Katinka, Merle, Femke, Annemarie, Eva, Julia en Jacqueline vormen samen het nieuwe team 'La Contrabanda". We varen in een Dufour 445. De start van de Ibiza Regatta is vanuit Marina Es Nautic in San Antoni de Portmany, de finish in Ibiza stad. In totaal doen er 18 deelnemers mee. We hebben goed getraind samen en het team loopt soepel, waardoor Jacqueline zich als schipper kan focussen op de start. We zijn het drie na langzaamste schip en ronden als eerste de bovenboei. Gaaf! Dag twee worden we, na een aanvaring, alsnog derde. En de laatste dag starten we heel scherp op volle snelheid, maar helaas zakken we die dag naar een uiteindelijk overall vijfde plaats. We varen naar Portinax, Cala San Vicente en eindigen in Ibiza Stad. Voordat we weer naar huis gaan varen we nog even naar Formentera. Het was een heerlijke week.

Welcome back friends! We are getting the hang of this YouTube thing. Thank you for joining us on our journey to wherever we end up! Lol… In this video we begin our life on the hard and end up staying longer than expected. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… We prepare our hurricane damaged sailboat for a long hurricane season ahead of us. Wicked’s bilge is working, she’s got her hurricane lines out and any exposed holes are sealed up. We scheduled our haul out date and made the 12 hour journey from Los Angeles to the USVIs to get Wicked hauled out and begin our sailboat refit. ********* This is what we know… Wicked is a 2009 43 Beneteau Oceanis that was chartered through the moorings and ownership was transferred to two different families before she was met by both hurricane Maria and Irma in 2017. She was salvaged and stripped of most of her electronics and working parts but left with a good motor and mast. There was quite a bit of damage on her starboard side where she was beached in St. John and the bottom part of the rudder was broken off. When salvaged she was hot patched, filled with foam, screws and plywood to stop her from taking on water then taken to a mooring where she would spend 3 years waiting for us to take her on. In those 3 years the damage done to the starboard side hadn’t been addressed. So slow leaks into the fiberglass festered, rotted and had to be dealt with. _______________________________________________ Our Plans We plan to do a full refit on Wicked and make her better than new! She lacks many of her systems including electric, plumbing, navigation and running rigging to start. While its a ton of work we get to start from scratch and make her ours before moving on board! Tom started sailing when he was just a kid. His first boat was an El Torro. He graduated from that to crewing on Star boats and then moved on to IOR boats. That led to multiple America's Cup campaigns including the St.FYC USA challenge. Late in his sailing career he moved to catamarans and loved the speed. Watching this video will brings back lots of memories for those of us who knew Tom and likely for many others who sailed against him..

In 1986 the StFYC fielded it's first America's Cup Challenge - USA. In this video you will hear from designers, sailors and see lots of action shots both on and off the boat. After exploring the stunning Aboriginal rock art on Stanley Island we set off to take a peek at the camping area. The available facilities are great but the discarded aluminium cans and rubbish are a little upsetting. We then plan our sailing route for the next few days. It’s tricky territory with reefs all around us and plenty of things to hit! After a few sailing days we eventually end up at Portland Roads and head to the famous cafe to sample coffee and cake, but alas, it’s closed! We are truly back to the sailor life now- loving being away from the dock and living the life we always dreamt about- bouncing between anchorages, exploring life underwater, and especially meeting other cruisers to share afternoon cocktails with!! We get to finally enjoy a little bit of free diving and snorkeling, saying hi to our underwater neighbors in some really beautiful anchorages with new friends. Next we take the party to the beach and have a great little beach BBQ and bonfire. Moving anchorages here and there, we also find out that our water maker is down, due to a corroded main pump. Richard Palmer’s JPK 1010 Jangada (GBR) has won IRC Two-Handed, racing with Jeremy Waitt. Jangada finished the race in an elapsed time of 16 days 11hrs 59 mins 46 secs, winning IRC Two Handed and placing third for IRC One. Jangada’s IRC corrected time is a new race record for Two-Handed teams, bettering their 2019 triumph. This winter we had family from Spain coming to visit us. We wanted to show him the Pacific Northwest from the sea. With the bad weather we had in December and January it wasn't easy to find a good weekend. We finally had an opening during his last weekend. Not the ideal day but good enough to go out.
