At last! We are finally sailing after spending 8 years restoring this boat, which we purchased after the 2011 Brisbane floods. This video is of our first day of our first season cruising up the Queensland coast. We sail from Mooloolaba and anchor for the night at Double Island Point. Yes, the boat was an absolute mess when we bought it and had to be completely gutted, new deck, new rigging, new electrics, new motor. I'll be uploading a video down the track, which is mostly just photos, with the "before" shots and a some videos later in the restoration project.

We had a great time sailing through the Sandy Straights now we head from Hervey Bay to Bundaberg. Weather not ideal but we made good time motor sailing.

Sailing to Lady Musgrave Island had been on the "bucket list" for quite some time. Weather was still cold and windy though. After an exciting crossing from Bundaberg, we caught a fish on the way over! First catch of the season on our new handline. It was everything I expected and more on and around Lady Musgrave. We finally got some good weather and enjoyed a few days snorkelling, even swam with a turtle! The island itself was great to visit too with an abundance of bird life, coral beaches and dense green trees throughout the island.

After a road trip in Hiva Oa we set sail to the Tuamostus. These atolls are a hot spot for scuba diving. All of the islands of the Tuamotus are coral atolls, essentially high sand bars built upon coral reefs. They are a navigational nightmare but we made it in one piece! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! In this vlog I fly a plane over London and see the Queen of England face to face....what. The Hostel I stayed in is call Rest Up Hostel. I booked it on AirBnb. It's a very big hostel with a cafe, luggage lockers, and more. It's a great way to meet people, but I don't recommend it for groups. The showers are difficult because they're so tiny and as far as hostels go, this one is expensive. There's also a lot of children in huge school groups staying here and that can get loud. I booked my private flight through AirBnb as well, but you can go through the Wingly app to save money. My pilot was Matthew and he flies out of Blackbush Airport and I can't recommend him enough. He went above and beyond! The Kayaking tour was booked on AirBnb as well, but you can go directly through "The Pirate Castle" in Camden. They also offer stand up paddle boards. You get to paddle through London Zoo and see the animals from the canals! London is pretty expensive so I don't recommend traveling alone. Get a few friends and share the cost of accommodation. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Welcome to the trailer for our upcoming series where we sail the french canals. The problem is that we have. 12m sail boat with a 16m mast. This means we have to remove the mast and carry it on deck. 250 miles, 120 locks through historic locks and canals. All done in one month. Enjoy and subscribe so that you don’t miss a thing.

We get to Linton Bay and anchor and head to Sabanitas where all the supermarkets are, about 90 minutes away. But we are in for a tragedy. The supermarket does not have Oreos and Margarida's smile evaporates. It is a sad time until she brightens up and realises we can go to the other supermarket in town where yes oh yes we find the holy grail. We use up our entire budget on groceries hoping to stay away for months...we need to save up for a lift and hardstand fees and the canal crossing. We set sail as soon as the groceries are packed and hope for some large Colombian swell to hit us during our journey. Alas this doesn't eventuate with Margarida being very thankful of that. And we finally arrive in San Blas again where I show you the best way to enter the maze of reefs is. It was a great sail but we wake the next morning to a problem no woman can put up with. Our bedroom has saltwater leaking into it so somewhere from the toe rail to the staunchions to the chainplates there is a small crack and we must find it. We both rip out the wooden trim on the toe rail and search and repair with Margarida working like a workhorse. Hopefully our repairs will do the trick. Give it thumbs a up if you liked this episode! Qingdao is an incredible city offering so many places to play outdoors. We love to take our road bikes out and discover new areas and meet other cyclists. The Laoshan Scenic Area seaside ocean road is TripAdvisor's #1 attraction in Qingdao so you MUST NOT miss it if you are in Qingdao and this video provides maps and instructions on how to do it and what you will see. This was our first time getting through the guard gate entering the Laoshan Mountain area and exiting out the other gate. We call this the "Forbidden Road" because cyclists are not allowed after the guard gate opens at 7 am because there is no shoulder to the road for cyclists to ride on so if you want to ride it or drive it without a fee, cross the gate before 7 am. It was a VERY hilly, undulating ride. We struggled with the many 15-20% graded hills, but we persisted. The scenery along the coast from guard gate to guard gate is barred none some of the most beautiful coastlines I have ever experienced and the ride is challenging and interesting. We love it and it has become our favorite ride in Qingdao. Once we leave the coast and get on the "Provincial Road" to we pass over another mountain which is the steepest to head back home. Next time, we might go and return on the same seaside road. This is definitely a must-see when you visit Qingdao. O Roger é um amigo carioca que construiu um Tiki 30, o Tiki Rio. Antes de começar a construção do meu, fui conhecer onde ele construía o dele. Na época eu ainda trabalhava embarcado e ia para o Rio de Janeiro com bastante frequência. Infelizmente o Roger escolheu uma semana fria e chuvosa para me visitar e conseguimos fazer poucas coisas com relação ao barco. A amarração dos lemes foi muito legal e mudou completamente a cara do barco!
