The best part about our amazing MacGregor (totally biased) is that it is teaching us so much every time we are on it. We think we have it all under control and we are navigating through the wind and then it taps you on the shoulder and says hello.🙋‍♀️ We hit some speeds and a hee and it brings us back into focus. It’s funny this 22 year old boat has a lesson for us every weekend. Die ANASTASIA von Skipper René Stein ist eine 48 Fuss Ketsch. Wir segeln in einem Wochentörn von Heiligenhafen über Gedser, Klintholm, Kloster, Barhöft und Warnemünde zurück nach Heiligenhafen. Ein sehr schöner Törn, ein toller Skipper, den ich zum ersten Mal kennengelernt habe. In diesem Teil seht Ihr Bilder aus der ersten vier Tage der Tour, in denen wir uns als neue Crew vertraut machen konnten mit den Schiff. Die Kombination aus Gross und Besan, zusammen mit einem großen Gennaker, war für uns neu, interessant und hat mich persönlich für die Ketsch eingenommen! Viele sagen ja, die Ketsch ist etwas umständlich, die Performance ist nicht besser oder sogar schlechter als bei einer Slup - ich sehe das nicht so, zum Beispiel ist das Segeln bei achterlichem Wind mit nur dem Gennaker und dem Besansegel eine echte Freude. Ob wir nun schneller oder langsamer als eine Slup sind, ist mir persönlich auch relativ egal; viel wichtiger finde ich die Stabilität des Systems, die Variabilität und, ich gebe es gerne zu, das Aussehen. Zwei Masten, und dann noch mit einem blauen Rumpf, sehen einfach toll aus :) Aber schreibe mir doch gerne in die Kommentare, wie du das siehst. Ich besitze ja kein eigenes Schiff und habe auch noch nicht so viele Vergleichsmöglichkeiten.

Nouveau moussaillon pour une semaine: Tom ! On se dirige vers les Iles Eoliennes (toutes volcaniques) avec lui. Contents d'avoir de la visite et d'offrir la possibilité à ceux qui le veulent de rejoindre le bord. On profites des îles dans la baie de Naples puis go Stromboli. Arrivés là-bas, cette île à quelque chose de spéciale. Ce volcan nous donne une leçon, on se rend compte de la puissance de la terre et à la vue des éruptions le coeur se remplit d'une sensation d'émerveillement. Tom repart depuis Stromboli et on quitte cette île plein d'extase, le moral gonflé à bloc. Le reste des îles est magnifique également, chacunes avec leurs différences. Aller d'île en île, gratuitement, au grès du vent (capricieux parfois) et une chance qu'il faut garder en tête. On se sent libre et ça fait du bien. Ne pas être guidés par un calandrier ou des impératifs. On en perd le fil des jours comme toujours. Prochaine étape la Sicile, la chaleur quasi-insoutenable et ces satanés moustiques qui aiment voyager avec nous. En d'autres mots, des nuits plus compliquées que d'autres... mais c'est l'aventure, la vrai.

After discovering a leak in one of our portholes we decided to inspect our deck fittings for leaks as well. Only to discover our grab rails corroded and brittle. One yank from Dallin and they snapped. So glad we decided to start this painfully long refit. Next week we knife out the portholes and discover more problems hidden inside. We're building a new boat and looking into various propulsion systems including the possibility of an electric drive. We meet the Energy Observer which is travelling around the world demonstrating the possibilities of hydrogen fuel. We said farewell to Steve, picked up anchor, and headed off North. Within 15 minutes, we were carefully monitoring a water spout that developed over Great Exuma. But, it never came anywhere near us. We had a great sail and moved so quickly that we made it to our second option, a further cut and anchorage called Galliot's Cut. We anchored in the elbow of Big Galliot Cay in front of a beautiful white sandy beach. We found a small coral area housing a huge lobster (too bad it's not the season) and 2 lionfish. Brown went back for the spear and caught one lionfish. We tried for the second, but he wiggled away with the help of a ledge. Brown fileted the lionfish and dinner was served. We love the remote anchorages with few boats and no evidence of resorts or restaurants. But, the ever present call of the north is in our ear and we have to move on quickly as 15 June gets closer every day. We left Big Galliot Cut and for the first time we stayed inside the bank vs. in the ocean. First, it's super shallow which makes for a beautiful turquiose color. Secondly, it's smooth sailing as you get the wind, but not the swell. The winds were SO strong that we had to double reef the main and also the jib. We were flying. We arrived in Staniel Cay and Brown did some beautiful maneuvers to position our boat to anchor just outside Thunderball Grotto. It was the first time I could stand at our anchor, which is a bit unnerving IF the wind changes direction. We happened to be on the edge of the channel so the incoming tide changed our boat position and at times, we were sitting right over our anchor. It was a beautiful anchorage with every color of blue in view. Staniel Cay is very popular for cruisers and we found the anchorage to be packed with boats. Sometimes that is a good thing as it means the island might cater to cruisers. We needed some parts for a temporary fix on our hot water heater that was leaking engine coolant and thankfully, we found what we needed and for a very cheap price. Two miracles. The island is very cute, but quiet. The airstrip makes it popular with land lubbers.
