Only 3 days after finishing up our rigging we decided to give it a good test… a 360 mile test sail in fact in St Martin. We were both very excited to undertake e a multi day passage and chose a longer passage mainly for this reason. Our other deciding factor during these uncertain times was finding a place that accepted visitors with minimal PCR tests required. St Martin ticked these box. After checking out of Grenada, we got the boat ready to leave for a multi day passage. We were a little rusty while hosting all sails, we got them set and settled in to enjoy the ride. Within our first 24 hours we saw a range of wind and sea states and our first night was a bit of an induction of fire. Our first 24 hours saw us sailing over 140 miles and as the sun set the afternoon of the second day, we neared Domenica, in the middle of the island chain. Season 7 : Episode #165 : Bound for the Northern Channel Islands Hello Friends, On this weeks episode we depart for a 10 day trip to explore the Northern Channel Islands; San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz & Anacapa. These Islands are wild and lack facilities of any kind and the winds blowing down from Point Conception can make San Miguel and Santa Rosa very dangerous at times. We had delayed our departure by 3 days due to high winds and after I felt the seas had had time to calm down after the blow we departed on a flat ocean with no wind to speak of, which was great because we were heading into the prevailing winds and currents. We had a easy passage of 97 nautical miles in 19 hours of motor sailing. Only at the end did the winds increase and force us to duck into Morse Point on Santa Cruz Island. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. The Meri Crew sails offshore from VA to FL. We leave Hampton VA where the weather is getting downright cold and head south on the Atlantic ocean. After a four day passage we arrive in Florida where it is shorts and T-shirt weather. Along the way we have a night of bad weather, but also some great sailing and overall a fine passage.

Well this is a first for us, Calico Skies is setting out to sea for an eight hundred mile passage without Grace onboard. What?! Ya! In this episode, Grace joins the S/V Delos crew to help sail her back to the US and play with little Miss Nugget. Always up for an adventure, Bill has volunteered to sail Calico Skies to the U.S solo. We believe in challenging ourselves and continuously trying new things. For Grace that's an offshore passage on a boat other than Calico Skies and for Bill that's aiming to beat his solo sailing record by over 400 miles. Thanks to Covid, we've spent three unplanned months in the Ragged Islands, so Calico Skies is pretty low on diesel. Motoring, therefore, must be kept to a minimum on this 800 mile passage but predicted weather looks good for our sail around Cape Hatteras and straight into the Chesapeake Bay. Compounding the fuel issue is the fact that our Honda 2000 generator has finally died. Calico Skies will need to charge the batteries with the engine to in order to use the nav instruments and most important to a single hander - The autopilot. None of us could have imagined what the outcome of these passages would be - It certainly wasn’t what we planned.
