After arriving at Chesterfield Reef from a 3 night sail from New Caledonia we explore the 11 islands and witness turtles nesting, thousands of birds and some of the nicest beaches with sparkling clear blue water. We snorkel and scuba dive several bommies in the lagoon in crystal clear water with some of the best visibility possible. We see many sharks, abundant fish life, pristine coral and some very curious and friendly sea snakes. After nearly a week exploring, its then time to head back home to Bundaberg Australia

Afternoon street flying

Our shakedown cruise continues... and comes to an early end. Problems with the marine head cause us to rethink continuing on up the New England coast. Captain Jack is not feeling well, also, so we make the decision to abort the sailing trip early. We travel from Sandy Hook, NJ across the Raritan Bay into New York Harbor. I set out on my first test sail. After fiddling around with the engine we soon get underway. The wind was around 15kts but eventually died down to 4-8kts. The sails went up easily and got us moving right along. I also tested the tiller pilot and chartplotter that came with the boat. I think those will come in handy. My first impressions of the boat are very good. The motion feels a little more dampend than my Ranger 23 but the tiller steering still provided a nice connection to the water and a responsive feel. We sailed around for a few hours and had some drinks and snacks before heading back in. It was a pleasant surprise that everything went so smoothly. I was expecting a lot more stuff to go wrong or break. I'm looking forward to getting this boat out in some stronger conditions to see what she can really do.
