In a race that will be remembered as “one for the books,” the 113th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust finished today with the Sailors Celebration, hosted for the first time on the great lawn of Mission Point Resort. And while this year’s race didn’t break any official records other than the number of Lake Michigan lightning strikes during Saturday night’s storms, it was one of the overall fastest races in recent years. By the time the Grand Hotel Porch Party ended Sunday evening, nearly all of the 33 boats in the Cruising Division had finished; and half of the turbo boats in Section 1 were drying out their gear.

Per affrontare questi problemi, gli ingegneri di Suzuki si sono concentrati sulla struttura del fuoribordo che, quando è in funzione, aspira e rimette in mare tonnellate di acqua. E’ stato quindi sviluppato un dispositivo di filtraggio e raccolta, che seleziona la microplastica, utilizzando proprio il sistema di ricircolo dell’acqua di raffreddamento. Attraverso tale dispositivo, le microplastiche disciolte in mare possono dunque essere raccolte, semplicemente utilizzando la propria barca con il motore Suzuki. Mentre navighi… pulisci! Il dispositivo può essere installato facilmente all’interno del sistema di raffreddamento e non influisce sulle prestazioni del motore poiché impiega solo l'acqua che è già stata utilizzata per raffreddare il motore. Secondo quanto è emerso da una ricerca condotta in Giappone, fra le sostanze raccolte attraverso questo sistema di filtraggio, sono stati trovati rilevanti depositi di microplastiche. Ulteriori dati sono in via di aggiornamento e si avranno al termine della fase di ricerca e sviluppo del sistema che Suzuki sta conducendo anche nel resto del mondo. Suzuki conta di introdurre tale dispositivo come optional sui propri fuoribordo a partire dal 2021 e successivamente di renderlo disponibile come tecnologia standard per la propria gamma. *(Ricerca Suzuki a partire dal 1° ottobre 2020) Suzuki Clean Ocean Project Il 2020 segna il decimo anno da quando Suzuki ha messo in atto le proprie campagne ambientali per la pulizia di oceani, fiumi e laghi. Poiché la presenza dei rifiuti di plastica in mare sta diventando un problema sempre più grave e impellente, è giunto il momento di rivedere il modo col quale ci relazioniamo all'ambiente e alla società, e valutare cosa possiamo fare per determinare una nuova strada da intraprendere. Oltre a raccogliere le microplastiche in mare attraverso il dispositivo Micro-Plastic Collector, il progetto Suzuki Clean Ocean include le seguenti attività: Clean-Up the World Campaign Nel 2010 è partita la campagna ambientale per la pulizia di mari, fiumi, laghi e stagni, denominata Clean-up the World, promossa nel quartier generale Suzuki, ad Hamamatsu, in Giappone. Dal 2011 hanno aderito alla campagna anche tutte le filiali Suzuki nel mondo e in totale sono stati oltre 8.000 i dipendenti e manager, che hanno volontariamente partecipato alle attività di pulizia che quest’anno giungeranno, quindi, al 10° anno. Ridurre gli imballaggi in plastica Per contribuire alla riduzione dei rifiuti in plastica, abbiamo cominciato col progettare sistemi d’imballaggio per i fuoribordo Suzuki, dove l’uso della plastica venisse drasticamente ridotto. Ciò è stato possibile grazie all’adozione di materiali alternativi il cui utilizzo è stato avviato in via sperimentale per alcuni modelli, a partire da quelli prodotti nel giugno 2020.
