On this particular sail, we began with 20-22kts of apparent wind as we close reached out of the bay. About half way through the video we move to a broad reach to downwind with nearly the same apparent. Sea state grew to a nice 2m swell pushing us west to our destination of San Juan. It's the beginning of the pandemic and as sailors we are grounded at anchor or at the marina. Cargo is still being unloaded, but a cruise ship and super yacht could not disembark. With luck, I move into the marina and it's a game changer. Shore power, water and hot shower. As well as easy access to land. So I can buy food and see the city empty like never before. We discover the unique Boysie Cay then have a sunset spa on the aft deck. From Rudder Cay, our intention was to go directly to George Town, 25nm to the SE. But after just 5nm curiosity got the better of us and we diverted for a lunch stop behind Boysie Cay. Boysie Cay had several unique features: a blow spout, a small wave pool connected through a narrow gap to the Atlantic swell and a sandy peninsula jutting out into the crystal blue water. Square Rock island, Rat Cay and Pigeon Cays were also interesting to visit. The weather conditions were absolutely idyllic, so we decided so stay the night. And as we had total privacy too, Oana was treated to a hot spa on the aft deck, in the late afternoon sun. It was a very memorable day for us. 15 Feb 2020

The harsh reality is that even the highest of academic qualifications is seldom sufficient to open the doors of a yacht brokerage, gifting you with an automatic position as even a junior broker. The most important assets that a brokerage house looks for are: - relevant connections - your knowledge of yachts and the yachting industry - a proven ability to network - successful experience in sales Depending on how effective you are at developing the above criteria, it can take years to gain sufficient connections, industry knowledge, and sales ability to satisfy the requirements of a brokerage house. Consider this as your apprenticeship period. With this in mind, from the moment you land in your yachting destination it is advisable to start to build your yacht brokerage assets. How can you do that? One of the most popular methods of getting into the yachting industry for young people is to work as crew on a yacht. There are some significant advantages to this approach. The entire yachting industry centres around one thing only, and that is the yacht. Yacht owners come to their yacht, yacht builders visit yachts, yacht brokers, suppliers, yacht crew, just about everybody. By working on a yacht you will have positioned yourself at the very heart of the industry so that people will come to you without you having to go to them. It is a wonderful place to pick up market intelligence, you get to know people, but above all you start to become known. Who knows you, is every bit as important as who you know. When the day arrives that you want to present yourself for the position of yacht broker in an organisation the question will be asked “does anybody know this person?”, and “Ive never heard of him is the worst possible reply. Please note: Ironically, you DO increasingly need qualifications to become a crew member on a yacht - but it’s a lot easier to get those than it is to walk into a brokerage and get offered a position. Working as crew is not the only way to get into the inner sanctum of the yachting industry though, you may be amazed at how many businesses exist that serve the yachting industry. To get your foot on the first rung that leads to a career as a yacht broker may take a little humility, and the ability to accept a role that you consider yourself to be overqualified for. Sometimes you have to take one step backwards in order to take ten steps forward! There is absolutely no shame in offering your services to a company who cleans carpets on yachts for example - you’ll meet yacht Captains yacht crew, get on board some amazing yachts and start to make connections and start to make a name for yourself in the industry. Thank you for watching! In this episode, you can see the troubles we had to get into Martinique after fighting the waves and currents "the wrong way" for 15 days. We sailed probably more than 2000 Nautical miles nonstop from Panama to Martinique through the whole Caribbean sea, after the Panama Canal was closed due to COVID. Being stuck in Panama for one more season was not tempting, and with the hurricane season getting closer it was time to leave if we should not be trapped for another season south of 10 degrees north. For us, it seems more reasonable to sail back home to Europe until the world gets back to normal again. So in this episode, we start our crazy long journey of 7-8000 Nautical miles back home to Europe. And it was not without problems and challenges. Shelley comes back on board after being denied at the airport in Panama, in her attempt to fly back home to Holland. When we arrived Martinique we where denied access to due to new french rules excluding boats sailing with Norwegian flag! Martinique is considered as part of Europe in terms of being french and following french regulations and the EU. So why was a Norwegian flagged boat suddenly considered as not part of Europe anymore? 