I will ever get used to it. This week we explored Saint Vincent and Granadines in the Caribbean, the beautiful island well know for its kitesurf called Frigate and we sailed to Tobago Keys, that's like an aquarium. We also had a great sail back to Grenada. Well, this video is not just about the places we visited, but it's also about what we felt about all these places and people we met. Friends in this episode: @TaylorsTravels @kiki_terrels (insta) future youtube channel: Kricket's Creations https://www.youtube.com/@kricketscreations7230 Good explanation about the vulcano situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce3y7sT1tXk&t=115s Filmed in: January 2022 We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. Getting sh*t done in tropical paradise I sailing Malaysia That's right! It is 'get sh*t done' boat work time at Rebak Island resort and marina, a little slice of sailing paradise near Langkawi, Malaysia. This week we complete our rudder mount rebuild with some much needed team work from our sailing teenager Ivan, who has been a great asset, working hard getting that last coat of anti-foul on the boat. Unfortunately Ivan's partner in crime, Ollie, has flown home to reunite with his sailing family. We also do a global catch up with the rest of team Hamill around the globe. With exciting news from both Declan and Finn respectively. Team work makes the dream work. NEWS FLASH - The boys have just started their own YouTube channel. We need to install our new anchor, chain and gypsy, provision and prep food, do some engine maintenance, the remainder of Yoda’s tests and treatments, amongst many other jobs. Join us to see what it takes to provision and prepare a boat to sail across the Pacific Ocean! Thanks so much for joining us this week! We're a small family living aboard our catamaran, Wanderlust, sailing to Harbors Unknown. Exploring the world, connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how great food can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. Seeking to balance the desire to explore and travel to beautiful, remote locations while leaving no footprint, minimizing the Hawthorne effect of the observers who change the environment she or he observes. We hope to inspire people and showcase the possibility of living an alternative lifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment, all while keeping it real. Sharing the trials and tribulations of living off-grid, acknowledging the discomfort of detoxing from the modern world, finding pleasure in the subtleties of nature and joy in simplicity. Attempting to understand what makes the world tick and tock but also trying to gain a deeper comprehension of ourselves and identify what will satisfy that hunger for further exploration, for purpose. We have set off on our voyage sailing around the world! Subscribe now to join our sailing adventure. Have you watched our videos in Panama? Episode 031 Deep Water Cove – we guess the clue is in the name! No kidding, it is deep and what does Adam do…well goes snorkeling of course! We are in awe of this place. We have sailed to this place a couple of times over summer and each time we’ve seen something special. The first time we had dolphins visit us for over 2 hours as they hunted for food and put on a display. The second time, we were visited by a manta ray who swam around for a few hours. Deep Water Cove is the last anchorage before Cape Brett on the Bay of Islands side and is open to the ocean so it’s no surprise the treasures of the ocean visit here. It’s also a place where you can do the walk to the Cape Brett lighthouse (which we attempted but alas it was too hard!). Alongside its natural beauty, what makes this place even more special is the rāhui (prohibition) that was placed in 2010 (and continues today) due to depleting fish stocks so you can’t fish or take any aquatic life or seaweed from this anchorage. The result of this rāhui speaks for itself as you will see during Adam’s snorkeling adventure and what can be achieved when we allow regeneration to occur, making Deep Water Cove a true little New Zealand paradise. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song.
