Dongfeng Race Team had to make some repairs to one of the mainsail batten cars, (on which the mainsail slides up and down the mast track). The crew had to take the mainsail down in order to make this repair, an efficient manoeuvre, with few miles lost to Team Alvimedica and the rest of the fleet. Impressive action at a very respectable speed without the mainsail. The boat even touched 27 knots surfing down one wave.

Cape Horn is one of those special places that every offshore sailor wants to go to. It’s as close as you can get to Antarctica. The stories of Cape Horners going around in storm and tempest is the stuff of legends, so for every yachtsman, it’s one of those things they want to tick off. Rounding Cape Horn is the talk of the day on the boats!

Watch the highlights from day three of fleet racing at the RC44 Valletta Cup. Giant seas and 25 knot winds provided a challenging penultimate day of racing for the 11 teams competing at the RC44 Valletta Cup in Malta. Racing was postponed due to gale force winds and it wasn't until 1400 local that the wind momentarily dipped below the statutory 25 knots allowing racing to start. Torbjörn Törnqvist's Artemis Racing led after the first lap but blasting downwind damaged her bow and on the next upwind leg it was Nico Poons' Charisma which overtook, ultimately leading to the finish, elevating her to second position overall.

Eventually Jamie goes up the mast to investigate a halyard wrap problem, which offers a great perspective of Esper's new, clean deck and Bass Harbour anchorage first thing in the morning. The Esper crew take on another job that should have taken an hour. Instead it takes ten. The lesson learnt? There is no such thing as a simple job on a boat. Oh, and keep an eye on those tides!
