PEPLINK For me to be connected while being out sailing, Peplink is a must for me to keep my costs down. Yes it costs money to purchase Peplink's gear but it will save you many many times that by allowing you to connect cheaply to the internet via wifi or sim card before you actually need to engage starlink. It really is a no-brainer! Check out PEPLINK here https://www.peplink.com/ Check out the routers here https://www.peplink.com/products/mobile-routers/ Check out the special dome antennae that can keep you connected up to 70km off shore. https://www.peplink.com/products/enterprise-mobility/dome-pro-lr/ Yes I know they say on the website that it connects you up to 40km off shore but I spoke to Peplink's spokesperson and on recent tests it was keeping them connected up to 70km off shore. Now that is connectivity! Thank you Peplink for coming on board for the Elcano World Challenge. Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode! A bientôt. Everyone enjoys seeing dolphins round their boat. And it seems catamarans attract more dolphins than monohulls. Presumably because the two bows are more fun to play with - and yes dolphins definitely play on the bow waves. We've seen two swim fast under the bridgedeck from port stern to starboard bow and vice versa, crossing underneath and seeing how close to the bow they could get. And we've seen the other dolphins clearly laughing at the one who hit our bow when cutting it too fine. That didn't happen this time, but here's a recent video taken when sailing our 30ft Sagitta catamaran from Fowey to Plymouth. Unusually for the English Channel it was clear, flat water so we could watch them easily.
Since we were working on the daggerboards again this week, I took some time to go over why we choose to have daggerboards on S/V Lynx instead of mini keels. But, we also got a lot of work done on the boat! So come join Captain Blood, Admiral Marianne, and our XO, Brian as we build our 50' performance cruising catamaran for a circumnavigation voyage. We're leaving Scawfell Island and setting off on a 120 nautical mile journey to Island Head Creek.. Normally, we’d stop and explore the islands along the way but this time, we’ve got a short weather window to make it south, so we’re sailing non-stop, all day and all night, before eventually moving on to the Keppel Islands. An unforgettable moment from our Papua New Guinea expedition — sailing home on a traditional outrigger canoe skimming the reef edge of Panasia Island. The wind, the waves, the craftsmanship — all pure island spirit. 🌴 This clip is from Episode 18 – “Adventures in a Traditional Sailing Canoe”, where we uncover hidden skull caves, explore remote islands, and share stories of ancient traditions with the local chief and villagers. 👉 Watch the full adventure here: 🎥 Adventures in a Traditional Sailing Canoe (Ep18) 📍 Panasia Island, Louisiade Archipelago – Papua New Guinea 🛶 Traditional Canoe | Reef Sailing | Remote Island Culture #PapuaNewGuinea #TraditionalCanoe #IslandAdventure #SailingLife #PacificIslands #CulturalJourney #LouisiadeArchipelago #PNGIslands #ReefSailing #OceanAdventure #TribalCulture #TravelShorts #AdventureTravel #SailingVlog #ExploreMore

In our latest Dreamtime Sail episode we show how we find safe anchorages in uncharted, remote coral reef areas. Sail along with us as we day hop around the eastern peninsular of Central Sulawesi from Luwuk, fighting currents and adverse winds on our way to the Togean Islands. We go into detail on how we select anchorages in remote areas using satellite imagery and onsite dinghy surveys with a hand held depth gauge.

Think you need a massive yacht to live the dream on the water? Bigger isn't always better. Many of the most rewarding adventures happen on compact, capable sailboats that are affordable, easy to handle, and surprisingly comfortable. In this video, we're sharing our list of 20 of the best compact sailboats (mostly under 35 feet) that you can comfortably live on. These are proven designs, from legendary bluewater bruisers like the Westsail 32 to surprisingly roomy coastal cruisers like the Catalina 30. Each of these boats proves you don’t need fifty feet of fiberglass to find freedom and a home afloat. One minute we’re out here sailing, the next we’re crawling through the belly of a nuclear-powered beast that can disappear beneath the waves for months at a time. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Canon sir and 360 Ace 2 Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
