I have spent countless hours, no, days and weeks trying to figure out how to legally sail my bot Japanese Registered sail boat offshore and to Canada. I naively thought that I could buy the boat of my choice and sail off into the sunset. Not so. At least not in Japan. This video is simply a summary of what I have learned so far. I realize that it is a unique subject and most will not be interested but in case there are others who are considering buying a Japanese boat to take offshore, I thought I would compile my thoughts in this video. While I am trying to navigate the Japanese and Canadian rules viz a viz pleasure boats, I am sailing the coast line of Japan experiencing its wonderfully secluded and beautiful harbors seeing Japan from a different perspective. I have cycled much of Japan`s coastline so to see those challenging hills from the `comfort` of the sea is fun!. I hope this video is helpful to some and is not meant to discourage but simply inform and perhaps enable someone to have an easier process of it than me. In this episode, Debbie and I try a new destination: Redondo Beach. We leave under a small craft advisory. Debbie takes the helm! Wind and swell are directly on our nose, which means we are bashing with the motor on to our destination. We have some epic dolphin sightings and see two mola mola. Unfortunately, the swells are a little much for the admiral and has to fight thru some seasickness. After some debate and turnabouts, we decide to press on for our destination. The moorings at Redondo Beach are cheap: $24 for up to 65-foot vessel. We were close to the bait barge and sea lion dock. It was a bit noisy, be we still enjoyed our stay. She is fairly comfortable with 15 to 20 kts of wind. Freshwater capacity to last over 2 weeks and a fuel range of 13 days steaming. About the Boat ''SY Red Current'' is a Southerly 31 with the construction of GRP and rigged as a sloop with Aluminium Mast. Her LOA is 31 feet and she has a beam of 10 feet with a draft of 7 feet. She also has an electric swing keel which makes her draft very shallow and easy to enter in shallow water.
