Strange red head, beach, dolphins, sunbathing, medicine chest, water pump, abandoned boats You never know what you’ll see on Sailing Intermission. Steve and Karen, at different times, both get a visit from a mysterious red headed woman. She says her name is Scarlet. Who is she???? The weather is getting warmer and we venture out to the beach. The wind picks up and Karen ends up chasing and grabbing a bouncing beach ball several times. We decided to cut the beach fun short and go home. Less wind and Karen finds some time to sunbathe on deck while several dolphins happen to swim by Isabella. They are so graceful and beautiful to watch. The water pump has been coming on intermittently without water coming through any faucets. Thinking there was a leak, we have been searching all over, under sink cabinets, in the showers, etc to locate where the leak is occurring. This week the water pump stopped working. Steve replaced it with a new 5 gallon per minute Jabsco fresh water pump. Thank goodness there was a spare on board. And an amazing bonus! It fixed the problem of the unexplained intermittent pump action. Apparently, the old water pump had a broken sensor which caused it to come on without any water faucet being active. Yea, new pump, no leak, happy couple. The medicine chest in the forward shower was looking a bit rough. Steve sanded and applied several coats of polyurethane to the wood facing. Now it looks brand new. Walking around the marina we noticed several boats in various stages of disrepair. We’ve mentioned this before and it still puzzles us as to why people let their boats sit, sometimes for years, without ever using or even visiting them. After about twenty minutes of scrambling through the forest along a small stream, we reached a waterfall — beautifully hidden, cascading into a natural pool. We woke up to one of the most uncomfortable anchorages we’ve ever had — rolling heavily behind Pulau Senoa on the east side of Natuna as the swell from Storm Senyar began to reach us. (Natuna — or more precisely, Natuna Besar, sits just north-east of the Anambas Islands, out in the open South China Sea between Borneo and the Malaysian coast). With strong easterly winds building and the anchorage no longer safe, we made the decision to leave and run south in search of real protection. Getting the anchor up in big swell is never simple, and clear communication became essential as we worked together on the bow — something made much easier with our Hollyland headsets. As we sailed along Natuna’s coastline, the weather continued to shift around us. Senyar had crossed from the Indian Ocean into the western Pacific basin — a rare path for a storm — and even though we were far from the centre, its influence was already shaping the sea state across the region. We weren’t the only ones looking for shelter. Local boats began turning into the protected channel between Natuna and the smaller islands just to the south alongside us — a quiet confirmation that we’d found the right place to wait out the weather. Salut les loulous🛖⚓ Aujourd’hui, matinée consacrée à la préparation du bateau : remplissage des cuves à eau et fin de la réparation du moteur hors-bord avec la dernière vidange. Tout est désormais opérationnel pour la traversée. Départ de Los Cristianos en fin de matinée, cap sur La Gomera. La mer est maniable mais le vent reste irrégulier sous l’effet des accélérations entre les îles. Nous atteignons un premier mouillage près de San Sebastián de La Gomera, mais la houle résiduelle le rend rapidement inconfortable : le bateau roule trop . La décision est prise de lever l’ancre sans tarder et de longer la côte à la recherche d’un meilleur abri. Après quelques milles, nous découvrons une petite plage bien protégée au sud de l’île. L’ancre tient parfaitement sur un fond propre et la mer devient nettement plus calme. Nous profitons de cette escale pour débarquer et faire une courte randonnée. Le sentier mène à un ancien village abandonné, figé dans le temps, avec ses maisons de pierre et ses terrasses désertées. L’endroit dégage une atmosphère à la fois paisible et mystérieuse. La météo confirme notre bon choix : un vent établi autour de 35 nœuds souffle de part et d’autre de l’île, générant des zones agitées, mais notre mouillage reste parfaitement abrité. We depart Taormina, Sicily after one night and sail to Marina di Reposto Porto D'Etna for a couple days of work from the marina. From he marina we have a stunning view of Mt Etna. While there we tour the beautiful city on the hill of Taormina and Nicole and her friends spend the day at a beach club while I repair the swim platform. An incredibly powerful gas spring came loose. I manage to re-extend this spring with dyneema and a winch and safely reattach it. We leave from the marina and head for mainland Italy in favorable winds and find that the new Hallberg Rassy hull form loves speed through a choppy seaway with an angle off the waves. Admittedly, I first discovered this in the Baltic but needed a bit of a reminder.

We adore our new lagoon but there are some thing they simply did not think through like the two bow lockers. There separated by an horizontal floor and this makes the locker useless as stowing things in there will request you to take everything in and out to retrive anything. Not a good fit for live aboard sailors who need a lot of spares, accessories and stuff in general. We got rid of the horizontal plane and created a monovolume space that can be used entirely and organised properly

Viel Spaß beim Reinschauen! ----- Moin ✌🏻Ich bin Johannes, based in Hamburg – und zusammen mit meiner Freundin Rika hat uns während Corona das Segelfieber erwischt. Ziemlich heftig sogar. Seitdem zieht es uns immer wieder in die Dänische Südsee. Seit Oktober 2023 sind wir dort mit unserer eigenen Maxi 84 unterwegs – Fjella (Heimathafen: Kiel). Kleine Inseln, kristallklares Wasser und eine steile Lernkurve: Für uns das perfekte Revier, um unsere Segel-Skills Schritt für Schritt auszubauen. Wir sind als absolute Rookies gestartet – auf dem Wasser genauso wie beim Thema Refit. In den letzten beiden Wintern haben wir unsere Maxi Stück für Stück selbst upgegradet. Viel Neues, viel Learning by Doing – aber genau daran wächst man. Cast around 1252 during Japan’s Kamakura period, the statue originally sat inside a large hall that was destroyed multiple times by typhoons, earthquakes, and a tsunami. By the late 15th century, it was left exposed to the elements, creating its distinctive open-air presence today. The statue stands 13.35 meters (43.8 feet) tall including its base, weighs about 93-121 tons, and is Japan’s second-tallest bronze Buddha after Nara’s. Key features include 1-meter-long eyes, 1.95-meter ears Hasedera Temple Figures Hasedera boasts hundreds of small Jizo Bodhisattva statues at Jizo-do Hall, symbolizing protection for children’s souls, including those miscarried or stillborn; over 50,000 have been offered since WWII, with hundreds displayed annually before burial.
