This diminutive vessel, just 14' long and with a retractable keel, was built of plywood, and represented what many would consider to be nothing more than a simple dinghy for messing about on a small lake, or other protected waters. His deep knowledge of what makes a boat seaworthy and indeed seakindly was expressed in the form of the Potter 14's hull, a fact that was to be borne out in the journey to come. To get some sense sense of the very limited dimensions and accommodations of this little ship, imagine the cabin accommodations. There is no galley and no heads. Just two 6’ 6" berths side by side, and not much else. The cabin sole to deck head height at the aft end of the cabin is slightly less than four feet, and there is sitting headroom in the bunks themselves. With a depth in the water of only a few inches and being only 5' 3" wide, she was to be dwarfed by the mountainous seas presented in a force 9 gale. #sailing #singlehanded #solosailing #seastory

TMG Yachts recently took the chance to head out for a sail in Barcelona on the incredible new Lagoon SIXTY5. With around 10 knots of breeze, we enjoyed all points of sail and tested out the electric furling code zero. It was nice to see such a substantial vessel being handled by one person for the majority of the time. With a sail area to displacement ratio well in excess of the competitors in her class, she kicked up her heels and was revelling in the conditions. A glass of Rose and the company of the Lagoon team really made this a special outing. Thanks to Lagoon Project Manager Armel Dabadie for his expert skipper skills and good humour. This is a summary of the last four years of rebuilding and then sailing this once proud Flying Dutchman sailboat. Originally built in 1973 and sailed regionally in California, I picked it up in a poor state as a project in 2018. The discovery of a rotten balsa core in the hull led to an almost complete rebuild. The outer fiberglass of the hull, the centerboard and centerboard well, many rigging parts, practice sails and trailer are all that remain of the original. Mit der "Lilla Dyrön", einer Haber 660 auf den Bodden von Ribnitz über den Saaler-, Bodstedter-, und Barther-Bodden nach Barth Wir haben das Boot in Ribnitz über die Rampe ins Wasser geslippt und konnten das Trailergespann dort auf dem Hafengelände für 14 Tage kostenlos abstellen. Zum Schluss sind wir mit dem Bus von Barth nach Ribnitz gefahren, haben das Auto mit dem Trailer zum Kran nach Barth geholt und dort gekrant. Trotz des meist kräftigen und böigen Windes konnten wir erstaunlich viel in dem recht geschützten Gewässer segeln. Die Häfen waren auch in der Ferienzeit nicht voll und sind sehr preiswert. Kayaking the San Juan Islands, an archipelago in the Pacific Northwest between Washington state and Vancouver Island of Canada. The large group, also dubbed The Floatilla, consisted of 12 adventurous paddlers. We traveled 3 days and 2 nights by sea kayak, enjoying the nature and wildlife: bald eagles, seals, starfish, crab and deer included. I hoped to film an orca pod but was not successful. We did see offshore spouts on our second night of camping but could not identify the source. I will return next year with a better plan to encounter a pod.
