This is a simple video explaining how I make, store and use 12v DC & 120v AC electricity on my sailboat. I often stay anchored out in remote areas for two to three weeks at a time. The solar panels require practically no maintenance, and are silent(unlike wind turbines and generators). This setup makes for a happy life living in some of the most beautiful and remote places in the world! The basic steps are simple: Sunshine, solar panels, solar charge controller, batteries, 12v DC panels and then loads. Or from the 12v DC batteries to the inverter, 120v AC power to the 120v panel, their respective loads. There are many more smaller parts like wires, lugs, dielectric grease and much much more. But this video will give you a basic understanding of how I produce power while sailing and living far off the grid. If you have a boat, mold and mildew seem to come with the territory. But there are a number of ways to keep it controlled, reduce damage, and get rid of that musty smell in cabins and compartments. I got the chance to film this North Pacific Yachts 49 Euro Pilothouse during a boat show called Trawlerfest in Baltimore earlier this fall. This yacht is an amazing long distance cruiser. It is a rugged and low maintenance boat with a modern appeal. It's also a great option as a liveaboard. The owners actually live on board for the majority of the year! Because of the traffic on board throughout my time filming I was unable to film the engine room. You gain access to the single engine (or engines depending on selected options) through hatches in the main salon floor. I discuss engine specs and capabilities towards the end of the tour. For too long I've seen people rip the tail off a lobster and throw the rest away. It's wasteful and means their missing out on the best meat. In this first ever installment of "How To DIY Adventure". I'll show you how to properly clean and harvest as much meat as possible from a this GIANT Spiny Rock Lobster. But what I show you here will also work on smaller "normal" lobsters as well. Enjoy! Video Credits: Victoria Gadek FAQ Q: Don't small lobsters taste better? A: Not really no. If you don't know how to cook a big lobster it's far easier to mess them up. Boiling the whole lobster this size will mean making the meat super tough. There are many ways that I'll show in a future video of how to make these big boys delicious! Q: Can you get ciguatera from lobster? A: No. Only though older predatory reef fish. Q: Those big ones are the "breeders"! A: Hold your horses. Yes the larger ones can breed larger egg batches. But they also provide considerably more food than the smaller ones. Plus at this size and age they have already breed many more times. Getting their own genes out into the world through their offspring. It was take many more smaller lobsters who have not breed as much to equal this much food. There is nothing wrong with take these larger lobsters. And I find plenty of them in the remote places I sail to and dive. Q: Do you eat everything you kill? A: This is a very ignorant question I get from people who have not lived off the land or sea. But yes, it's not hard to eat this much sea food. And it would be immoral to kill something and not get the most out of it. That's why I made this video. With the hope to better educate people on getting the most out of their lobster. Not just taking the tail and throwing the rest away.
