Those fancy 1920's ladies were definitely on to something!!!! The original recipe was created in 1915 at the Long Bar at The Raffles Hotel, Singapore. You can still order one today. It contains gin, cherry liqueur, Cointreau, DOM Benedictine, grenadine, pineapple juice, lime juice, angostura bitters, shaken, no ice. We kept it simple with (this is one serving- sip it slow...you've been warned!) 1 and 1/2 shots gin 1/2 shot cherry brandy 1/2 shot Drambuie (because we couldn't find Benedictine on Grenada) a couple dashes of angostura bitters and a couple more of orange bitters- we really like The Bitter Truth brand...especially the orange- it's very versatile, making it a great bar addition. We went for a a couple big square ice cubes, topped with soda water and some maraschino cherries. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Once we can get that up and over, we can bolt the two together. But working with pieces over our heads which weigh 300 pounds? (150kg) We have to come up with lots of interesting ways to manage doing that with just the two of us. We also go through the effort to make sure the hulls are properly aligned, which means moving the port side hull forward *just a touch*. Once have made the measurements (in metric) that everything is where it is supposed to be, we use a water level to make sure both hulls are level with each other. We hope you enjoy! In 1997, after missing out on his Olympic rowing medal dream, Rob decided to row a tiny seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing. Skip forward to 2014, and married with three children we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 16 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. On running up my Lombardini 903 i noticed water dripping from impeller housing. Quick investigation and realized the pump was leaking. Quick bit of googling at Lombardini and Johnson and £400 plus. No service kits available. Luckily the seal had codes and measurements on and landed one for £3.10. Here is me installing and reassembling. Little bit caveman but wanted to show that ANYONE can do this rather than buy a new pump at crazy prices!!

Se avete visto il vlog uscito un paio di settimane fa in cui vi mostro una giornata di studio di 12 ore, sapete che studiare così tanto per me non é la norma ma qualcosa che faccio in via eccezionale quando ne ho la necessità. Infatti, mi preme precisare che non consiglio di studiare 12 ore al giorno per periodi prolungati, in quanto ritengo che possa essere nocivo per la salute fisica e mentale. La vita deve essere equilibrata! Day 5 Update: Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove earn a place in the medal race final at the 49er Olympic qualifier in Lanzarote and Ireland move a step closer to securing a place at the Tokyo Olympics today. They held on to their third overall place in the Gold fleet though sailed three more conservative races. The Dublin crew were aiming to avoid a repeat of their previous two race disqualifications for early starting with 13-11-8 scored for the day, their first time in this regatta that they had placed outside the top ten. Crucially, their results assure them of a place in Friday afternoon’s medal race final that follows the final fleet race in the morning. Meanwhile, Ireland’s other crew are also hoping to reach the medal race final as Ryan Seaton with Séafra Guilfoyle had a 18-16-4 for the day. The pair dropped to eleventh overall and Friday’s single fleet race will be an all or nothing attempt to place at the front of the fleet. Belgium and Italy remain strong contenders for the single remaining place at Tokyo 2021 with all needing concerted efforts to overtake Dickson and Waddilove who have led these stakes since the start of the week. “Rob and Sean made the correct call to take a conservative approach to the day’s racing, striking a good balance between scoring well and not risking their points advantage,” commented James O’Callaghan, Irish Sailing’s Performance Director. “The goal at this event remains Olympic qualification and that will inform strategy; whether or not they achieve a podium result this week is irrelevant." The single fleet race for the 49er class will be sailed in the morning before the boats return to Playa Blanca. The top ten crews will then return to sea in the afternoon for the short medal race that counts for double points. Go Ireland !

We ontdekken het prachtige stadje Ystad aan de Zweedse zuidkust en ontmoeten daar oude jeugdvriend Marcel, die jaren geleden naar Zweden emigreerde. Wat een geweldig weerzien. Met flinke wind zeilen we vervolgens naar Simrishamn. Deze haven aan de lagerwal varen we surfend op de golven binnen. Maar lang blijven we niet, want we zeilen door naar Klintholm op het Deense eiland Møn, waar we 's morgens vroeg uit bed worden gejaagd. Wij zijn Ben en Felia. Jaren hebben wij de droom gehad om samen over de wereld te zeilen. In mei 2020 zijn we aan dit grote avontuur begonnen. In onze Atlantic43, Eva genaamd, gaan wij waar de wind ons brengt. ( Discussion about how short our life is ) ====================================================== ABOUT ME Back in 2019 I decided I did not want to be a 9 to 5 type guy anymore. I got fed up with this rat race like routine city life and I got hooked on the idea of sailing and living on a boat full time. But with 0 (zero) expirience that would be difficult to achieve... I took a Transport Canada course and received my first boat license... I watched tons of boat related youtube videos and got myself registered with dozen sailing forums and groups on a facebook... In May 2020 I came across a facebook post. Sergey was looking for a crew to bring his boat to the Caribbean. I travelled 1300 km from Montreal to Halifax to join him on his boat. The trip was cancelled two months later for legitimate reasons. Since I made my way to Nova Scotia I decided to discover this beatiful province before going back to Montreal I have not given up on my dream of sailing. Because of this Corona virus situation in the world It is just being put on hold...
