Homeschool ended up extending through the weekend 😜we really just were looking to get out of the house. Shane had wanted to visit a "drum garden" where the rain plays the drums. We ended up sticking around and looking at the Cedar River Watershed Education Center. It was pretty overwhelming for the kids, but they loved it. We had learned about the water cycle last fall during the floods. The center explains the process through a ball that is vacuumed around the room to mimic a water drop. The kids just loved putting the ball in the tube... Totally recommend it. I'd love to checkout some of their group tours in the future. 6 weeks to departure! I knew that becoming a sailboat owner meant that at some point, I would end up with a sanding machine in my hands and a valved safety mask on my face, doing something that I was probably not going to enjoy. In this episode, Ryan and I are getting our sailboat ready for our voyage. Last year, we had the hull repainted, and the guy we had hired for the job put some hard paint on top of the soft paint. This resulted in the antifouling flaking off completely. We had to scrape the bad paint off and sand the entire hull of the boat in order to repaint Our sailboat is a Beneteau Oceanis 40, and the hull is quite a surface to take care off. Scraping and sanding it bare took us three days (total 35-40 man hours). A good friend came and gave us a hand one day, which helped tremendously. It saved us a lot of money, but we are hiring someone (that we trust and regard highly!) to take care of the painting. We are putting 3 layers of new epoxy (International GelShield 200) and 2 layers of hard paint. Hopefully, Polar Seal’s hull will be totally barnacle-proof as we hit the Atlantic Ocean and the West coast of Europe this summer! Mit der WAUQUIEZ Pilot Saloon 40 haben wir das ideale Reiseschiff gefunden, das uns immer komfortabel und sicher begleitet. Dabei lassen wir uns gerne Zeit für die ausgiebige Erkundung einzelner Regionen und hetzten nicht im Rekordtempo um die Welt. Nach einem Jahr in der Türkei und fast drei Jahren in Griechenland haben wir 2018 unserem YouTube-Kanal ANNAMERA SAILING gelauncht. In etwa monatlicher Folge dokumentieren wir Reiseabschnitte und Entdeckungen und versuchen dabei, Segeln auch für Nichtsegler nachvollziehbar zu machen… Nach der Durchquerung des Mittelmeeres begann auf dem Atlantik ein spannender neuer Abschnitt, mit langen Segelpassagen und der Erkundung der Atlantikinseln: Kanaren, Madeira und des Azorenarchipels. Die Karibik ist unser nächstes Ziel. Wie lange wir dort bleiben und wohin es von dort weiter geht, werden wir entscheiden, wenn es soweit ist. voici un petit compte rendu de notre passage aux saintes. Nous y sommes resté quelques jours sur bouée au bourg ainsi qu'au pain de sucre. Nous y avons retrouvé mathieu et mona sur leur catamaran qui nous ont gentiment ramené notre annexe que nous avions acheté d'occasion en martinique. Nous avons crapahuté sur les hauteurs pour admirer les beaux points de vue de l'ile ( fort napoléon et le chameau). Nous avons également fait pas mal de snorkling sur l'ile car les eaux sont magnifiques. Malheureusement une houle de nord a rendu le mouillage trés inconfortable et nous avons du partir vers la cote sous le vent de la guadeloupe.
