It stands on its own weight without being buried in the seabed. * No Burials/Births: Due to the strict Shinto prohibition against death and blood, burial on the island is still forbidden, and pregnant women or the severely ill are traditionally expected to stay on the mainland. *

This Bavaria 1130, built in 1982, is a 37-foot solid and well-kept cruising yacht that combines classic design with practical upgrades for comfortable sailing. The hull is fiberglass and has been protected with anti-osmosis treatment and three coats of epoxy primer. She is powered by a reliable Volvo Penta MD17D 36 HP engine with saildrive, and handling is made easy with a bow thruster, furling mainsail, electric genoa furling, and an electric winch with remote control. The sail wardrobe includes two genoas, two mainsails, a spinnaker, and a storm sail, all in good condition and ready for cruising. Inside, the yacht offers a practical two-cabin layout with two heads, both fitted with electric toilets and showers, plus an additional shower on the swim platform. A fully equipped galley, hot water boiler, and generous tank capacities (400 L water and 140 L diesel) make her suitable for extended trips. The Bavaria is fitted with solar panels, an autopilot, and a chartplotter by Raymarine, supporting easy navigation and independence at sea. 🚗 Sono partito davvero dalle coste del Mediterraneo… direzione Sahara e confine con la Mauritania, a bordo della mia Fiat Panda “Terruzza”! La “Maruzza”, invece, resterà per qualche settimana nel cantiere marocchino di Saïdia. Questo significa una cosa sola: attraversare tutto il Marocco via terra, spingendomi tra montagne innevate, deserti infiniti e la costa selvaggia dell’oceano Atlantico, ben sotto la latitudine delle Canarie. Dopo essermi fermato a Fez e Meknès, perdendomi completamente nelle loro medine labirintiche, sono ripartito verso sud… ma il viaggio prende una piega inaspettata. Il tempo peggiora, la neve blocca i passi di montagna e le strade diventano gelide e difficili. Superata la tempesta, raggiungo le spettacolari Gole del Todra, tra fossili cambriani e canyon mozzafiato, fino ad arrivare in fondo alla strada che attraversa la Valle del Drâa, dove il deserto e le sue dune del Sahara sembrano inghiottire ogni cosa. Ma non la mia voglia di esplorare. We’re leaving paradise… 🌴⛵ Wayag, Raja Ampat has been nothing short of breathtaking, but reality finally catches up with us. We’re running low on food, the wind isn’t playing along, and it’s time to change plans. Instead of staying put, we decide to point the bow toward Ambon in search of wind, supplies, and a little more fun. Our final night in Wayag almost ends in disaster. A series of small mistakes snowball as we lose phone battery, daylight, and depth awareness — a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong at sea. What started as a simple outing turns into a tense scramble to get back to the boat safely. Thankfully, we make it back just in time, shaken but wiser, and begin preparing for the next leg of our journey. This episode is a reminder that adventure isn’t just turquoise water and perfect anchorages — it’s decision-making, consequences, and learning when to move on. Solid-state lithium batteries have completely changed how we power ARGO. In this episode, we upgrade our sailboat’s battery system to safer, lighter, longer-lasting lithium – and the difference is immediate. You can research sailboat power systems endlessly – but some lessons only land once you’re living with them. From day one on ARGO, we’ve battled battery and power issues. Backwards wiring drained our original setup, replacements didn’t solve the problem, and after a few days of rain we were still watching our power disappear. When it became clear we didn’t have enough capacity to comfortably head off on more remote adventures, something had to change. After plenty of procrastination, spreadsheets, squinting at the bank balance and late-night research, the promise of doubling our usable power finally tipped the scales. In this episode, we take the plunge and upgrade to solid-state Lithium batteries – and the difference is already huge. Why we chose this setup: – Safest lithium batteries available – Around 10,000 cycles (at 80–90% depth of discharge) – Victron Energy compliant – Massive weight saving – 18kg each vs 60kg each for our old AGMs Jason takes ARGO down to the Gold Coast for installation (a 7-hour ordeal), then sneaks home via a cheeky short-cut through Canaipa Passage, threading through for a much deeper water journey. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Knowing we now have the power to sail further, stay longer, and live aboard without constantly worrying about batteries makes this upgrade one of the biggest confidence boosts we’ve had yet. We left Moments in Time tucked safely in Fernandina Harbor Marina and drove back to Maryland to spend the holidays with family. When the celebrations wrapped up and we returned south, we traded Maryland’s biting low 30s chill for Florida’s welcoming warmth in the high 70s. Monica drove up from Jacksonville to spend the day with us, and together we wandered to the Amelia Island Lighthouse, taking in the sweeping views and the old oaks draped in Spanish moss like nature’s own lacework. From there, we headed to Fort Clinch, exploring its grounds and historic brick corridors before the rising temperatures—now in the 80s—pulled us toward the beach. We ended the afternoon combing the shoreline for shark’s teeth and other small treasures, the kind only the sea decides to share. As the sun slipped below the horizon, painting the sky in soft golds and purples, we made our way back to Moments in Time for the night. It was one of those rare, perfect days—a true moment in time.
