We bought our new to us Jeanneau 34.2 'Daphi' 2 days before the lockdown began, and since then have only been able to spend the odd day on board due to the lockdown restrictions. Well as of the 4th July these restrictions were being eased so we grabbed the opportunity of: - a) being allowed to move her b) some favourable tides and c) a good weather window to do just that, and sail her back from the river Dart in the west country to our home waters, the river Medway on the East coast. We left the marina for a taste of freedom and spent our first night at anchor in five months. But after our first taste of freedom, we were told we didn't have permission to stay there. A ranger from the marine park explained we must have a permit to anchor there. We didn't have one so we had to move on. We found a safe spot on the other side of Gaya Island to shelter from an advancing weather system. It was a beautiful and natural bay, with eagles flying above, turtles swimming below, pristine rainforest and a healthy mangrove swamp along its northern shore. We kayaked in the mangrove and took our time to relax at anchor after five months in a marina. Peace and fair winds! We head over to Blue Lagoon and spend a few nights there then across to a real Instagramers paradise called Butterfly Valley! Apparently this is a real hotspot for social media tycoons. We were told this is normally completely packed with hundreds of day boats, THOUSANDS of people and full of yachts with no where to anchor but, we are completely alone!
