La carena con dritto verticale s’infila nell’onda riducendo il beccheggio. La V dello scafo è molto profonda e l’angolo diedro a poppa è di addirittura 24°. E’ divertente e confortevole, ma bisogna mettere in conto qualche spruzzo d’acqua in coperta se le onde sono alte e se si esagera con il gas. Sotto il lungo ponte di prua hanno dato spazio a due zone abitabili contigue che possono essere trasformate in cuccette. E’ un prodotto customizzabile in molte sue parti. Sailing offshore from Cocos Keeling to Chagos in the middle of the Indian Ocean! We leave our beloved Cocos Keeling and set sail on a 1,500 mile two week voyage to Chagos. The crew is feeling a little rough at first because the seas and winds are large and confused. After a few days everyone is back to normal and Brady's hand is healing just fine from the Barracuda attack. About a week into the trip it's time to remove Brady's stiches which was a crazy experience since the waves were moving Delos around so much. It's also the furthest from land Karin has ever been! This is our story, a story of three souls sailing around the world. It is a story about sailing, but it's also a story about the fantastic people we meet and amazing places we see. It's a story of people living their lives in an alternate way, in close connection with the beautiful people and amazing planet that we call home. Surfing down crazy waves, hitting the bottom, and navigating through unlit Islands at night! Ahoy Delos tribe! It's bitter sweet but ultimately we decide it's safer to sail back to the US then stay in the Bahamas. So we set sail on our longest passage to date with the Little Nugget onboard. It's the beginning of a 1,000 NM sail taking us from the very southern tip of the Bahamas to Annapolis, Maryland. The hurricane season is fast approaching and we're forced to leave our beloved spot in the Bahamas. After 4 months of lazy anchorage life we feel a little rusty doing a longer sail but need to get in the swing of things quickly as we find ourselves surfing down ocean swells trying to sail through a cut between two islands. Docking fails! A motorboat captain creates chaos while docking in the Marina of Poros. He loses his head in this docking disaster and dives to get his rope out of the propeller without securing his boat first. chaotic docking is nothing new in Greek marinas. The anchor to stern mooring is not ideal in 90-degree angles, and even at a straight line, the risk is huge someone will throw their anchor on top of your chain. But before all of this we are sailing into a beautiful sunset, we have a calm nightsail and arrive just before an amazing sunrise in Poros. Just another magical moment at sea :) I feel I repeat myself when I say there is nothing as stunning as a magic sunset at sea. Updated video- https://youtu.be/qRMnVMCmup4 In this video I show how to apply the gelcoat over a semi set layer of fiberglass and polyester resin ( of course its totalboat stuff ) Here I use a roller and a cheap chip brush. My preferred method is spraying the gelcoat, but this is the best method for something we're just going to sand later. Budget sind 200.000€ und wir haben uns auf die Suche gemacht nach dem passenden Alu Explorer - um die 42 Fuß, einhandtauglich und solide soll er sein. Die momentane Marktlage bedingt, dass man auf so etwas spezielles durchaus mal länger warten muss. Nach 2 Monaten kam dann die Sadko auf den Markt. Eine Pocock 42, ein Einzelstück aus Großbritannien, gebaut für einen Einhandsegler, der schon in so gut wie allem Weltmeeren damit unterwegs war. Und jetzt verkauft es der Paul - ein Zuschauer von uns. Die Aufteilung ist speziell, die Ausstattung super, die Optik außen scheint jedoch mangelhaft zu sein. Jochum ist dennoch überzeugt und wir machen uns auf den Weg nach Kiel zum Gutachten. Heute sogar mal zu dritt. Eine Seltenheit. Wir testen das Schiff auf Herz und Nieren und hatten wie immer äußerst viel Spaß dabei. Eine wirklich coole Aktion war das. Und sogar erfolgreich. In a freak accident I lost our entire downwind whisker pole overboard. And now I get to build one from scratch. The big question- how much will it cost? The cruisers code is kind of like the Good Samaritan law, except at sea! We begin this episode by helping our friends Bill & Grace on @CalicoSkiesSailing sort out a problem with their fuel. After clogging 17 filters on the trip south I decided to pitch in and help them sort out the problem. Plus, it’s always fun working someone else’s boat :) With Calico Skies in good shape we turn our eyes towards our own projects and move Delos to a friends dock in Boca Raton. We have a pretty fat project list, with building a new downwind whisker pole topping the list. The poles used on Delos are a custom design and not available off the shelf so I need to create a carbon copy of the pole I lost from scratch. After sourcing the raw materials I spend some time running from the metal warehouse to the machine shop to the fabricator. At least we’re making progress….. Many hugs and hope you liked the video! The sail from Trinidad to Grenada is supposed to be eazy-peazy right? Just a leisurely 80NM sail to another island. NOPE!!! It turns out to be one of the roughest overnight passages we’ve had this season with squalls gusting into the 40 knot range that knocked us around all night long with big seas and current against us. Sailing to Madagascar, woooo hooo!!!! We leave the amazing Chagos Archipelago and set sail for Madagascar about 1,500 miles away. Our battery charger decides to call it quits so we face a power shortage onboard. Capt. Breeyawn busts out his fix it skills and get our wind generator running, then hooks up our old tow generator to try and keep the batteries charged. It works but is still not enough and the crew is gonna have to hand steer for the entire trip because there's not enough power for the autopilot. The crew is adjusting well but feeling a little seasick the first few days. The sailing is EPIC and Delos is making good time. Since it's the last sail for half the crew there is time for lot's of reflection and we play a little game called "Thought Of The Day" where you just say whatever it is on your mind at that moment. This is our story, a story of three souls sailing around the world. It is a story about sailing, but it's also a story about the fantastic people we meet and amazing places we see. It's a story of people living their lives in an alternate way, in close connection with the beautiful people and amazing planet that we call home. Our lives just took an unexpected turn! With less than 24 hours notice, we bought an abandoned catamaran at auction...because why not completely change the course of your life on a whim?! Is our 78HP engine strong enough to tow another sailboat? This is the question we asked ourselves when our buddy boat Calico Skies stopped dead in their tracks. Unable to run their engine - with no wind, deep water and a big swell running we couldn't leave them at the mercy of the tides and currents. So we did something we’ve never done before. Towed another sail boat with Delos!! It was quite a tricky maneuver as we had to navigate though thick fog and a minefield of lobster pots! Have you ever hand steered by the stars and fixed your position with a sextant? It's day 3 and Delos is gliding along under perfect conditions. We're hit by a squall under pink silhouetted skies, but it only makes the experience more beautiful. The crew tries hand steering at night by the stars and really begins to understand why sailing can be described as meditative. The next day I break out our sextant and we begin by taking a series of sightings with one purpose- see just how close we can get to our actual GPS position using old navigation techniques that are centuries old. It's been a good year since we've paid any REAL attention to La Vagabonde. Besides polishing the stainless, scraping the bottom when she gets a little molluscy and maintaining our equipment onboard, she's usually keeps things fairly easy for us. Scuba Diving an amazing tropical atoll in the Indian Ocean! After sailing in some pretty gnarly conditions Delos and her crew find ourselves in the magical island of Cocos Keeling in the Southern Indian Ocean! We take advantage of the beautiful conditions and do some epic diving with sharks, turtles and manta rays!