3 avril, hier soir notre premier crachin de pluie conjecturait des heures de garde et les apparences n’étaient pas trompeuses. Jusqu’au petit matin des formations de grains n’ont cessé d’encercler notre navire mais une aura particulière semble les détourner de notre route. Black Lion serait-il muni d’un dôme protecteur pour dissuader les antagonistes de s’approcher trop près de nous ? L’idée me plait et devant la houle qui se creuse, j’ai envie de croire à cet illusoire bouclier. Le portant nous a quitté depuis pas mal de temps et le bon plein n’est plus qu’un souvenir, la satanée dépression qui était en formation plus sud perturbe notre vent et nous fait maintenant naviguer au près. C’est la chiotte ! Je dirais même plus, ça part en cacahuète ! Oui, les amis, en cacahuète ! Nous sommes de plus en plus ballottés et je sens régulièrement mon estomac se soulever. En ayant effectué 135 milles ces dernières vingt-quatre heures uniquement avec le foc et un ris dans la grand-voile, nous ne sommes plus qu’à 450 milles de Mahé. Cependant avec ces conditions moins favorables et ce fichu courant qui ne cesse d’augmenter, notre trajectoire s’incline plus Ouest-sud-ouest, direct Réunion à 1200 milles ! Entre la météo et le problème mondial actuel, l’histoire commence sérieusement à se compliquer. Au pire, comme nous a écrit un ami coincé lui en Indonésie, avec toutes les frontières autour de nous qui se ferment, nous avons la solution de faire comme Moitessier dans la longue route, et passer deux ou trois mois à naviguer en attendant la réouverture des ports ! Il y a à cette éventualité, plusieurs points positifs. Le premier, nous serons sûr de ne pas être contagieux, et de contaminer personne, le second, vu nos réserves, au bout d’un mois, nous allons commencer à maigrir et le troisième en attendant, nous ne dépensons rien ! Alors certes, nous appréhendons de nous reconnecter physiquement au monde mais envisager un trimestre en mer, surtout sur un océan comme aujourd’hui, c’est juste impensable ! Mais puisque nous sommes vouez à nous laisser guider par notre providence, on ne sait pour combien de temps, au risque de dévoiler au grand jour notre divagation progressive, mon imaginateur toujours disposer à ajouter de l’originalité à ses épisodes, vient d’avoir l’idée de contrefaire burlesquement l’émission de Koh Lanta ! Et bien les cocos, ça promet ! Malgré nos démences passagères qui nous détendent, nous sommes dans une journée « bof ! » ! Une sorte de bourdon transitoire, entre le beau temps et la grisaille, entre le calme et l’agitation, entre notre plaisir d’être en mer et notre besoin de savoir où l’on va ! Ce pauvre exocet lui, le savait peut-être où il allait ! Quelle poisse ! Il vient de s’écraser lamentablement sur le pont de Black Lion ! La probabilité était de combien pour qu’il finisse splashait sur du dur ? Lui qui, libre, plane quand nager ne lui dit plus rien. Je le vois encore, victorieux, s’élancer dans les airs en chantant… « I am Flying, i am flying… » ! Retourne à ton élément petit poisson, nous ne t’oublierons pas ! Nous sommes réellement en train de divaguer, maintenant, nous parlons aux poissons, ça craint les copains ! La luminosité baisse, avec elle dans un gris-rosé d’énormes cumulonimbus s’élèvent. Que cette puissance est belle ! Elle est admirable autant que prodigieuse ! Fascinés, nous savons que la nuit va être mouvementé…

4 avril, nous avions dit mouvementé ? À regarder nos têtes, le mot est approprié. Mon pauvre capitaine est exténué ! Je crois que s’il le pouvait, il ferait « bouffer » l’alarme à son radar ! La « beugleuse » tintinnabule toutes les quinze minutes depuis douze heures. Vous allez nous dire que nous aurions très bien pu l’éteindre, c’est vrai, mais finalement la braillarde ne fait que son travail et son son strident, nous tient en alerte ! Les grains sans nous charger, nous ont frôlé toute la nuit et Black Lion s’est amusé à slalomer entre des vagues fâcheusement provocatrices ! À neuf heures nous avons bougé de 117,2 milles et nous avons le sentiment d’être retenu dans les mailles d’un immense filet. Avec ce vent soutenu, nous devrions être entre 8 et 9 nœuds mais nous arrivons difficilement à 4 ou 5. Le courant nous met au supplice, en plus de nous aiguillonner vers un cap que nous ne voulons pas prendre, il se permet d’opprimer la grande bleue pour la manœuvrer à sa guise. Il est odieux et fourbe, crispant son hôte au point, qu’exacerbée, elle explose dans un amalgame confus en abusant de notre patience ! À onze heures, aux 3º2'855 S et 61º0'136 E, nous écumons notre première pluie précédée d’un vent à 30 nœuds ! La conjoncture pensant certainement que mon récit allait manquer d’action, elle ajoute sur notre traceur, deux signaux AIS de pêcheurs. Comment lui expliquer que sans ça, je peux m’arranger pour développer ma prose ? Il va falloir maintenant jongler avec notre direction qui nous dirige vers les pescadoux, les menaces du ciel et notre cahotage qui s’éternise un peu trop à mon goût. Fatalité, les embarcations prisent elles aussi dans le torrent, changent de route et nous laissent à notre bourrasque. Soulagés de ne plus avoir nos inquisiteurs, nous poursuivons mais la traque climatique persiste ! Elle se pérennise pour durer en se renforçant ! Moi qui me persuadais que la cuirasse de notre félin faisait fuir le mauvais temps, je me trompais ! Il s’aggrave, s’intensifie. Les échos viennent de toutes parts et maintenant prennent un malin plaisir de nous pourchasser. Une fois sur nous, ils s’élèvent, s’assombrissent et dans un bouquant assourdissant, libèrent tous leurs artifices. Quelle n’est pas notre désillusion, l’océan indien nous fait volte-face ! Nous avons été abusés, les deux tiers de notre traversée ne sont que dissimulation pour mieux trahir notre confiance !
