Jump on board with us with extra content AND ad-free videos ~ Support our Production?patreon.com/SailingMaalie Exploring the Canary Islands by boat, the best way to discover the hidden corners of this archipelago! The trade winds remain consistent and we are treated to fantastic sailing, making our way down past volcanoes to Gran Canaria. In this episode, I get the chance to introduce our home-built Hebridean Wind Vane self-steering kit, as it steers our home across the Atlantic Ocean. Hopefully this inspires some new builders somewhere in the world (ships internationally!) - thanks so much for watching! Jump on board with us with extra content AND ad-free videos ~ Support our Production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie After a long descent of western Europe, we are now well placed to push off in to the Atlantic Ocean and head for the first stepping stone on this route. There is a good forecast of trade-winds and we get to properly test our downwind setup, whilst watching the miles fly by down the coast of Africa. This is a very exciting journey for us, our biggest passage yet and I have intentionally left out music during footage of sailing where normally it is tempting to place, to try and recreate the atmosphere of being offshore. Jump on board with us with extra content AND ad-free videos ~ Support our Production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie We have just sailed down from Norway to western Europe, on our wee ship. In this episode - big autumn winds arrive on the Portuguese coast, and we spend a long night on anchor watch with 40 knots of breeze. We get to know a Contessa 32, and head to sea together for the last leg of our descent of Europe. After two big storms have blown through, the Atlantic swell is still steep and imposing, making for some spicy sailing! The deep and turbulent waters of Portugal play host to some amazing wildlife, which we were lucky enough to see! This was an epic adventure of two classic boats on the high seas, lots of fun editing it together. We hope you enjoy this episode and learn the lessons that we did, let us know your thoughts in the comments. Thanks for tuning in, hit LIKE & SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed this adventure! Jump on board with us with extra content AND ad-free videos ~ Support our Production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie In this episode we anchor in the immense River Duoro and explore the meandering city of Porto. We also make lots of southing towards our launch point into the Atlantic, as our descent through western Europe comes to a close. We continue to fish whilst we sail, although we have mixed results along the way, lessons learned.. AND THE WIND IS BACK! Finally we get to sail again, and it feels so good! Big rolling swells, hidden fishing nets and unmarked buoys make it a challenging passage, and the chance of an encounter with the Iberian Orca at every turn. We also meet an exiled Bottlenose Dolphin who proves to be very confused..! We hope you enjoy this video and that it helps any sailors who are making the same passage in the future. Jump on board with us with extra content AND ad-free videos ~ Support our Production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie In preparation for crossing the Atlantic Ocean, we venture across the Bay of Biscay to make our way down the coast of western Europe. As we head into autumn our weather windows are shorter, and the next big low-pressure system is just around the corner. This was our first proper bluewater experience with thousands of metres of water under the keel, and consistent ocean swells. Accompanied by the milky way, bioluminescent algae and quarte quart, we run in to some good wind and sail fast towards Spain. We hope you enjoy this video and learn something from our first crossing of the notorious Bay of Biscay! Thanks for tuning in, hit LIKE & SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed this adventure! Jump on board with us with lots of extra content ~ and support our production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie Final preparations before our first ocean voyage! In this episode we are becalmed in northern France, so take the opportunity to haul out Maalie and clean the hull. Whilst we have the opportunity we tend to some vital maintenance by re-packing the stuffing box, and finally replacing the Jabsco water pump on the engine. Solène's mum joined us and lent a hand with a paintbrush, whilst we intently watch the weather forecast for a window to cross the Bay of Biscay. Jump on board with us with lots of extra content ~ and support our production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie Big blue SUPERMOON tides generate fierce currents along the Brittany coastline, and make for some spicy passage making aboard SV Maalie. After crossing the English Channel and cruising the Isle of Sark, we bump in to a shoal of Bluefin Tuna - an extraordinary experience from a small boat. We position ourselves for a passage through the notorious Chenal du Four and Raz de Sein, and get some amazing views of Le Phare du Four! Jump on board with us with lots of extra content ~ and support our production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie We encountered HUGE standing waves in the UK Channel Isles, and made a fast passage to the Isle of Sark. The fishing here was excellent and we easily filled the fridge with sustainably caught, fresh fish. Solène cooked up a stonking Thai green curry with chunks of fish - absolutely delicious! Exploring the medieval Isle of Sark was a real treat, like stepping back in time a couple of centuries, with horse and carts on dirt roads. Jump on board with us with extra content AND ad-free videos ~ Support our Production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie Jump on board with us as we embark on an Atlantic adventure, commencing in Shetland, in the North Sea. In this episode, we navigate our way through the madness of the Solent in summer, visiting secluded anchorages and a nature reserve. It truly feels like we have sailed into the mecca of sailing, passing hundreds and hundreds of boats of all shapes and sizes. A great opportunity arose to practice boat handling under sail, as we choose a spot to anchor. Lots of sailing in this episode, and some rather uncomfortable and nerve-wracking navigation in some snotty weather. Thanks for tuning in, hit LIKE & SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed this adventure! Jump on board with us with extra content AND ad-free videos ~ Support our Production?https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie After crossing the North Sea from Norway, we make our way to the south coast of the UK. Lots of challenging sailing against the prevailing winds and strong tidal currents from Scotland to England, then we were stormbound as a big low pressure went through the English Channel. Maalie took some damage after bashing against a pontoon in Ramsgate for a couple of days, no time to hang about though as we head for the south coast!
