We caught up with a few of the sailors after the morning session to get their thoughts on the #Tanzacat2015 and overall sailing conditions they experienced.
Yup! I went sailing today but only for a few hours. In fact, the purpose was many to do some harbour manoeuvres but it turns out there is so much stuff growing under the boat that it's only barely able to motor. When I got back to the boat I got started on a few minor jobs aboard the boat. The LED mentioned are these: http://www.batsystem.se/en/belysning/ljuskallor/led/94g4b Note that they are rated at 8-30V which makes them suited for use aboard a boat even without a voltage regulator - that's not true for all LEDs.

Most will not enjoy this video particularly - we did this one as a favour to a You Tube / Face Book friend who liked the photo we posted on FB today ... he asked if we took footage with the Go Pro which we always do for our sailing videos. He asked if we could not share today's clips with him as special favour since he has had a nasty week and needs some Impi entertainment - so - some of this will feature in our future movie on Ile Des Pins, but for now ... today's clips in a short movie - A DAY IN THE LIFE OF IMPI !!!
It was down to the final race on the final day to determine first, second, and third, with the Royal Thames Yacht Club, the New York Yacht Club, and Eastern Sailing Club, respectively, grabbing the podium finishes. The New York Yacht Club certainly had the biggest come back of the race, climbing from ninth to second place during the last few days. Skipper of the NYYC team, Paul Zabetakis, knew the team had to dig in to be successful, however he knew is team would ultimately be able to do it. Congratulations to the team and all the competitors!
The fleet of 23 yachts set off under better conditions than were forecast. Chinese Whisper led the fleet out of the Harbour followed by Balance, Victoire and Triton. Dale Lorimer from Bow Caddy Media was on her usual 'faux chopper' position at North Head to catch the fleet.

Seht selbst...

Warning: there is a chicken in a bag. Yes it was going to be eaten by a local we came to find out later on.... We do some exploring of the wonderful island Providencia, where we rented a "mule" and explored and met some of the locals. We would recommend Providencia to all cruisers or travelers alike. This video by Linda Johnston gives a good impression of how much fun can be had on a trip with the Seven Seas... http://www.thesevenseas.net
While moored near Wayil (Raja Ampat), we were entertained for over an hour by a pod of inshore bottlenose dolphins, or was it they who were entertained by us, with their game of chasing around and around the tender boat, diving under it, blowing bubbles and peering at us with curious eyes. How we wished we could understand their whistles and clicks! As the sun set and the stars & planets appeared, they escorted us back to the Seven Seas, while guests started to make plans for future cruises... thesevenseas.net

Yes, maybe not for everyone. But I prefer no dodger or bimini or connection of the two. In a gale I want only boat, not barn siding. Is an umbrella ridiculous? I see your point. But it can be put up or down in a moment, and aside from the merry-go-round look, is efficient. What a day for Team New York Yacht Club as they had a 2nd and two 4ths on the penult day of the 2015 New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup. The conditions sent the teams up the Bay so the conditions were quite different than the last few days and included a narrow course, an ebbing tide, and dying breeze.

Here are highlights from Thursday, September 17, Day 3 at the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup
During the Plumbing project on DreamChaser, we installed a water distribution manifold for all the plumbing lines and located it right under the cabinet floor panels in the upper salon/galley. It was a added bonus that the floor panels were not screwed down to the floor beams, and it made it easy to store or hide items under the floor. There is enough room to store a few cases of soft drinks or beer easily between the tankage and the sides of the hull. During this water plumbing project, we noticed some water on the floor and I assumed it was where the old plumbing lines went from copper to poly tubing, however after checking them, I noticed that the actual hot water heater tank was leaking. That was not part of the plan as it instantly made us focus on this items to resolve and have to put the rest of the plumbing project on hold to get this done. (We will create another post on the Hot Water Heater another day so I won’t go into detail here) After removing the hot water heater and putting it up on deck to start to inspect it, I realized just how bad the floor panels looked under the cabinets. This was a good distraction, I was not exactly moving as quickly as I was hoping I would have on the plumbing replacements. The lines are all in and new faucets, however with the hot water heater leaking, I was at a standstill until it was replaced. I pulled out the floor panels so that I could use them as templates to mark, measure and cut the new panels. This is the first project I have done where I was setting up and cutting pretty decent sized pieces of wood. When we were in Kemah, I would take the parts over to a wood shop I had setup in a rented space, but we are a little over 6 hours away by car from that setup, so…. it was time to just setup something temporary. My temporary workshop consisted of a fold-up 6 foot table, an extension cord running from the boat up to the little spit of grass at the end of the dock, and my cell phone blasting out some Bob Marley on Pandora. I used the old panels as patterns and cut out the panels for a good tight fit back in the cabinet floors and then sanded each piece to 220 grit. I also cut a small hardwood block that I will epoxy to the bottom of the hull in the forward bilge and mount the shower sump to it rather than the hull directly. Lastly, I also cut out the forward head substrate for the granite countertop. Once everything way cut, dry fit tested and then sanded to 220, it was time to load it all up on the car and take everything over to the storage shed to paint, glue and clamp where it could be left overnight to dry. I started with the small hardwood block and used a forester bit to make small indentations for the attachment feet on the sump allowing it to sit flush and solid on that block of wood. The next step was to paint that block of wood as well as the two floor panels. We opted to paint these with “topsides” paint so that it would have a boats exterior paint job making it easier to clean in the event something spills in there. Making the new panels will also allow me to mount the new hot water heater in a different orientation to provide more room for storing kitchen supplies. The last thing that we did was glued the new granite counter-top to the substrate that we cut so that it can be mounted in place with screws from the underside of the counter. When finished there will be a fiddle rail mounted all the way around countertop as well to keep things from falling off of the counter in a sea-way. I must admit, the cooler weather, the ability to setup our small working area and to get some new wooden panels, cut, sanded and finished, felt really good. We have not been making the progress on this boat like we did on the last one and it felt good to get some large items take care of. A few weeks ago, I put up a small video on the Youtube channel letting everyone know that we are working on a 4 part series on replacing the plumbing lines within the boat. We have the footage, and I have some of the blog content written, however It is taking longer than I expected so please be patient for a couple of weeks while the editing process and writing continues. Wishing you safe travels and fair winds. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "How to repair a wooden mast, boom, spar or Bulkhead (Step by Step) " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nxr-yxUjvQ -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
