Do you have a dream? I have many, but one is to race the Mini Transat. It's a race from France to the Carribean on open 6.5 meters sailing boats. To get on the start line I need a boat, time and a space to train, prepare the boat and participate into the qualification races. It's called a campaign, and I need to finance it. **NOW SOLD** The Huon Kelly is a Cloudy Bay 30 Pilot House motor sailor. Designed by Terry Lean and built by The Wooden Boat Centre, Franklin Tasmania, this is a stunning Huon Pine motor sailor launched in just 2006 and is a testament to the continuing skills of Tasmania’s boat builders. This is a classic vessel with the huge benefit of being a new build. The Huon Kelly has just enjoyed a significant refit in 2019 further modernising and updating. Over 15,000 hours went into the crafting of The Huon Kelly. Planking is of course in Huon Pine and her ribs, backbone and keel are of Tasmanian Blue Gum. Bronze support frames attached to the Blue Gum frames add further strength around the keelson. There is 2.5 tonnes of single cast lead ballast which is through bolted to the keelson. The teak decks have been beautifully laid and well kept. The deep secure aft cockpit with fold away seating leads forward to a deck level enclosed wheel house with side bunks / settees, two forward facing captains’ seats and an internal helm to starboard. Steps lead to the galley to starboard, double V berth and enclosed head. The vessel can be helmed also via a beautiful removable tiller arm in the cockpit where there is also a second throttle control. Engine access is simple and generous both by opening the saloon floor and the forward stairs. This is a true pilot house with hydraulic wheel steering in the protected saloon with wrap around protected views. A bow thruster makes for stress free manoeuvring in tight marinas. Electronics include the Raymarine colour V9 chart plotter in the wheelhouse plus a Course master autopilot. There is a Webasto diesel heater. The Huon Kelly is powered by a Yanmar 54Hp shaft drive with only around 526 hours. We cruised during our test run at 7.1 knots / 2500 rpm and reached 7.7 knots at just under 3000rpm. The two 150 litre fuel tanks make this a genuine motor sailor. The 2019 refit included: new standing rigging, new covers, new Force 10 stove, most sea-cocks replaced, new anchor locker drains and cockpit drains, new start battery, new mast lights (LED), mast wiring, VHF antenna, new saloon cushions and upholstery, new bow mattress and upholstery, gas certification work, strip / prep / paint mast, new Baby Blake porcelain and mahogany toilet ($9400+ supply cost only) with new holding tank, new Battery and tank monitor, cabin lights converted to LED.

We are on the last leg of our journey to our home town of Airlie Beach, we can almost see it in the distance, but again, we are becalmed. There is not much sailing in B.C. in the summer months, but there us surely great wild life! We travel from Cameleon Harbour onward to Spout Bay where we are greeted by a mystic foggy landscape. End of September Anke and I return to Lanzarote in and sail the coast of Fuerteventura for a week. First we are sailing to Gran Tarrajal, where we take a rental car and explore the island. Then we cruise via Puerto del Rosario to the island of Lobos, where we do an anchor stop. Finally, we are mooring in Corralejo. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over several days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
