How to install a DIY watermaker: https://youtu.be/BOdRNNPina0 ***Update 2024/01/12*** It's been over four years since we installed our watermaker. It has been performing flawlessly ever since and has afforded us some well-needed and appreciated self-sufficiency throughout the Mediterannean (where marinas are super expensive), through ocean crossings (yeay for showers) and through covid lockdowns (where we had zero possibility to get water otherwise). We added a control panel in our galley which has been incredibly practical and have upgraded the membrane to the latest SeaWater Pro one. We've been buying filters and parts in hardware stores all over the World (way easier than having to order proprietary parts) and we produce 19-20 gallons (70-75 liters) of fresh water per hour. If you would like to acquire a SeaWater Pro system like ours, consider using our affiliate link which allows us to receive a small commission on purchases made through it, at no extra cost to you! Check out SeaWater Pro watermakers: https://seawaterpro.com?sca_ref=1318773.3ThbpgMEbt Our kit: https://seawaterpro.com/products/110-220-volt-1-membrane-water-maker-system?sca_ref=1318773.3ThbpgMEbt ******** April 2019: We’ve known for a long time that we wanted a watermaker, but we simply did not have the budget to make it happen. That was before one of you guys, tipped us off on how to make your own watermaker. So we’ve done our research, and started to realize that a watermaker was in reach, a lot more than we thought. So in this video, Ryan explains how to make water on a sailboat, how a watermaker works, what are the different parts of a watermaker and what their role is, and how to operate it. We then go through different watermaker alternatives: off-the-shelf, (such as Spectra, Eco-tech or Rainman) and “Do it yourself”, while listing their respective pros and cons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** JOIN THE CREW! ** Join our virtual crew of Patrons at: https://www.patreon.com/ryanandsophiesailing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ⚡ Get 10% OFF Dakota Lithium batteries with code RYANANDSOPHIE sitewide, on all orders at: https://bit.ly/43C4ulL ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). Inventory Of Missing Parts For Mercruiser that the mechanic lost. This is turning out to be more challenging and expensive than we thought it would. It is like they take a part, then type marine on the front of it, then double the cost. Also, there are many flavors of this 3.0L engine to choose from in our boat. We have been calling many vendors on this and you really need to shop around when working on a boat. The same part from one vendor could be double the cost of another vendor, but don't stick with just one vendor. The vendor that was such a deal on on part for your boat, is now double the cost of another part. Now that that is said you also have to watch shipping, boat vendors seem to love to get you on shipping, some will offer free shipping, then you have to get to a certain dollar amount. Guess we are all a little spoiled by Amazon and there shipping, and if you want to help us out, use our Amazon link below, helps us at no cost to you. Repairing our Box Eye Hook on our boat was a priority, would hate our boat to slide off the trailer going down the road. Doing this on your boat may leave you feeling like a pretzel trying to squeeze your hands between the bow and seat. Once done with this boat project our bow eye hook wasn't going anywhere. Your boat may be easier or harder but this is a must to protect your water toy from road rash. I have seen boats come off their trailer going down the road and it isn't pretty. The damage to the hull and stern drive would end costing you big, and this is such a cheap fix. We return to our life on the boat in Spain and do our bit for the VHF cruisers net before we even managed to unpack. After struggling to be healthy through "dry January", we go on a road trip around Andalucia in Spain. The VHF net is a great way to connect with your local boat community and a good way to help fellow cruisers out as well as benefitting yourself. Our first stop on our road trip was El Torcal in Antequera, an area of strange shaped limestone rocks that were previously covered by water and then rose up due to disruption o the seabed and then the wind and rain eroded them away to form these shapes. We did a fourty five minute walk around the rocks. We stayed the night in an interesting mountain hotel full of stuffed animal heads. The next day we drove to Ronda where we admired the Puente Nuevo 'New bridge' and then visited the largest Bullring in the world ( measured by the 'rueda' - ring and not the amount of people that can be seated ) The children absorbed the information and found ways to understand and relive the experience. How we touched up the paint on this Lincoln LS. The paint on this car had a bunch of paint dings and after we touched it up from about 5 foot you could no longer see the paint chips. In this episode; Placencia and the nearest town of Seine Bight are worth a day of exploring so we rent a golf cart and go have a look, sharing highlights of what we saw. We love meeting and getting to know the locals. Then we set sail for Sapodilla Lagoon to tuck away from the coming weather. It's a day's sail North up the coast of Belize and we enjoy a brisk sail before arriving in the calm anchorage, and we meet up with an