After an aggressive couple weeks, everything has been put into motion. We are doing our best to stay true to the challenge, so film time may be brief. That being said, climb aboard for our first look at this cheap catamaran! Meet Mahi Mahi: This vessel is a 1962 42' (48' LOA) CSK Catamaram built by Rudy Choy himself. There is some pretty awesome history to go along with it, but we will cover that in a separate video. Mahi Mahi has had a rough life, so there is plenty of work to be done. Between her age, and the poor repairs made by the last owner, we have taken on the challenge of repairing several soft areas in Mahogany Wood Hull, separated and broken ribs, and many other urgent issues. Over the last year, we have had 5 or 6 close calls with holes opening up along previously repaired areas. Some leaks filled our hulls to chest height with water, but Mahi managed pulled through each time. Our goal for this project is to build her up from the ribs and stringers into a fully functioning liveaboard vessel, with a total price of $50k. After waiting for better weather for 2 days the wind had come down a little and the reports promised even lighter winds during the day, so we left the marina of Naxos even if there was still pretty gnarly waves... We had not decided if we would go to Mykonos for a party, or if we should turn west towards Kythnos when we left, but we soon found out that going to Mykonos would be several hours banging into the waves by motoring. On our way, winds were changing constantly... We had everything from light winds to strong gusts and scary waves. We set off from Mary Bay on the island of Santa Ana and head for Star Harbour on Makira Province, hoping to get some food and an internet connection. We left Star Harbour very early in the morning due to security issues, setting sail towards The Three Sister Islands off the coast. We had to change our plans when a heavy rain squall hit us as we neared the land. Our next stop was to be in Selwyn Bay at Uki Ni Masi Island. From there an overnight stop on the eastern end of Makira Island at Marau Bay before the short sail to Marau Sound and Tavanipupu Island. We share some of the past history of the island, which doesn't appear to get many visitors these days.

Und auf einmal ist sie da. Ich hatte seit Januar 2016 die Vermutung, und im August 2016 erhielt ich offiziell die Diagnose Amyotrophe Lateralsklerose, kurz ALS. Irgendwie ist es dann auch gut, wenn es geklärt ist. Dennoch, als ich meinen Namen auf einem Brief gelesen habe, zusammen mit der Diagnose ALS, hatte das eine neue Qualität bekommen. Ein unfassbar hilfloses Gefühl hatte mich erfasst. Kontrollverlust. Und dann ist sie da und geht nicht mehr weg. Es brauchte eine Weile mich aufzuräumen und zu verstehen, dass sich im Prinzip nichts geändert hat. Dass das Leben immer tödlich endet, ist keine neue Erkenntnis. Es verläuft jetzt anders als der Plan. Aber ich will mich nicht jetzt schon über Zukünftiges ärgern. Das raubt meine Zeit und es läuft eh anders als geplant. Kommt Problem, kommt Lösung. Vorsorge ist getroffen, Angelegenheiten geregelt, dann komm doch... Das Schicksal hat mir im August 2016 die Glocke geläutet. Die Verkündung der Diagnose war eine Zäsur, meine persönliche Stunde Null. Ab diesem Tag begann für mich und meine Familie eine neue Zeitrechnung. Dieses Video gibt einen chronologischen Einblick in mein erstes Jahr mit der Diagnose ALS.
