No, we ARE NOT giving up on the sailing dream for RV/Van life. We bought the cheapest new travel trailer we could find, a 2021 Coleman Lantern 17B from Gander RV during a Christmas/New Years sale for $9995.00, so that we could road trip all summer and get more boat tours filmed across the United States! Our plans were actually to do this last summer, but with the uncertainty of Covid, we decided against it. Well, the time is now, and we're super excited to get on the road. This is a video tour of the cheap camper in case you're interested. At the end of the video, we also go into some hints on our future boat and cruising plans. Sailing our Dufour 385 GL - ZOLIO - to the beautiful and well protected bay of Vivari in the Argolic bay in NE part of Peloponnese in Greece. In July 2020.

We chose an alternative living and bought a used sailboat in Med. We are first time boat owners, who quit our jobs and left our busy lives behind in California to start our long-awaited sailing adventure throughout the world. Our first stop is Istanbul, Turkey to visit family and friends. Afterwards we fly on to Zagreb, Croatia, and finally drive to our marina in Slano, just north of Dubrovnik. Like everything else in life, when you start digging beneath the surface, that is where you find the good stuff. It took us 5 years of dreaming, planning, saving, and 2 trips to Europe to find our dreamboat. In this video, we show our journey to our boat and what is involved to get a boat ready after winter in order to start the sailing season in 2021. In between our boat projects, repairs, and provisioning, we explored the local area of Peljesac peninsula where the famous Croatia wine Plaviac Mali (cousin of Zinfandel) is from. Also, the town of Ston is located here. The walls of Ston are a series of defensive stone walls about 7 kilometers long. After the Great Wall of China, the walls of Ston are the second-longest preserved fortification systems in the world. Finally, after all the prep work, we take Sea Bee out of the marina for a test sail to a nearby island and start planing a week-long sailing adventure to Mijet, Korchula, and Hvar. Keep in touch! Here’s a video showing our trip across the English Channel, from Jersey to Salcombe. The continuous furling line for our Facnor furler, used with our Code 0, jammed in the housing and tangled. The blood on the sails came from a skinned knuckle while making a repair. I had to wrestle the line back into place so that the sail could be furled. After that Carolyn and I lowered the Code 0’s halyard enough to allow us to pull the furler’s tack line loose. Once it was on deck we set it all up correctly again. All of this while sailing slowly in the wrong direction! It’s a testament to the Code 0 that we were able to catch up to Idril.

It’s taken a few months but I’ve worked up the courage to fly our drone over water. Carolyn has worked out an expert technique for catching the drone so we’ll have some sailing drony videos to share in short time. Regards, Rick and Carolyn.