unfriendly catamaran, someone that (judging by his yelling) seems to have had a really miserable day... Sorry to our fans. YouTube has given us the following; “Comments on your channel are disabled due to the risk of inappropriate comments and cannot be re-enabled at this time.” Update;03/20/2019 - Now it seems all of our old comments are un-viewable! As more information from YouTube comes along we will do our best to share and update you our fans. If you still would like to comment or communicate with us, visit our website wwwtriotravels.ca our our Facebook page “Trio Travels” This is a frustrating “Big Brother” situation but there seems to be little we can change. We welcome KC and Lisa aboard Saltair3 to share the experience of learning to sail a Big Cat and what it's really like living a life on the Sea. A week long adventure of learning to sail, getting a taste of what it’s like living on a catamaran in the Caribbean, how we make our power and our water, and how we provision and cook in a catamaran's galley, some diesel maintenance, tips tricks and so much more… all while exploring the amazing Belizean Barrier Reef with us! We had a great time, made some great friends and shared our lives a step past our videos... They came as strangers to us and left as great friends, although they had a pretty good idea of who we are before the came Lol! This video shares some of the highlights of their trip… I hope it doesn’t feel like an advertisement, it wasn’t made in that fashion. Simply an opportunity to share with the world more of the adventure, and that’s what we are all about… You too can spend an all inclusive week with us aboard our catamaran Saltair3 learning how to live a life on the sea, how to prepare, repair, provision, catch fish and lobster, how to navigate to and safely check into foreign countries, all the while learning to sail a Big Cat, or just sit back, relax and enjoy being aboard Saltair3 in the warm and beautiful Caribbean Sea... Living on a sailboat we often have to battle no-see-ums, often called biting gnats, biting midges, midgies, punkies, black gnats, devil flies, and the list goes on. No matter what you call them I think we all can agree they suck! Although, not great fliers when they do land on you their tiny little bites hurt and can itch for days! This video will show you what my family uses to keep them at bay and they are easy recipes you can make at home! We install our boat rub rail with rivets and cleaning it up. The rub rail on our boat was very weathered and hanging in some places where it had pulled loose. After getting the rust screws out that were used to fix the Boat bummer trim in places, the installation went very well. Here we are going to go over how we rivet the old boat rub rail back in place. The hardest part of this boat project was stretching the old rub rail back in place. Then we go over how we installed the rub rail cover once the rivets were all in. I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

With spring here it is time to get that mower ready for summer, plus cutting the grass over and over again because of dull blades sucks. Also new blades all the time can get very costly, the blades have plenty of metal to sharpen, just like your knives, you wouldn't just throw them out cause they are dull. If you like the grinder I used, go here. Review: https://youtu.be/NmcUi1irpyo Link to Hitachi store on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2nRs6Qv For the GreenWorks mower I use, go here. Red Potatoes with Sweet Gherkin Pickles and Dijon Mustard Create Delicious Flavors All Marinated Together For Our Family Favorite Potato Salad! Potato Salad is one of those perfect sides for Parties, Cookouts or just whipping it up to go with dinner! Our Red Potato Salad was created over 4 years ago and perfected each time until it was a Family Favorite! After several fails of Mushy Potatoes, we started Boiling the Potatoes WHOLE with the Red Skins on. This was a game changer! We also stopped using Mayonnaise because of the ingredients that are in it. That's where we discovered that Greek Yogurt and Sour Cream with Dijon Mustard was the perfect combination we were looking for! The added Sweet Gherkins Pickles just tops this off with some sweetness!  Make This Recipe! https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/sweet-dijon-red-potato-salad/ Before doing anything related to things we do read here: Disclaimer: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/disclaimer/ Privacy Policy: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/privacy-policy/ Terms Of Use: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/terms-of-use/ You can also follow us on our blog: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/ Or go directly to cooking: https://www.dininginwithdanielle.com If you have a request, please see our blog and go to contact. https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/contact-us/ Current Video & Blog Productions: Florida Landscapes Explore Florida Recipes with Danielle DIY and HowTo Reviews YouTube Playlist Explore Florida: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/y_explore_florida Equipment: All videos are edited with Sony VEGAS Pro https://amzn.to/2GrzE77 Our video studio does have a green screen with umbrella lighting https://amzn.to/2BVIlpq All recording equipment is Sony and our main camera is the HDR-CX675 offering servo steadied filming and 5.1 sound. https://amzn.to/2BlJxQb Affiliate Links: - Shop Amazon at no cost to you, and helps our channel: https://amzn.to/2SMfsjS - Shop Target at no cost to you, and helps our channel: https://goto.target.com/xkbJ1 - Easy low-cost Financial Investing: Acorns Investment - https://www.acorns.com/invite?code=ach8rs - Best Blog Hosting: https://www.bluehost.com/?utm_source=www.chrisdoeswhat.com&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=affiliate-link_chrisdoeswhat_notype Music: Intro/Outro: Elliot Berger - The Nameless #chrisdoeswhat #dininginwithdanielle #homaidchef

