This week we share the general plans of sailing to Florida as well as show how we make GREAT coffee on board our boat. If you are new to our channel, my wife and I make videos every Friday about our lifestyle living aboard our classic sailboat with our two grandsquids. Years ago, we planned to sail our way around to Florida and weren't staying in any one location for more than six months. As we went through the process of helping out our grandchildren and going through that effort, we stayed in one place for stability and family reasons. We continued to work on the boat and prep for this move east, knowing that we would eventually make it. The time is getting close, and I share candidly what our plans are and how we are thinking about our modified cruising life with a 13 and five-year-old in our Sequel of life. I also share with you how I make coffee on board our boat (and frankly when I travel, or we are in the RV as well) This is a great way to make delicious coffee that is easy, cost-effective and uses little to no electricity (none of you have a gas stove). I use the following products, manual burr grinder, gooseneck tea kettle, and either a french press or pour over. I like to mix it up and a bit and do both. Bia hơi ("hơi" means gas, "bia" is from French bière, "beer"), is a type of draught beer popular in Vietnam. ... It is a very light (~3% alcohol) refreshing lager at a fraction of the cost of draft or bottled beer in the Western-style bars. In the early 1800s, the French brought beer to Vietnam; however, beer was expensive and for only a few. But that all changed in the late 1950s when the Hanoi Brewing Factory began producing a cheap, refreshing beer so EVERYONE could cool down with a cold glass after a hard day’s work. Bia Hơi is available throughout Vietnam and is found in small bars and on street corners. The beer is brewed daily, then matured for a short period and once ready, each bar gets a fresh batch delivered every day in steel barrels. Bia hơi is a simple beer and production is not monitored by any health agency which makes it a fraction of the cost of draft or bottled beer in the Western-style bars..It is typically priced between 3000vnd and 5000vnd which is equivalent to 16 US cents to 21 US cents per 12oz serving. The tiny island of Culebra packs a big punch - From the incredibly clear and beautiful greeny-blue water full of sea life to the numerous chill bars with easy dinghy access, we couldn't have asked for more from our very first Puerto Rican experience. While there, we also paid a visit to the fabulous and highly recommended Zaco's Tacos, and to be sure they weren't just having a good day we dutifully returned two more times - solely for research purposes only - And we can say with confidence that it's as good as everyone claims 😜. This episode starts out with our fast, 300 mile sail from Guadeloupe, a beautiful passage made in record time. Then we dive and eat our way through Culebra - With the former turning out to be unexpectedly gorgeous. We leave Black Point and head 10.5 miles South to Little Farmer’s Cay, a small island settlement with a couple of restaurants, a few shops and a harbour full of marine life. We spend a couple of days here wandering through town and checking out the surrounding snorkel spots and restaurants. Our last night anchored on the West side of the island we experience one of the most magical, serene moments of our adventure. We’re in complete awe of our surroundings - the silent air and incredibly still water underneath a golden sunset.
