Replacing the wheel hub bearings on the rear of a Lincoln with independent rear suspension isn't that bad. Here we show you how to remove the wheel hub and bearing, press the new bearing, then reassemble the hub. This was my first time to work on this car and it took me about 2 hours to do everything. If I would have known what I was doing it probably would have taken an hour. To jack the car up and break loose any hard bolts I used the emergency jack kit a few people love to hate. The 12v jack and impact worked great and I didn't have to pull out the compressor. We pushed really hard to get the bronze floors finished up so they could be sitting in their places during the open house. In this episode we show how we got the floors ready to start fabricating the supports for the engine beds. Since everything fits in such a small space here and has to be fairly precise, we had to work on fabricating the floors while working wit the actual engine beds we are going to install. We therefore worked on each piece simultaneously to end up with a perfect fit. The stern floors are so much higher in order to be at an appropriate height to accommodate and support the engine which also meant very large wings up the frames. If the ones down the rest of the center line took a while, these were that much more time consuming again! To put the correct twist and bend in a piece of bronze strapping one half inch thick by twenty four inches in length on a small A-frame press was challenging to say the least! Really excited to try this product, we got the dollar weeds bad and this says it really works to remove them. We first put down Scotts grass seed to help choke out weeds but our soil needs some help. We have some experience using exterior grade paints on the interior of boats with success. Well, two gallons of Expanding Foam just wasn't enough for our boat, so we had to wait for another order. We ordered it through Amazon, but at the price we get it, it's not prime. Now that the foam is done it is on to sanding the boat floor in this Bayliner bowrider. We hoped this and our last video helped, now on to finish the floor and prepare for paint. We still have a lot to do to finish our restore of this boat, but this is a big milestone. Stay with us as we work on the windows, engine and other systems that don't work. We're moving right along with our silicon bronze floor timbers. We tacked most of the floor pieces together in preparation for welding them in batches. Before we can finish making the rest of the floor timbers though, we need to replace the frames that we culled recently. There were a couple of frames that we didn't feel were perfectly up to par so we pulled them in order to steam in some more suitable ones. We don't like seeing plastic thrown away on the beach, in the ocean or anywhere for that matter because we know how harmful it can be to wildlife. So along with a community of cruisers, we all decided to clean one part of the beach in Almerimar, Spain where the wind had recently blown a lot of plastic into one corner of the beach. We concentrated on this nine acre section. Eventually, after 40 bags of rubbish, collected by 29 people, 5 children and 6 dogs, we left the beach clean. This week I will spend a bit of time and explain why I have been off the boat the last 4 weeks or so. As of the date of this recording, I have been up in New Jersey for over 25 days. I know this isn't typical sailing or boat DIY work, but it is real life and what is going on with us. I hope you can be patient with us while we work on the things that are most important right now and get back to our sailing adventures very soon. While I am up in New Jersey, my lovely bride, Debbie, and the grandsquids are all back aboard SVDreamChaser and holding down the fort there, as they say. Deb has been doing some work but isn't quite as diligent as I am about filming all the stuff we do. She was able to get the boat lines all adjusted in some rough weather that happened over the last week or 2. She also went to get the dinghy from the shop where we were giving her a good tune-up. We hadn't used the dink in over a year since the big boat went into the boatyard and outboards don't do well when they just sit. Sadly that is what I let happen to it while focusing on all of the refit work on SVDreamChaser. Someone had asked me if I could share where I get all the do-rags (Due-rags, buffs, bandanas, headwear). What the heck do they even call these darn things? LOL. I got my first one as an accessory with a polisher for the boat or something like that. I loved the way it fit, but when I went to buy one at a marine supply store, they were $20-$30 each. I went on a bit of a search for cool patterns at a better price. The ones I use are not as good as the $30 jobbers but are fairly close to as good. The best news is they are about $2 per piece and I buy them in themed color packs. Installing floatation foam in the floor of our boat, not only to help float the boat after an impact to the hull but makes the floor structurally stronger. We do a little experiment and we pour a little foam in a cup to see how much it does expand. We didn't think the Liquid Urethane Closed Cell Rigid Pour 2 Lb Density Foam would expand as much as it did. Here we show how we drilled the holes in our new boat floor. We then mix the foam doing a little math not to overfill the boat floor cavity. Finally, we plug the hole with the wood plug we drilled out of the boat floor to fill the hole. ⛵ Buying fender covers is an aspect of sailing life that most yachties can relate to, but it shouldn't have to be difficult or expensive! We decided to find a way to cover our own fenders for FREE (almost) by using materials we already had on Bluefin. Recycling anything and everything we can on Bluefin is extremely important to us, so in this video we had fun making our new fender covers out of our old exercise leggings. Just one pair of leggings can make you TWO beautiful and funky looking fender covers!!! It's perhaps not the best idea to take two ladies on a sailing passage that turns into a tough upwind bash. Especially when it's the first time one of them has ever sailed overnight! Our friend Sara had a flight to catch on the island of Lombok so we had watched the weather carefully looking for nice, easy sailing conditions. We thought we'd found a great window and set off on a two night sail, only for the wind to accelerate between the islands and come straight on the nose. Sara was a good sport, but everyone on board was uncomfortable as we bashed through the waves. Starry Horizon held up well and got us into Lombok without any issues, though I think Sara was super happy to see dry land! Once we said goodbye to Sara, we attended the opening of a kindergarten school that had been built by cruisers. This was a project spearheaded by our friends in an effort to help the local community recover from a 7.0 earthquake that had absolutely devastated the island. It was a very emotional day and we were so proud to see the cruising community do what they could to help people who had lost so much. This boat we check out is an Irwin 52, a very luxurious sailing yacht in it's heyday, and some still are kept in amazing condition. One of these boats in good shape typically sells for $200,000 to $300,000. This one, however is a gutted wreck. Realistically it could take 10 years and $500,000 to bring this boat back to it's former glory. Is it worth it? Probably not. We came back to this boat after 1.5 years partly due to the amount of people who watched and were interested in the original Irwin video, vlog #31, as well as our own curiosity, We thought it would be interesting to see how our opinions of this boat changed over the last 1.5 years. This November 2018 crazy storm on Lake Erie will be remembered. We experience some intense flooding with the storm surge and 50-60 knots wind. Who knew waves could get that big on a lake. And after the storm it's time for our sailboat to haul out. And it's not the nicest day as we wake up to a wet and cold day. We're hauling out in the snow. To continue to learn more about sailing, we take an offshore sailing course with a few friends through Northern Breezes Sailing School in Bayfield, Wisconsin. We sailed on Lake Superior, took our ASA 103-104 course, and spent nearly a week staying on a sailboat. I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.
