New sails for C&C R from Challenge Marblehead Dacron. If you are looking for high quality dacron cruising sails for your C&C consider the Precision Sails 500 Series Dacron. All our sails are designed in our local loft in Victoria British Columbia Canada with your choice of materials. Challenge Sailcloth's Super Premium fabrics are the highest yarn count, most densely woven sailcloth styles. The product line begins with Marblehead weaves. Both Low Aspect and High Aspect Marblehead constructions are made with Fiber 104, the very best polyester sailcloth yarn, in both the warp and fill directions of the cloth. Fiber 104 has Super Tenacity properties. Marblehead Weaves & Fiber 104 are woven with Power-Shrinkage technology. The yarns and fibers achieve their maximum shrinkage during processing, which means that the fibers are in their natural physical state before they are sewn into a sail and hoisted up the mast. The maximum shrinkage allows the yarns to be woven together more times per yard than any other fabric. This process is called Interlocking™. The fibers Interlock™ more times than other fabrics, resulting in a great mechanical advantage in sailcloth. The result is excellent bias stretch resistance, stability and durability. Marblehead Weaves use Fiber 104 in both the warp and fill direction of the construction. Fiber 104 is the highest shrinkage polyester yarn used in sailcloth. The Challenge R&D engineering team conducted a collaborative search with leading fiber manufacturers and textile engineers. The purpose of the search was to find the highest shrinkage, highest tenacity yarn. The search resulted in Fiber 104. The high shrinkage makes the highest yarn count, most densely woven fabrics, with the greatest quantity of fiber interlockings. It is much more expensive than the other fibers used in Europe and the United states, and is exclusive to Challenge Sailcloth. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/c/c-c/c-c-34-r/headsails/product/c-c-34-r-cruising-headsail/

Finally! Today is the day we leave the marina. My youngest brother Toby decided to join me for a couple of weeks as we sail north. We motor out into the bay then stop to dive on the hull and give it a quick clean. We had some pretty severe weather and some sketchy moments but arrived safe and sound. Our passage from Charleston SC to Wilmington NC was an easy smooth over night sail... for the most part. We did get hit by (our first) rain storm. Uma sails reefed and trimmed, she really was a champ, and this wet ride became the smoothest, most comfortable ride since we left Fort Pierce. The next day, we sailed up the Cape Fear river for 20 miles to enjoy a beautiful sunset. Phang Nga bay was proving to be even more spectacular than we had heard. We couldn't get enough of the jagged limestone cliffs that grew out of the placid water. So instead of heading east to the white sandy beaches of Phuket's better known islands, we ventured further north... ****************************** Be one of the good guys: https://www.patreon.com/followtheboat Be the first to know: http://eepurl.com/B9Ykn Subscribe to our youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/spannerheadz?sub_confirmation=1 Blog: http://www.followtheboat.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/followtheboat Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/followtheboat ****************************** ...not very far, as it turned out, but far enough away to be the only boat at anchor in a stunning, natural haven. It had been a long day, so we took in the view and watched the sun go down over James Bond island. The following morning we were up before six and on our way to the famous tourist land mark in an effort to get there before the day trippers. It was worth the early start, because apart from a few friendly workers we had the whole island to ourselves. A path through the rocks brought us to a small isthmus which joins Khao Ping Kan’s two limestone karsts. And there, opposite the narrow beach, was the iconic mushroom-shaped stack where Scaramanga hid the Solex Agitator. It didn’t look too menacing, in fact the place was deserted apart from a few workers quietly brewing their coffee in front of the empty souvenir kiosks. The butterfly-shaped island is very much like all the other karst islands in the area, but what makes it special—and such a draw for the tripper boats—is that it was used in The Man With The Golden Gun. We stayed for a while, investigating every nook and cranny and taking in the views from both beaches before heading back to Esper. Since we were in the middle of an empty bay this seemed like the perfect place to test launch the new drone. The Splash Drone has been designed for take off and landing in water, so it seemed the best choice for us. When we were back at the marina, Jamie and I had honed our flying skills using a mini drone. A friend had suggested that it would be better to practise on a cheaper more expendable model, rather than learning with the big one. We were pretty happy with the first experiment, and apart from a drop of water in the GoPro housing, the footage was great. We’d visited James Bond island, flown the drone for the first time and dinner was now slow cooking in the galley. And it was only half past ten! We needed to make our way south to Ao Chalong so decided to pull up the hook and see if we might find somewhere pretty to stop on the way… ****************************** Music in this episode is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (3.0) 00:04 "Suddenly" (Followtheboat theme) by Otis McDonald https://soundcloud.com/otismacmusic 01:01 "What does anybody know about anything" by Chris Zabriskie http://chriszabriskie.com 05:15 "Maccary Bay" by Kevin Macleod http://incompetech.com/music/ 07:19 "Lewis Dekalb" by Kevin Macleod 10:32 "Sugar Pines" by Wes Hutchinson (YouTube free music) 12:42 "Prelude No 7" by Chris Zabriskie http://chriszabriskie.com/ 16:39 "Going, Going, Gone" by The 126ers (YouTube free music) 18:01 "Aretes" by Kevin Macleod
As promised, a little tour on my boat "TESSIE". There has been a lack of wind the last few weeks here now. Suddenly it came, and instead of making a dry, boring tutorial in port, I thought why not make it in some rough weather, in the right invironment :) I have found out making tutorial vids are not my thing at all, to much talking, and to much to remember but I did my best and have probably forgotten a lot of details, but whatever. Making films of my expeditions is what I do best and love. Anyway, ask questons in the commentfield or facebook and Ill answer about anything! Enjoy! We went back for more sailing out in the sea. With more trial and error now I'm getting a little more familiar with Galopin. The sea was littered with jelly fish that looked like garter belts for can-can dancers. And it rained like it never rains in the south of France, so we went to discover more goodies until the sun let us sail again gloriously. Prélude à la 34e Coupe de l'America, la Louis Vuitton Cup a débuté le dimanche 7 juillet en baie de de San Francisco avec Emirates Team New Zealand courant contre... lui-même.
