Located in eastern Indonesia's North Maluku province, nestled on the west side of the large island of Halmehara is Ternate Island. Ternate is a small island, but has a large and important place in Indonesia's history dating back to the 1500's when Portuguese traders came here to the Spice Islands to establish a strong hold to monopolize the Spice trade. Our tour takes us around the island to visit several Portuguese forts, nutmeg and clove forests, including the oldest known clove tree (nearly 400 yrs old), 2 natural lakes, 2 beaches (1 deserted, 1 a favorite of school holiday visitors), and the torturous Burned Rocks area, which is a constant reminder that the island is dominated by the towering volcano, Gama Lama which can be seen from every side as you tour the island. Thank you to the directors of the English schools, Ahmad Mahifa (Mr Bla Bla), from the L-PIA and Mr. Rusdi Karim and Mr.Samin Hamudu from the English Training Center for making our island tour possible by providing transportation, meals, and all the great student guides. Special thanks to Azzis, Samin, Jasmal, and Rusdi, with whom we became great friends...our gratitude for filling our stay with activities, unique experiences, opportunities to taste great Indonesian food, and for your personal assistance, (and for The Ladder ...LOL!). All of the classes were out on Biscayne Bay in Miami Florida for day 5 of the regatta. Perfect winds put several races on the books for each class including the Melges 24 class which had 1 boat carrying a chest cam GoPro! There sure was some action at the marks!

Thursday brought the Melges 20, Melges 24, Viper 640 and J70 class out onto Biscayne Bay and kept the Stars on shore for a lay day. A dying breeze kept the sailors on their toes as they tried to connect the dots, especially the Melges 20 fleet where some didn't make the time limit. GoPro was on a J70 today, the brand new class.

The front moved through and brought BIG breeze to the Start fleet today. A GoPro rigged to the top of a star mast brought some different perspective to the cat fights on the starting line of which there were FOUR! Black flags couldn't even keep this fleet in line! The one race of today was action packed and let the regatta leaders prove they can dominate in ANY conditions.

MiCats & Caribbean Multihulls were on board this Outremer 55 taking part in a round St Martin Multihull race during Feb. 2013. We came second overall once our handicap was adjusted..... not bad for a fully loaded cruising boat! A racing a Tri won by 4 minutes!!!
