Robert Scheidt is the man of the Rio 2016 Sailing Competition, as Ben Ainslie was the one of London 2012. The Brazilian sailor heads his sixth Olympics at home and his goal is getting his sixth Olympic medal. If he achieves it, he will become the athlete with more medals in the history of Olympic sailing. He will also consolidate himself as the best Brazilian athlete, the only one with six medals. And if he jumps on the highest level of the podium of the Laser class, he will become the only Brazilian sportman to hold three gold medals. Scheidt experienced his first Olympic glory 20 years ago. At 43 years old, he doesn’t see himself as the favorite in the Rio 2016 Laser event. “I don’t have any more that dominance I used to have”, he says. But the Brazilian energy may help him to enter into the Olympic legend… once more. For insurance purposes we were instructed to make arrangements for the Caribbean hurricane season running from July to November. We had to get above 30 degrees north so we decided to sail from the US Virgin Islands to the east coast of American to North Carolina. Why: Really love the weather of Florida, the weather in Florida is closest to the weather we had when we lived in Honduras. We love water and beach which is abundant in Florida. Most everytime we have gotten away from the daily grind it has been to a beach with warm weather. We have been and lived in colder places and hated the winter. I meet Dani in W.A. and she married me cause I said I would show her warmer locations, kidding. Living in a cold place like W.A. or when we were in Germany for 3 years, all we thought about was warm locations. You may say, well Texas is darn hot, and you'd be right, but it is also dame cold in the winter, sometimes to single digits. I hope you like this video, if not it is something for me to remember this time in my life.

Had a great experience with U-Haul getting a double axle car hauler for our move from Texas to Florida. Picked up everything we needed, and the staff was great. Did end up booking the trailer online for $100 dollars less than what the young man quoted, but he was really helpful.

Here is the aftermath of my hoverboard experience, and why old fat people should avoid them. I was riding this thing around the neighborhood going up hill, lost my balance and ate the road. Woke up the next day aching from the new muscles I tried to use. So if you are going to use a hoverboard, pads are a great thing to have.

Wild Oats XI, the super maxi owned by the Oatley family and skippered by Mark Richards, was first out of Sydney Heads, leaving Scallywag (ex-Ragamuffin 100) in her wake. The two had sailed neck-and-neck down the Harbour under Code Zeros, but just as Seng Huang Lee’s Scallywag gybed off Camp Cove, Wild Oats XI hooked into some pressure and took off. Close behind Scallywag was Rupert Henry’s JV62, Chinese Whisper, followed by Tony Kirby’s Ker 46, Patrice, sailing between the two headlands, clear of dirty air from the pack, which tended to hug South Head. The unexpected surprise was seeing Shane Kearns’ defending champion, Komastu Azzurro, in the top third of the fleet, keeping pace with the bigger and newer boats, not too far adrift of the three V70’s, which were led by Peter Harburg’s Black Jack. The two entries representing South Australia became early casualties after both sustained bow damage in separate incidents, joining a NSW yacht that was involved in one of those incidents, all three within the first half hour of the race.

First day out of the box, was not that impressed by the video quality compared to my Droid phone, the sound was a little poor. My wife said you get what you pay for and I think she might be right. After retiring from the Race to Alaska we still had to repair our rudder fittings so we could sail home. Even Bob wasn't going to use an angle grinder until we got the lower fittings out of the water, so we "hoisted" the boat using the main halyard tied to the dock. It got the transoms just clear of the water so Bob could work. Once the rudders were refitted we were able to start heading south, fortunately we had been able to pick up our outboard before it got on the ferry to Alaska. Having an engine makes life much easier!! Phil went back to work, so Tim joined us for the trip home. Instead of going back the way we came we took the more scenic route, via Lagoon Cove and then Blind Channel. Our destination was the infamous Dent and Yuculta rapids. Once again, despite the dire warnings in the pilot books to only pass through at slack water, they were no big deal, we just raced through under engine at 14 knots over the ground. Maybe we weren't worried because we were on a multihull, or maybe because we'd been through Seymour Narrows at full ebb against a 30 knot head wind? Then it was into Desolation Sound with Bad Kitty doing what it does best - reaching under spinnaker in flat water. A last night on Jedadiah Island before getting home.

We're using the Extendable 'XT' Vane - which was designed with light airs in mind - but also works great in windier conditions, as Will demonstrates. Also of note is that the Hydrovane is on the weather side, with a 26 inch offset. The small amount of extra rudder exposure on this point of sail is no problem at all.

Team Lorina Limonade – Golfe du Morbihan a remporté le stade nautique de Hyères, mais il a surtout assuré sa victoire dans le Tour de France à la Voile, alors qu’il reste deux courses à disputer. Un sacre magistral pour cette équipe qui avait remporté le classement amateur l’an dernier. Depuis 1978, des milliers de régatiers ont découvert les côtes françaises, ont été refoulés par les courants de la Manche, ont demandé leur position aux pêcheurs bretons ou se sont fait coucher par du Mistral. D’une joyeuse course-croisière, le Tour de France à la Voile est devenu une belle école de course au large pour de nombreux équipages amateurs et jeunes marins talentueux, puis une compétition de haut niveau avec la présence de grands champions. Le Diam 24 marque le début d'une nouvelle ère sur le Tour de France à la Voile.