Awhile back we decided we wanted to use the v-berth solely as storage, however that soon proved to be a mistake. Although sleeping on the main salon pull-out settee worked for a while, It was very inconvenient to not have a dedicated sleeping area on the boat and when we redid the cushions, the sleeping situation became very uncomfortable. Left with the options to either redo the salon cushions, or make progress towards converting back the v-berth from storage, we chose the latter. With Randi working full time for a while now, I'm back to working full time on boat projects. I'm going to be doing tons of work on this boat in the coming months, so stay tuned for a lot of DIY boat work! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. The engine like on our 2004 Lincoln LS went off after doing this simple repair to EGR Valve on our car. Most engine lights I have seen seem to be related to emissions and some can be a challenge to fix. If you don't have a code reader you can rest the ECU by removing power to the car. We took the car to Advance Auto Parts to read the error code, if you want you own ECU reader I would look here on Amazon. What is an EGR valve, and how does it work? “EGR” stands for exhaust gas recirculation. When engine combustion temperatures near 2500°F, the formation of smog-producing nitrogen oxides (NOx) increases. Exhaust, however, is mostly composed of carbon dioxide (CO2), which does not burn. The function of the EGR valve is to recirculate small amounts of exhaust back into the combustion chambers of the engine in order to decrease the combustion temperature, thereby reducing the formation of smog-producing nitrogen oxides. EGR valves can malfunction by becoming stuck open or closed due to carbon buildup. When an EGR valve malfunctions CO2 is reintroduced to the combustion chamber at the incorrect time or in incorrect amounts, which does not decrease the combustion temperature sufficiently enough to prevent the increase of NOx. When does an EGR valve need to be replaced? Symptoms of a malfunctioning EGR valve include: Check Engine Light is on Pinging and/or knocking sounds Rough idle Reduced power Reduced fuel economy Engine stalling/hesitation when accelerating Tools + Parts Checklist: EGR Valve "If Cleaning Does Not Work" Diagnostic Tool "Parts stores may test your car" Socket Set + Ratchet Wrenches "Cresent Wrench" How To Replace EGR Valve: Put the vehicle in park and apply the emergency brake. Consult your owner’s/repair manual to locate the EGR valve. Turn off the engine and disconnect the battery. Inspect all vacuum lines for rips, tears, and holes. Replace as necessary. Remove the vacuum line from the EGR valve. Remove the bolts that hold the EGR valve to the cylinder head. Remove the EGR valve. Be careful to protect the open cylinder head from any debris. Bolt on the new EGR valve and attach the vacuum line. Reconnect the battery. "If Cleaning Does Not Work" Start the car and use the diagnostic tool to check for any codes and reset the check engine light. "Can Rest By Removing Power To Car" Do a test drive to ensure the engine is running and idling smoothly. #chrisdoeswhat #dininginwithdanielle #homaidchef

After flying our gennaker we decide to go anchoring in Lake Erie once again. We find the perfect anchorage next to Welland Canal in Gravely Bay. We dinghy to the breakwall and walk around. Unfortunately, the rainy fall weather brings some not so nice surprises and forces us to do more boat projects like rebedding of leaky portlights and chainplates. And we enjoy a fun evening sail while fishing on Lake Erie. 0:29 Replacing our old air filter 0:49 Flying our gennaker 1:25 Anchoring in Lake Erie 4:44 Storm at Sugarloaf marina 6:31 Good news 7:18 Fixing our JABSCO marine head 8:11 Saying goodbye to Tom a good friend of ours 8:58 More sailboat projects 10:32 Rebedding chainplates 11:25 Rebedding portlights 13:59 Sunset fishing on Lake Erie If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up! #wildlyintrepidsailing #anchoringinLakeErie #liveaboardsailboat ***************************************** Help the videos stay alive by becoming a patron or donating. All of our sailboat repair and maintenance blogs are now hosted on our dedicated maintenance channel, MOTHERSHIP MAINTENANCE Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/c/mothershipmaintenance An edited version of this video is now hosted there. Fixing the bonding strap in our grey water bilge was the filthiest and most complicated boat maintenance job so far. Amel yachts have unique design features so it's not exactly typical DIY #sailboat #maintenance work.. we even had to custom make most of the tools ourselves. We're just thankful we brought our cordless powertools onboard with us. PLEASE NOTE: YouTube have disabled comments on family channels because they sometimes feature kids.

Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** The spinnaker came out to help us sail (and race!) in the light airs over to Pasar Wajo on Buton Island. While it was one of our slowest sails ever, I was just thrilled that we managed not to rip the spinnaker... again! Pasar Wajo was going to be a big rally stop as we were invited to the Festival Pesona Budaya Tua Buton (Buton’s Festival of Traditional Culture). We got to witness women weaving fabric using traditional looms, babies undergoing a dole-dole ceremony to help them grow up healthy and strong, and ate a traditional Indonesian meal with locals. But the highlight of the day was the performances put on by 5,000 students. Once they were done dancing, we joined them on the field and must have taken 5,000 selfies! The day was long, but absolutely amazing! Thanks for watching! We created a Kayak Rack for our jeep that connects to the receiver hitch to make it removable. This is a multi-purpose rack to carry other things or just a kayak. This is our son's project and he also did all the welding while I did the grinding. Our son is in half/half highschool and Tech College working on becoming a certified welder. Floor timbers are a critically important structural member in wooden boats. As we've been building Arabella, there have been many decisions so far in terms of following the original plans or making slight adjustments. Each decision has pros and cons. When it came to the floor timbers, we felt the the wooden floor timbers she was designed with were actually very problematic. Wood floor timbers fastened through split frames cause a hard point and weaken the frame where they are connected. We therefore were pretty adamant about figuring out how to fabricate metal floors for her. Iron was not an option due to the galvanic reactions we have been meticulously avoiding so Silicon Bronze seemed to be the obvious choice. However, casting them was going to be difficult as well as potentially costly. We did more research and luckily came to find out that Bronze can actually be welded... so, that was one more thing we decided to teach ourselves and tackle! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built.

Check out Sailing Soulianis: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRqsOR0Y2zru-jXSzLcMcxg For this video we went out with the goal to catch dinner for that night. We motored out to Delta Shoal and spearfished all day. We ended up catching two good size grey snapper and a couple grunts. We're still very new to spearfishing, so this was a win for us. We hope to practice as much as possible and get better so that when we're cruising outside of the country we can catch our own food most of the time. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines Amazon Wish List: http://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/2FFJ6SE8DI80V ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way. This park is a hidden jewel, great place to fish, workout, or just relax. With covered picnic tables and charcoal grills, it is a wonderful place to take the family. There is also plenty for kids, with a well-maintained playground and great trails with a workout path. If you have love rocks this is a great place to leave your mark by exchanging with other lover rocks you may find. Danielle and I were going to go explore a more beachy location, but with spring break in full swing, plans change. There were 2 million more people in Tampa for spring break than last year, but there was plenty of room and parking at this park. We even tried to work out, we're not as young as we where in our Army days. After the Christmas celebrations in Spain, we head back to make a tour of England to visit family , friends and collect our Czech passports before Brexit. We head to the old market place in Kingston Upon Thames where seven Saxon Kings were crowned and to Kew Gardens for the Christmas light show " Lit Up Kew" where I use to go as a child. We visited our home village of Rottingdean an old Saxon farming community and went ice skating outside the Brighton Pavilion and we were reminded of how much we miss our special friends and family back home. As we headed further North we got very active and took the kids to Adrenaline Alley , the biggest skate park in UK and then Bounce, a trampoline park. To celebrate New Year 2019, we went for a walk in the woods with the kids new walkie talkies where they got lost again. We headed further North and went to Seaham Harbour with family where we collected sea glass on the beach. Finally, we started to head South again to Manchester, the heart of the industrial revolution and a big music scene. We were impressed by the barges yet again and Woody praised superb architecture of the industrial revolution We warmed up with a visit to the science museum where we saw the original "Stevensons Rocket" and then walked through the modern city to the John Rylands library where the children were able to examine the exquisite interior using binoculars, magnifying glasses and a quizz. Even further South, we went for a glorious walk in the Cotswolds , an area of outstanding natural beauty before heading back to the Czech Embassy to collect our Passports before Brexit. On the way back to Malaga in Spain we filled our bags with presents and safety equipment. PLEASE NOTE: YouTube have disabled comments on family channels because they sometimes feature kids.
