We go searching for a sailboat to buy in St Petersburg. If you recall the last video... we struck out on the S2 9.2c. Great boat, but it was just too stinkin' small for the 3 of us to live on comfortably. Being the unstoppable dynamic trio that we are, we decided to make the most of our trip to Florida and check out as many boats as possible. We saw not 1... but 6 sailboats during our trip! This video covers the second half of our trip as we check out 2 Morgan Out Island 33, an Ericson 32, a Columbia 34, and a Watkins 33. Some good, some bad, and others just... floating... barely. We drove over 1200 miles in a hot car, windows down, no AC - and yet, we had a great trip. It was very educational and we feel like we are that much closer to finding the boat that will be a great fit for our adventure. We had a great trip to California recently. We were able to see a bunch of family, go to Universal Studios, we had a great road trip and got to see Pat's son graduate. Overall, wonderful trip!

The Race to Alaska starts in Port Townsend, Wa. Entries started arriving a couple of days early, including Bad Kitty, the 35 ft racing catamaran that I was to be racing, together with owner Bob, long term crew Alec and Phil, who, as Team Mau, raced a 17ft beach cat last year. At 6am on June 23rd over 60 boats, ranging from a standup paddleboard to a kayak, a 44ft monohull and a wide variety of fast multihulls, started the 40 mile first leg to Victoria BC in a good SE wind. The multihulls charged off, Mad Dog leading, but we were heading the chasing pack. As we neared Victoria, about 3 hours later, the wind, as predicted, began to die and we had to start "motoring". No sailing is allowed in Victoria harbour. It is, after all, a busy cruise ship and ferry port, never mind a floatplane runway. Broderna was close behind as we rang the finishing bell at 10.45 to be second boat home, Mad Dog had finished an easy first. The last boat finished at dawn the next day. Every finisher qualified for the next leg. See more at r2ak.com

We had a couple of hot, busy days in Victoria before the main race start. Checking out the boat and "fine tuning" the rowing and pedalling stations. Most of the other crews were doing the same thing, clearly no one has yet perfected the "human power" aspects of the boats. On Sunday we had a "Le Mans" style start, running down the pontoons from the starting line outside the Empress Hotel. Untie and pedal/row away. I was filming while pedalling, hence the jumpy video! Despite being almost the last to leave the dock we were very pleased to find we were about 4th boat out past Ogden Point, when we could hoist sails. We even overtook several small rowing boats. Fortunately a light, albeit patchy, wind filled in and we were able to sail. We had some very close, intense racing up past the San Juan islands and, as evening fell, the Canadian Gulf Islands. Even in very light winds modern multihulls go to windward well. The tide was on the change so we decided to go through Active Pass to the Strait of Georgia. Incredibly we found that, after 9 hours of racing, we were overlapped with Mail Order Bride as we pedalled out of the pass. We heard someone on shore shouting "don't go that way, there's a back eddy" so we gybed away. MOB didn't hear and 30 minutes later as night fell we were 1/2 mile ahead. This is our review of Lego Creator Big Ben (10253). It has 4,163 pieces and took me about 9 hours to put it together. This is one of the biggest sets Lego currently do, and also one of the cheapest per-piece at 4.1p / 6c. Thanks to the customer's choice this sail looks great and thanks to Darryl Hodgson the sail design is perfect for cruising. Wire luff is not something that every 30 foot boat uses so make sure your sail designer is familiar with working with them.

A Tanzer 26 is a great fun boat and it's even more fun when a new replacement sail is designed well. This Tanzer 26 mainsail design includes 4 partial battens, 2 reef points and a Cunningham. XM80 sailing in Xiamen China November 2014. This day there was only a fairly light wind and we saw at most about 12 knots of wind. As you can see, the boat handles well, and was planing downwind. The XM80 keeps us smiling.
